Around Amsterdam going Home to Australia

All good things are coming to an end. So was this terrific trip to Europe. The last few days we spent visiting family and friends. Not that many left. We made a quick trip to Wormer and Jisp not far away from Amsterdam. Jisp is a tiny but beautiful little place ringed by lots of water. It makes a fantastic place to take photos. In Wormer close to Jisp we visited friends. We had not seen them fo

Etten Leur to Amsterdam

It is always hard to say Good Bye special to Family. But it was time to say goodbye to Etten Leur and Jola and Hugo. Even the weather was crying. Showers were obstructing the view over the pretty Dutch landscape. As always we were so nicely received by the Family Weema. Just inside the door and the coffee and apple cake was served. So much to tell it filled the whole afternoon. That night the Wee

The Floriade in Venlo

We were so lucky to be in Holland to see the agriculture show that is held every ten years. It was held this time in Venlo that is about 160 kilometres away. Not really that far over the excellent freeways here. It took just over an hour to get there. We saw soon that it was very well organised. An enormous parking field for thousands of cars was placed a fair bit away from the entrance but shut

Around Etten Leur

This is the second year we are celebrating our birthdays away from Home. Nevertheless it turned out very nice. Arranging a cake and a birthday card was not as difficult as it was for Liz when it was mine but that is just being lucky when you are staying by Family. Up till now we had nice warm summer weather very warm actually and to feel cooler we visited a skie hall close to Etten Leur. Somethi

We had a beautiful dinner the night before we left with a enormous ice dessert. For the next week or so we be the guest of Jola Hugo in Etten Leur. We told them we take the warm weather with us and we did. It was only 210 kilometres to go not that long.Deciding again to take the small country roads but that became a fiasco. In Holland those small roads are not really that easy tractors bike

The first things we noticed were a pair of wooden shoes standing in our room. Was this for sale or did we had to do something with it. Yes if we did not want any cleaning done the wooden shoes stay outside the room cleaning the room you put them inside. Very clever. Today after having a good breakfast we set of to enjoy the beautifull area of Twente. Forrests fields of corn or granes a feast f

We spent one more day in Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr. We visited a foodfair in Bad Neuenahr but only mastered a piece of plum cake not feeling for any fatty food.Next day we took leave from the nice people in Ahrweiler. We had a glorious stay there. After a good breakfast we left Ahrweiler and went further north direction Holland We landed in a little place called Tubbergen. It is in Twente close

We said Good Bye to the Kolchens Family after a very nice stay at their place in Kues. We fiiled a new adress into GPR and that took us for a while along the Mosel. When we saw we were leaving the river we had a coffee and said Good Bye to a very nice area. We now went inland and were sent over small roads and through little villages where you only go 30 k.m. per hour. But there were amazing view

We are really sticking out with our French numberplate. All what you see here is German Dutch ones. Unbelievable busy with holiday makers and we must say it is like walking in Holland. Also lots of Belgiums but they sound like they come from Limburg. We went the next day again to Bernkastel just looking at the masses of people that walk around aimlessly. Carrying backpacks holding kids and h

It is such a pity to leave our nice place at the Rhine but the time keeps ticking so we can only hope the next place is just as nice. We had to take the ferry to the other side of the Rhine to visit Braubach that has this magnificent castle that is completely intact. The name of it is the Marktsburg. We were there early so we had a park for the car but not early enough to go up to the castle for

You have not been here and not do one of the boat trips on the Rhine. We decided to do both. One day on the boat and one day by car so we have the best of two worlds. The first trip by boat left at 9 o39clock but that was a bit to early so we went on the second one that left at 11 o39clock and was more our style. According to the time table we would be in Rudesheim at about three and leave

We left Furstenberg with rain but it did not take long for the weather to clear. That was good for it is a gorgeous area to drive through. Most of the way we took country roads but than time wize it became a problem and we had to change to autobahn. Our place of arrival was Boppard on the Rhine. We were there last year but it is such a nice place and very central. The place we stayed last time was

We are at the edge of Schwarzwald. A beautiful area with lots of things to see. We had a look at Titisee. We have been here before in 1996 and it is amazing how much it has change since than. More shops and more places to eat. We first looked at the lake You cannot change anything on that. There are more paddle boats on the water. It cost you 8 Euro for an hour to paddle yourself silly. It was mu

Allthough we put into the GPR no freeways it did send us all over autoways and we were in and out of Swiss in not time at all. It is a pleasure to drive over the German country roads. We arrived in our very small township of Furstenberg early afternoon. We had no lunch and were advised to go a township not far from there for there were no restaurants in Furstenberg. It has a brewery we saw. So w

On the day of leaving we had a few anxious moment. We were leaving Spain towards France. We were told by the reception of the Vichy Spa resort that the roads North were closed because massive fires at the border. It di look terrifying on TV. One of the workers there had come through anyway. So we thought we tried too. Because the alternative would be to go through Andorra which is a long way aro

Leaving Zaragoza and on to Coldes de Malavella it took us through lovely scenic roads. Part Freeway and lots of rural roads. We travelled through the start of the Pyranees. We stoped at a roadhouse for a nature call and coffee. It states very cleary at the entrance use toilet only if you are a customer. Fair enough. We had to look for a suitable roadhouse for most of them were of the main road. Th

We felt sorry to leave such a beautiful city but even good things come to an end. We had about 400 kilometres to reach our destination Zaragoza. Spain has amazing good roads some are toll roads but this one was not and she was a beauty. We went through moiuntains as well as flat areas. We saw corn grapes and olives even fields of sun flowers. Arriving early afternoon in Zaragoza was very good

To still linger on in Toledo is easy. We were absolutely stoked with this beautiful medieval walled city. Every corner is worth a picture. We had a couple of incidents there. All Ladies and we say again all Ladies wave their fans to get a bit of coolness. It is real Spanish so we thought we buy a couple. Not that expensive two Euro each. We payed the man four Euros. He wrapped them while we look

We cannot complain about the weather for the sun shines every day. It gives an enormous heat that makes it nice to visit churches that are here mostly museums as well. We took most of the second day to visit the Cathedral that houses lots ot treasures in the way of paintings from El Greco van Dyk and other famous artists. The church itself is started in the Visigothic times which is from 600
