Klang #2 Asia » Laos » West » Vientiane

Patuxai
Lao version of Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysées
Tho Vientiane is the capital of Laos, it's almost comparable to Klang by the looks of it. It is another boring city to me...didnt feel like spending a lot of time here. So, we did all the sightseeings during the day and decided to leave the next morning. But the night in Vientiane was fun. I met 2 Czechs on the bus and hung out together that night drinking on the (side of) street. There were so many weirdos in the wee hours in Vientiane. A deaf n mute dude was walking pass n decided to join our company. So there [View Full Entry]

Siesta

The moment I enter Vang Vieng, the first thought that came into my head was "why the hell did I come here?" Everyone's been telling me so many great stories bout VV and this is it?? At first sight, the town looked absolutely hideous with no greenery, just red earth with lotsa dust. Then when I walked to the river, I fell in love with this town. The scenery was so amazing I think I could stay here for a week. The highlight of the trip was tubing from upstream Nam Song back to the town. The riverbank is full with [View Full Entry]

Back to French-era Laos Asia » Laos » West » Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang is probably the nicest place I've been to so far in Laos. It has this nice ambient and I felt as tho I've been teleported back to 50s or something. And this is also the place I tasted my first Lao beer, which happens to be the finest in Asia (or was it SEA?). Everything is much cheaper here as well. We found a room for USD3 shared by two. But we almost started a fight with some Europeans coz it was filling up really quickly. We also found this night market where they serve vegan buffet for 50c [View Full Entry]

Drugs..anyone?? Asia » Laos » West » Pakbeng
After spending a night in boring Huay Xai, we travelled to Luang Prabang by SLOW boat on the Mekong river. It was a 2-day journey, so we had to spend 1 night in another boring little town Pakbeng which has nothing to offer except for the scenery and the starry sky. The boat ride is on top of the list for worst ride of the trip. It was a narrow boat about 15m long (??) and accommodated at least 50 pple!! It was insane. There were not enough seats for everyone, there were pple everywhere...sitting on plastic chairs along the aisle, [View Full Entry]

Up till now, we've only been travelling in either local buses (yeah without air-con) or dodgy air-con buses. The morning we were supposed to travel from Chiang Mai to the border of Thai-Laos, we sorta got conned into paying for the more expensive ride which departed at the convenient time of 830am (we didnt know the cheaper 2nd class one was the 6am). But it was all good. We were served drinks which initially thought was ice water and refused to take it, but it turned out to be icy cold Sprite. Then there were biscuits (made in Malaysia!!) as snacks. [View Full Entry]

Huay Xai
Overnight millionaires
We getting drunk on this tonight !!

We arrived in Chiang Mai at odd hours....yet again !! This time around, only had to walk only 1/2 of an hour before we found affordable accommodation. The price was "same same" as the one in Bangkok..100B.. but room condition was far better. We had our own bathroom and ample space for hanging out washed clothes. Yes in the room but our room doesn't stink. Learnt my lesson never to leave my belongings out of sight. The first time I removed my flip-flops to get into a bar in Ko Phangan for a drink, it was gone in like 3 mins. [View Full Entry]

A night in Bangkok.. Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok
So the song goes.. Bangkok's the dodgiest city I've ever been to. It's nice to see all these exotic and weird things around you. But I think one night here is more than enough...for me at least... We arrived in Bangkok probably at 5am. The bus dropped us off somewhere along a 6-lane highway. Not knowing where we were....we looked like lost lambs. Bloody tuk-tuk drivers tried to cheat us by making us pay for a ride to Khao San Rd, which we found out later was a mere 5 min walk away. Stubbornness paid off...we insisted on finding our own [View Full Entry]

Floating market

Mad party. Awesome crowd. Kick ass music. What more can I say. Actually....couldn't memba much of dat nite :p But if I must compare, the first time here was better. Don't know if it was affected by the recent deaths of three females, a Brit was raped and murdered in nearby Samui, and two other Swedes drowned just off Haad Rin a day before the Dec party, hence the FMP was cancelled. But I think it's more to do with the govt's crackdown on drugs. Everyone paid extra precaution as it's rumoured dat there're undercovers all over. Apparently, drug peddlers are [View Full Entry]

Full moon
In the morning
Very bad choice of clothes

The local bus ride from Khao Lak to Suratthani was cool. We passed by scenic spots and a national park Khao Sok. Would love to go there one day. Couldn't believe our luck when we actually found reasonably cheap accommodation in Chaweng, as the following day was the full moon party. I got so excited when we were walking around the bazaar, and started spending all my money on clothes n stuff...u know, things dat I dont really need. So, my budget has gone off the roof. Don't care anymore, I'm gonna spend spend spend !!!! [View Full Entry]

We've been on a liveaboard MV Nangnuan for 3 days.. paid bout 10,600B for the trip which included everything... food, dives, and most of all...great company !! Diving in the Similans and Koh Bon wasn't as great as I'd expected it to be. We didn't see any cool creatures...yep...no whale sharks, no leopard sharks (the others saw it tho), only one pitiful black tip during a night dive. But it's all good coz I've never done night diving before. The experience was out of this world...amazing !! And oh, I saw my first seasnake here as well...and I've never seen such [View Full Entry]
