The Fat Duck of Africa We are ending up our trip now and 6 months has flown by. In a way we have been a little disappointed to finish in Tanzania but in another way it has been good as we are redy to head home now. OK this is just one couples experience in Tanzania so I would say it isn't the gospel on travel in Tanzania especially as travel is so dependent on the luck of the draw of what people you meet along the way. http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Tanzania/blog-376737.html From Zambia to Tanzania by Train We had been told there was a train from just outside Lusaka Kapiri Mposhi to Dar Es Salam in Tanzania that went through a few game parks and some other nice countryside. We decided although it would take 48 hours it would be a nice way to see some more of the countryside in these parts of Africa.Trip started in true Africa style. We arrived to catch our bus at 7.50am it was due to leave at 8. http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Zambia/Lusaka/blog-372277.html From Dunes To Deltas After leaving the tallest dunes in the world in Namibia we headed through to the Etosha Pan for some game drives and then it was off to Botswana.First we were off to the Okavango Delta for some bush camping near a beautiful swimming hole to doze off to sleep to the sound of roaring lions mokoro rides they are Botswanian canoes which are pushed along by poles in a gondala style and for game walk http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Botswana/North-West/Okavango-Delta/blog-370690.html Namibia.. where we like to stand on top of big landmarks. Hi all We're just about to head out of Namibia into Botswana. For a place that we weren't going to see it has been amazing. Huge stretches of open lands full of incredibly beautiful landscapes and amazing sunsets every night. Oh and did we mention the animals ... we've seen everything from chipmunks to cheetahs to lions Just need to find some elephants and rhinos now. We've got 2 days camping in http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Namibia/Windhoek/blog-367256.html On The Road Again The Garden Route to be exact. We are loving Africa. Great people and amazing scenery. While in J'Burg we did visit the Apartheid Museum and a few historical landmarks in Soweto which was an eye opener. Leaves you a bit shell shocked by how people could have thought the whole idea of racial segregation was a good ideaWe then jetted down to Capetown where we went up Table Mountain by cable car again....Sarita tells me th http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/South-Africa/Western-Cape/False-Bay/blog-362738.html Alive and Kicking in Africa Hello all This is just a quick blog no photos I'm afraid as we have only a little time on the internet just to let you all know we are alive and kicking. Also just to let you all know we are heading off on a drive around the bottom of South Africa and then we head off to Botswana via Namibia so we won't be on the computer for a while.Africa has been fantastic so far with really friendly people a http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/South-Africa/Western-Cape/Cape-Town/blog-360942.html Australia Yes in the words of the great singersongwriter Peter Allan 'I still call Australia home' and why wouldn't you it rocks. Good work to all those friends and family smooth talking Sarita on the virtues of the great land now if someone could just provide us with stacks of cash and some good jobs for us and some of the UK family to move over to we would be there in a second. It was all a bit of a wh http://www.travelblog.org/Oceania/Australia/blog-358930.html Cheer Bro Sweet As It was great to have a little stop over between Chile and Australia even if it was a bit of a jet lagged haze.We landed in Auckland and stayed with Jack and Jana for a few nights they treated us so well...thanks guys and also got to catch up with Sukhpreet And Evelyn on one day.We decide that with only 4 days in NZ we could only spare a few days out of Auckland and hence rented a car to drive http://www.travelblog.org/Oceania/New-Zealand/North-Island/blog-358921.html Just like England but for the hot weather and volcanoes Running a bit behind with our blog entries since hitting NZ and Oz but thought I better finish off the South American leg of the travels.Chile was awesome We did struggle a bit with their take on Spanish but were relieved when we met people who could speak Spanish fluently that said oh yeah we can't understand what the people in Chile say either..... apparently they use a lot of slang which http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Chile/blog-357299.html Glaciers Winds Mountains and Penguins Last time we wrote we had just been on the glacier in El Calafate in Argentina. Well we headed up to El Chaten and did some day hikes through some amazing countryside with more glaciers lakes waterfalls and some even more amazing tasty cakes Then it was time to say goodbye to Argentina and head down to Puerto Natales in Chile and the famous Torres del Paine. Now the whole deal with Torres del P http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Chile/Magallanes/Punta-Arenas/blog-351567.html From Huge Steaks To Huge Ice..Argetina has it