Dec. 26th 2012, Kailua-Kona One of the most amazing dives of my life. Years ago divers discovered during nightdives, that mantas feed on the plancton that is attracted by the light of their flashlights. Also the mantas are not at all scared by the divers. Over the years these nightdives have developed into one of the top attractions on the Kailua-Kona Coast. From the manta's perspective they have educated divers to bring divelights to attract plancton... I don't think they are interested in us. We just carry the lights... Just when we entered the water, the mantas were already there and in full swing. They were attracted by the lights of the snorkelers, who were in the water before us... Watch these 3m-5m big fish turning loopings below the snorkelers! Now some more videos showing you ... read more

Diving Maui - world class diving! I was diving there between Dec 19-21 2012. It was really wonderful diving. Molokini was one of the greatest places to dive there. Absolutely amazing. Look at this amazing video: Barracuda at a cleaning station this is how it looks when one of the big, bad guys shows up at a cleaning station. A large barracuda, something like 5-6 ft long getting cleaned at Molokini by some small Hawaiian cleaner wrasses. Great situation and something which is very rare. This is a short video with some sea turtles getting cleaned at a cleaning station near the Kihei Coast... Have you ever seen baby sharks? These little sharks are hiding in a cave at "Reefs End", another fantastic divesite at Molokini. They are just babies, little more than 2-3 ft long. ... read more

Dec. 18th, just before I was flying to Maui. I could not resist to visit Waimea Canyon once again. Even though the weather was worse at Lihue (rain and low clouds) I went there. And was not disappointed! Just amazing again!... read more

Dec 17th, A trip to Kee Beach again for gazing the sunset. I just went to the beach and was admiring a beautiful sunset on a rainy evening. Noone else was there, which seemed strange to me. Because this was the day when Kalalau trail was closed for more than three weeks. When I got to Haena State Park a police car was standing there and preventing anyone to go on the Kalalau trail. I was allowed to go to the beach for the sunset. Later I found out that they were searching for a man who threw off a japanese tourist down the cliff on the Kalalau trail. She was badly injured, but survived as far as I heard. The suspect was not found during the three weeks on the trail. How evil can people ... read more

I had three days of diving on Kauai, between Dec 13 and 16. Including a nightdive on the 16th. All dives took place on the south coast. The Na Pali Coast was not acessible because of high swells. I went diving with Bubbles Below, a local and great dive company.... read more

One of the most iconic trails for hiking is the Kalalau trail along the Na Pali coast from Kee beach to Kalalau beach. that would be a multiple day hike and you have to get a permit. I only did a daytrip to Hanakapiai beach and back. This stretch of land is amazing!... read more

Waimea Canyon is one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. Just like a huge valley, a crack in a mountain, a fractured and scarred valley. Just an amazing sight. Kalalau Lookout is another one of these incredibly beautiful places on Kauai. Just beautiful. I will not write too many words about it. Just look at the pictures and you will understand me.... read more

To be honest, my initial planning was different. I wanted to spend more time on the main island, explore Bali and what the island has to offer. But I had made friends on Nusa Lembongan with Evy, Purana and the other guys... And this drew me more than travelling alone on Bali... And I was so absolutely right. Not only two more nice dives but even more important meeting the guys again that I really got to like during a few days there. Nusa Lembongan gets you! Maybe also Evy, Purana and the others...;-)... read more

I had a wonderful week of holiday in Nusa Lembongan. The reason to get there was a friend I had got to know during shark diving at Fiji in 2011. Evy is on Nusa Lembongan, working as a dive instructor. So it was easy to get diving there. And with a wonderful divebuddy, someone I completely trust and a great crew. What else do you need? I spend nearly a week on Lembongan and Evy and I had also quite some nice trips above the water, driving around on Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Cenningan and Nusa Penida... The diving was wonderful. Most of the sites are on the north coast of Nusa Penida. It was wonderful diving, some drift dives in stronger currents. I enjoyed it and I got back to my friends on my way back, ... read more

Another short trip to Tulamben. I wanted to dive the USAT Liberty, one of the most recommended wreck dives of the world. And it really is. Besides this I met a great guy, Ketut Sukerdana and Kadek, one of his diveguides. And the meal at the restaurant was mybe the best I had on the island.... read more
