Well, I have been awful with neglecting this travel journal so far too much has happened to sum it all up, I will have a go though! New Zealand was amazing, we hired a car called El Cheapo and drove ourselves around for 2 weeks on the South Island which was amazingly beautiful and then a week and a half on the North. We visited Queenstown where I braved the Canyon Swing which was terrifying and the snowcapped mountains and general Autumny scenery was stunning. We headed to Milford Sound where the clouds were out in force but we managed to see some very big waterfalls which is always nice.. We climbed a mountain for some beautiful views and nearly froze at the top, drove to look at the glaciers, went watching Sperm Whales and seals ... read more

The past 6 weeks has absolutely flown by. We ended up fitting in pretty much everything that we wanted to do the only issue with my time in Australia was that it was far too fast and some places felt like we hadn't spent nearly enough time in them. We did however fit an amazing amount into just 6 weeks. Briefly, we spent a few days in Melbourne then travelled up to Sydney where we settled for quite a while. Sydney was amazing, such a good city and we also met some really nice people and saw my second cousin there who gave us a very good couple of days out and some fantastic food. The next stop was Byron Bay where we spent far too much money in a short space of time by ... read more

We arrived in Australia a couple of days ago and headed straight to St Kilda which is cool, kind of like the Northern Quarter in Manchester. I'm finding a lot similar to home actually, we've been here at a really good time too because it's the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and we managed somehow to get free tickets for 2 shows last night so had a really really good free night out! We also saw some street performers earlier on which were good, made the city feel very lively considering the fact that all of the shops were closed because it was good friday! We've been attempting to make a plan for the next few weeks and it's not worked out very well. We almost had an amazing really cheap plan involving a roadtrip to Uluru ... read more

Malaysia has been a bit of a whirlwind, think that we have been to some of the very worst places, mainly transit towns such as Kuala Besut and Jerantut. Had some really bad racism as well from just about everyone, the worst being in just one afternoon in Jerantut. We went with the intention of going to Taman Negara but realised that we wouldnt really have a great deal of time to spend there so decided to go straight through to Kuala Lumpur after far too many hours in Jerantut. When asking for directions people ignored me and one girl actually put her fingers in her ears, turned away and laughed. A man on the train put his hand in my face when I asked him for some toast and continued to serve various Malay people, ... read more

It seems like ages since I last updated this because after not doing too much for a week on Phangan what with bad weather and lack of money it has been jampacked for the last few days! On Phangan we learnt to dive which was amazing, saw an octopus and a stingray and so many fish it was unbelievable. Really happy to have the skill as well, Thailand seems like a really cheap place to learn. We were all happy to leave the island though I think after a half moon party diving and feeling generally as though we were infact living there because of staying in one place for so long. We headed inland to Khao Sok national park but decided that the trekking tours were a bit out of our budget and instead we'll ... read more

After a great deal more travelling, we arrived in Samui. Weren't really huge fans to be honest it seemed very touristy with more European people than Thai wherever we went. We stayed in Lamai and because of a Buddhist holiday (or election, people kept telling us different things..) a lot of places were closed mainly the bars etc so that was a bit of a let down. Instead we spent most of our time on the beach, one good thing being the Thai massage places all along the beach, and there has yet been nothing more relaxing than a foot scrub whilst watching the sea! After leaving there (and being quite glad to) we headed to Phangan which I prefere. We're staying in a fairly quiet location but only a bus drive away from the venue ... read more

Well, so far it has been pretty action packed. Arrived safely in Bangkok and spent 3 days and 2 nights there looking at all the tourist destinations and the famous Khoa San Road. Stayed in a very nice hotel courtesy of my wonderful parents and the accomodation so far hasn't matched it! Everything is so cheap, it is amazing, seem to be buying far too much though considering that my bag is already too heavy! After the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, heading to Chaing Mai (on the most uncomfortable seat and therefore having the least sleep of my life) was lovely, the night market was amazing and seemed to go on for hours, it was also much cheaper than Bangkok. We also went trekking to the non-touristy Pai area rather than the usual Long necks ... read more
