It’s been absolutely maddeningly busy at the coffee shop since Kit decided against hiring a replacement for the much needed forth employee who took off last week. Now it’s just me and my boys, Kit and Ming, and although I can see how attractive it must be for Kit to save the money by not hiring another person, it sure does make it stressful at times. But, in all honesty, I enjoy the challenge of juggling numerous things at once. The day flies by real fast when you’re a little understaffed the whole time, when there’s always something more to do [View Full Entry]

The party's ON!
Sjömusen joins in
The beer is getting to my head. Literally.

These past few weeks have brought some very good stuff, some pretty bad stuff, and some really good news with it. At the end of the first week I was tired, worn out and sick. The dubious diet of veggies and fruit that I had put myself on was no hit, although my weight did stoop as anticipated. Unfortunately, so did my health and my energy level, and I guess in the end I’d rather be a happy chubster than a svelte sicko. I spent the 3-day weekend in my room, playing new electronica from Dave while drinking tea and reading [View Full Entry]

It’s now official; I’m chubby. Apparently my metabolism isn’t what it used to be when I was 22. It turns out eating like a horse in combination with zero exercise actually does store fat in my physical depots these days, and it’s not very becoming when you’re of naturally lean structure. The plan to swim every day worked for about five days. During my first week at the coffee shop I started work at 9AM, and therefore had time to go to the pool before the workday began, a routine with only one minor drawback; for the first hour I looked [View Full Entry]

Somehow I must’ve bathed Buddha the wrong way the other week, for he did not pay much attention to my wishes of a good, healthy body. I might actually have poured water at him so inadequately that I managed to piss him off, a scenario I deem possible only because my body started deteriorating the very day after I attended his birthday party in Darling Harbor. Or is this payback for me calling him fat in my last entry? Right leg: shin splint, left leg; hurting knee. These are aches I immediately ascribed to my old, worn out shoes. Hooray! I [View Full Entry]

When new to a country, one of the many surprises of daily life is the unexpected holidays. For a working girl like myself, these translate to days off, and are therefore greeted with enthusiasm. Monday of last week I learned that we wouldn’t be working that Friday, since it was Anzac Day. I had heard "Anzac" mentioned in a variety of situations; Anzac Biscuit, Anzac Parade, Anzac Bridge etc. Now it was here, the actual holiday, and I learned all about the alliance between Australia and New Zealand, as well as the story of Gallipoli and how they planned to capture [View Full Entry]

And we like to pose like idiots.
Or to just be really cool, like here.
The obligatory "Korean-style" picture, of course

In Sweden we have an expression that could roughly be translated to the following: “You don’t have more fun than you make for yourself.” I believe this is very true, and I do my best to stay amused through every part of my day. Sometimes you need a bit of creativity and guts to create a fun situation, other times it is handed to you on a silver platter, and you need only appreciate it. So far, my effort is paying off and I find life to be a highly entertaining journey, no doubt thanks to the fact that I myself [View Full Entry]

The latest addition in my room
It's coming together

Thursday night I was suppose to meet up for coffee with Jay - the guy whom I met as I was grabbing some free postcards the other day - but I ended up going to see about a room in Redfern instead. Jay, being of a kind disposition, understood my priority, and we rescheduled to Friday night. So off I went on my bike into the Sydney night, nearly getting killed more than once by rabid and reckless car drivers, despite my lights both front and back. I miraculously managed to arrive somewhat unscathed to the address given, but it really [View Full Entry]

OK!
Höganäs in action!

I’m really happy. I mean, I’m so darn happy it’s hard to believe it’s legal, and harder yet to figure out what the contributing factors are to this state of bliss. I must be doing something right, possibly everything, but none of this makes any sense to me. No love, no money, homeless and in financial debt; who would have thought that’s the recipe for a blissful existence? Perhaps there’s some truth to the whole “less is more”-theory after all. I never could fully believe that paradox before, but now it seems to prove itself as a rather power [View Full Entry]

Humour
Pete in sepia

The dreamy life of waking up whenever I want to, and moseying about the day however I please are gone, perhaps for good. I’ve now had my first days at my two new jobs, and I’m pretty happy about both of them so far. The first one is ScentAir, a company in Bondi that specializes in scents for stores, hotels, gyms etc. This means it’s a sales job, which is both good and bad. Good because it’s dynamic and stimulating, bad because it seems I’ll only be able to work 30 hours a week at the most, which doesn’t feel enough [View Full Entry]

Fitzroy Falls
First roo!

Let me initiate this short entry by quoting myself from a conversation held with Jett a few days ago. Here’s what I said: “…but hey, what is life if not an endless string of challenges?” What on Earth would bring me to say something like that, you all wonder, and I’ll deliver the answer straight away: the family changed their mind about having a nanny. Now, this was not quite as bad as it sounded, for numerous reasons: For one, I have been talking about moving into my own place for the past week anyway, since I currently have restrictions that [View Full Entry]
