The end of the road

The flights you will be glad to hear went completely without a hitch taking us all over the continent until eventually we touched gracefully down at Rio international airport last Friday. We spent one night squeezed into an 8 person dorm and as quickly as possible hopped into a minibus down the coast. A short ferry crossing and 3 hours later we were on Ilha Grande a stunning island around the siz

Hello all When we found our way to the park we were slightly disappointed when it wasnt surrounded by cages and guards surely they wouldnt allow endangered lizard beasts to roam around without some sort of protection It turns out yes they would. Although the Iguanas were not quite maneater size it was certainly odd to watch them walking along the path in front of you or be surprised when

Lazy days

Our apologies to anyone who thought we had disappeared over the last few weeks Lima was a really pleasant city with a great boardwalk along the side of the ocean with restaurants shops and entertainment a plenty. In a post Oscars impulse we ended up going to the cinema to see the Artist the following day which was great because we didnt need to worry about any dodgy Spanish dubbing a very

Machu Picchu All its cracked up to be

After the inevitable flooding delay we finally boarded the train to get to Machu Picchu. The fog and rain were so thick you could barely see the end of the cabin but with high hopes the slow ascent to the ruins began. The rain got worse and worse... the river running alongside the track appeared closer and closer to burting its banks until... THE RAIN STOPPED This can only have been an Inca bl

For a change the border crossing from Bolivia to Peru was simple no lost passport no complicated change of transport not even a problem with visas stickers or anything else border guards could deem necessary it was wonderful We spent a day on the Peruvian side of Titicaca at Puno and ate far too much candyfloss while watching the endless procession of colourful dancers pass by.
One of the reasons we had been looking forward to visiting La Paz was that it has a reputation for nice food only ever a good thing We stayed in a fantastic hostel which even served eggs for breakfast a luxury worth its weight in gold We made an effort to eat somewhere different each night and one Indian one Middle Eastern one Mexican and a ridiculous Pizza over 1 meter across later we fe

Putting things into perspective...

We had a fantastic last meal in Argentina by blowing the budget and having an enormous meat platter sirloin steak marinated chicken breasts sausage chorizo veal short rib Pork loin and a single roasted pepper between us for vitamins of course The following morning with gargantuan stomachs we hopped on our coach and made our way to the Argentina Bolivia border at La Quiaca.
Do you like Ham and Cheese Then you have to go to Argentina because it is all you are going to be eating once youve gorged on steak To illustrate when we arrived at Iguazu and visited the restauraunt built to cater for the thousands of visitors from all over the world they have every day there were 8 choices on the menu. With no exaggeration 7 of them were subtly different varieties of ham

Happy 2012 everyone It seems a long time since my last entry Our flight from Bali to Sydney went without a hitch and by lunch time we were settled into the hostel we spent an entire day picking back in July which seems a very long time ago now We ended up being put in a family room which meant we had a TV 3 extra beds useful for airing clothes and a huge fridge which it took us no time to

We said goodbye to Medan and flew to Bandung an enormous city to the South East of Jakarta. We stayed one night and the following evening got a sleeper train to Yogyakarta. Without trying to sound ungrateful but no doubt doing so the 3 days from Medan to Yogyakarta were a bit horrible big faceless cities with little historyculturefunfood and more pollution and unfriendly locals if only pas

Good morning from MalaysiaWe certainly didn39t stay in Bangkok long within a few hours of Emma39s last entry we had booked our flights and first thing the following day we flew from Bangkok to Georgetown in North Malaysia. Georgetown was apparently the first British settlement in the far East and walking around was fairly bizarre because there are so many different influences one street i

Hello Everyonetoday39s blog is written by EmmaWe arrived in Hue early morning giving us the day to explore the area. We went to the Citadel which is the centre of the old city that also contained the palace and living quarters that used to belong the the royal family our highlight was the ponds of 1000 Carp which you could feed for a few pence. After our last very long night bus we arri

Xin ChaoOne week on and we didn39t go for a dive in the end as it turned out that the reef was only shallow and you could snorkel it perfectly well. We went on a boat trip with a couple of people from our guesthouse and had a really good time. The coral was great and although we didn39t see anything big we saw some nice reef fish. It was definitely a good warm up for Malaysia and Indonesia

WellWe left Bangkok at 6.30am about a week ago and arrived at Siem Reap around dinner time the same day. It doesn39t sound to bad now but on the coach to the Cambodia border we were given a sticker and then swiftly had it taken off us because they will 39remember our faces39 at this stage alarm bells should have been ringing but it was very early in the morning...
