After a 16 hours long overnight bus ride we arrived in Santiago de Cuba today. Of course it looks a lot different than Varadero and I am very glad about it. We are staying at a 'casa particular' which is just renting a room at a private home or apartment. It is a very common and cheap way here to find a good accomodation. Often they also offer breakfast and other food if you pay a little more. So we just have a small room and a bathroom and that's about it, but we don't need more anyway. We haven't [View Full Entry]

So, I made it to Cuba, it was a long and uncertain trip since the German railway announced strikes for early Monday morning - which was excactly when I had to take the train to Frankfurt airport... So I decided to just take the very first train (at 5 in the morning, after about 2 hours sleep), hoping that it might not be affected yet. I was wrong... I am packing... I don't even know where to start, so many things to think of, so little space in that backpack and so many people to say goodbye too. Tomorrow morning I'm off to Cuba for 3 weeks. There, I'll meet up with Gabi who's travelling with me during the first 3 months.
