| 6th July 2007 Aimee | - From: Through the eyes of a visitor Yes! Sarah made the blog! :) Lucy and I were out walking around St. Louis when the two of your were traversing through China and we commented on how adventurous you two are. Mandy, Lucy said you should become the writer/editor of a travel guide and I agree. You've had a good start with this blog! Can't wait 'til 18 months are up! |
| 2nd July 2007 amandainshenzhen | - From: Through the eyes of a visitor The pictures are wonderful and most of the time a smile is on your face. I hope that you always remember China with a smile. I believe Amanda has more adventures in her and if you are not careful...you may be invited on her next journey. It is funny how nothing is ever what is seems and is never exactly the same each time we remember it either. You are a brave soul to pick China as your first venture out of the USA. Mrs. Ahrens |
| 29th June 2007 Cindy A | - From: I'm leaving on a jet plane Good to have her back. Sarah, love your hair cut. |

| 27th April 2007 JC | Agree! - From: You get what you pay for Chinese local tours are really shitty... u are better off planning this on your own. What is the point of going to Hainan, a beach resort and not be on the beach? |
| 24th April 2007 Anthonia | ooooooh! - From: I made him cry!!! Oh wow Ms. Ahrens! I feel so sad knowing you were hurt, but I guess all is well now. I think the teachers possess such characteristics because of their culture. They are able to reach out to the students in a way foreigners can't (I should know that!) |

The pictures are great! You mentioned the 200 mosquitos, well they would die here in Ohio! We are having a blizzard that has lasted for days. Temperature is in the teens. So, enjoy the beautiful scenery (and it does look beautiful) and hopefully the mosquitos will find something else sweet to nibble on. |

| 7th February 2007 Dad | - From: Mekong in the Morning When you take your history class back, you'll know which bus to take. |
| 6th February 2007 Linda | - From: Mekong in the Morning Wow...I don't know how you do it! I'm amazed that you stayed so calm. One experience that I can compare it to was on our honeymoon in Acapulco. The taxi driver ripped us off and so did allot of young men that tried to charge us for parking our jeep on the side of the road. That was the last time we went out on our own. After that, we did allot of group activities that the hotel sponsored. Well, I'm taking Vietnam off my places to visit ( Of course, it was never on my list :) ) |
| 5th February 2007 Mom | - From: Mekong in the Morning Look at it this way, they didn't use "the infamous wooden spoon" and things can only get better! Love ya! |

Please know that this blog, along with the pictures give your mom so much comfort - she needs to know her "little girl" is doing OK! | 18th September 2006 Mom | wearing white - From: One of them is not like the other Well, if you had worn black, you may have fit it, but white? I hope it was before labor day! There are all these characters under everyone's name except yours!... Kinda like the year book where everyone else was in glee club, soccer, math club, etc and you just showed up so there was nothing to list for activities! Nice smile though! |
| 13th September 2006 Mom | I never used the wooden spoon - From: I made him cry!!! I am here to defend myself. I never used the spoon, only held it up in the air! It did work evertime! You had better be careful. You will loose your star status with the students! |
| 11th September 2006 Aunt Diana | What is up with the air? - From: A thousand words What's in the air/sky. Looks like our good ole' California smog? |

| 8th September 2006 Kolette | You're so Funny - From: You had me at "Hello" Mandy, your stories crack me up. What a great experience! If nothing else you are getting a chance to do some creative writing. Sorry if this message is a repeat. I was trying to write earlier but accidently did somehting to make this screen disappear so maybe I accidently pushed 'send' or something... Thanks for keeping us informed of everything. Sorry I can't think of anything cute to say right now - I'm at work (and it's not nap time). Love ya Kolette |
| 8th September 2006 Mom | What is wrong with blood? - From: You had me at "Hello" I really don't see the problem with blood, after all it was cooked, it increases your red blood count and gives you energy! Remember, you wanted to go to Africa. They drink the blood straight from the cows that are alive (remember National Geographic?). Please send a picture when you get your uniform! You did tell me that all the pictures where of Chris and Sara life events. I think this will qualify and I will be sure to hang this picture out for all to admire! Remember the tall kids get the back row, so it won't be too bad! Hey, challenge them to a game of basketball! That should show them who is in charge! |
| 8th September 2006 Aunt Diana | 1st day teaching - From: You had me at "Hello" Both you and your Mom could be writing books on all your day to day episodes!!!!! Love ya |

| 30th August 2006 CIndy Ahrens - AKA - Mom | Drinking! - From: Stoplight - Red, Yellow, or Go! Now is this the kind of pictures that you send homw to mom & dad? In the future, we would much prefer a picture of you cleaning the streets or helping an older person across the street. I think that this celebrity thing may have gone to your head, missy! Let's keep ourselves under control, I don't need to be bailing you out of a Chinese jail! |
| 25th August 2006 Todd "would you know me by my first name?' Katz | Fried Duck Toungue - From: Bye-Bye Beijing Hi Amanda!!! So great to hear from you!!! Very exciting (hence all of the exclamation points) Okay so here are some rules to follow when in China: 1) Stay hydrated 2) Try a new dish once every 2 weeks. For example Fried Duck Tongue. You can usually find them at the bars (they are like a peanut substitute at our bars). Start easy and get more and more risque. Remember, you've already had the runs for 24 hours so the bugger must be out of your system or happy to be living in you now. Think of it as your G.I. (gastrointestinal) protector while you are in China. You do realize you will have the same issue when you come back to the states right? 3. Buy a new outfit once every week. What does it cost, $3 maybe? 4. Learn to cook authentic chinese. What are the seasonings they use, basic techniques, basic cooking times, etc. Ever think of having the fish soup? See rule 2. 5. Stop eating the damn carrots and people will stop staring at you. You look like a really tall and skinny umpa-lumpa and they are confused. First they don't know what the hell an umpa-lumpa is and second orange is not a normal human color. 6. Have fun and write lots! Be well! |
| 23rd August 2006 Katie | How cool - From: Bye-Bye Beijing I hope you are having lots of FUN!! I am very excited for you! Keep the messages going...can I tell some of the GVA kids about this site so they can check and see what you are up to? Roland |