all So we flew from Rio to Buenos Aires and headed straight down to PLaza Doreago to be greated by a line of people dancing down the street to some amazing drumming tango dancers swanning around the plaza jazz musicians playing in the street empanadas south american pasty the size of your head and freshly squeezed orange juice being sold at the side of the street..... doesnt get much better than http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Argentina/Santa-Cruz/El-Calafate/blog-349436.html The Sun Has Come To Brazil At Last Last time we wrote we were off to find Jesus. Unfortunately he proved very aloof and hid behind some clouds all day and we basically saw his feet and shadowy outline in the clouds and that was it. Which was a pitty as Kiran was goning to reenact some of the scenes from Romeo and Juliet she gave it a go anyway.I think Jesus was hiding from all the horrible lies happening in the gift shop below.. http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Brazil/Rio-de-Janeiro/Rio-de-Janeiro/Ipanema/blog-347595.html Brazil So we have hit Brazil and have travelled from the Iguazu Falls again they looked just as awesome from the other side if not more impressive through to Curitiba and then up to Rio de Janeiro via a small island called Ihla do Mel.Brazilians do live up to the reputation of being amazingly helpful happy and beautiful people well at least the majority of the ones we have met. We have also now bee http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Brazil/Rio-de-Janeiro/Rio-de-Janeiro/Ipanema/blog-345743.html Big Steaks and Big Waterfalls... Northern Argentina Has It All So after landing in Argentina we have raced across the northern aspect to the border of Brazil to see the Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side first tomorrow we hit Brazil and then to meet Kiran in Rio.Basically since hitting Argentina we have sat around in nice central plazas sipping coffee and having tasty snacks during the day and meandering around the cities of Salta and Tucuman. At night we h http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Argentina/Misiones/Puerto-Iguaz-/blog-343391.html The Classic Honkey Tourist Just thought Id show the great look I am sporting here in this photo taken at the top of the mountain overlooking Salta. It was after doing a good 24 hours plus from Boliva on buses and having absolutely no more clean clothes apart from the ones I had in the shot.Note the classic honkey tourist positioning with arms and legs dead straight. Also take note of the amazing sock lines in this little pu http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Argentina/Salta/Salta/blog-343388.html High and dry in Boliva So we have just left Boliva and have ended up in Argentina..... and already have eaten enough steak to last me a life time it has been 2 days hereSo Boliva..... Boliva is very very high with an average height of 3750m above sea level. Unfortunately we only got to see a little of Boliva and didnt see any jungle areas and hence for us Boliva appeared to be very very dry except for the Death R http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Bolivia/La-Paz-Department/La-Paz/blog-342089.html Im going to make my own island When got to Puno and went and saw the reed islands. They are fairly amazing. The original tribe that built them did so to get away from benig picked on by other tribes in the area. Good idea you just get some blocks of reeds and form an island then put more reeds on top and build things out of reeds to use as houses and boats. They just anchor them into the lake bed to stop from floating away. Ev http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Peru/Puno/Puno/blog-340286.html Escape from Cusco So we had to try and get out of Cusco because of our ridiculously tight time schedule we have no time to waste. The problem was that the locals in the province of Puno were cheesed at the governor as he had plans to build a big hydroelectric complex and take all their water supplies away. To hit him in the money pocket they decided to block all transport from Cusco to Puno that includes all tour http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Peru/Puno/Puno/blog-340282.html Roadblock Well we are still in Cusco and looks like we may be for a few days. We were planning to head to Boliva via Lake Titicaca but it appears the locals are a bit cheesed off about what they see as unlawful overuse of local resources and therefore have set up a roadblock and arent letting any buses through. Its OK though as we have a great little hostel and have met some nice people here. If we cant http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Peru/Cusco/Cusco/Cusco/blog-338547.html The Inca Trail Is Done Well it has been a few days since finishing the Inca Trail and we are suprisingly feeling good. So much so that we have been off on a horse ride today..... well we sat on the back of some horses while they walked us through the countryside in the hills of Cusco.I think as with most people we were a little apprehensive about completing the Inca Trail as we are not the most active people in the worl http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Peru/Cusco/Inca-Trail/blog-338369.html
