... read moreWriting to you again from the Strawbale Studio. As i write this i am sitting next to the Rocket Stove - Sitting on its pipe warmed bench. It is in the 20s outside, about 40 degrees in the room, and i am WARM in a sweatshirt and blanket sitting on this heated couch. The past few days i have worked on cobbing the outside of the rocket stove - playing in the mud, realizing how nice warm water feels on my hands, staring at the fire, and stacking and smooshing clay around. I am learning so many new things about natural building - It is starting to get more HANDS-ON here which is wonderful since i can learn so quickly that way. ... read morei am in Michigan now. i spent the holidays with T's family in Saginaw and got to meet up with some old friends from Alaska/Vashon and hang out at the home. Not much going on but good times relaxing and going around the area finding beautiful things and places to explore. loved the library. got a big stack of books on topics ranging from: Old Photos of Tipis, Foodlore, Sherman Alexis' book FLIGHT, Maya Angelou, and kahlil gibran. Drank some tea harvested from the land. Sorted some wood for planned felting projects and organized the pelts. Bundled up for some outdoor adventuring. made some more tea to take with me

... read moreWe went on a ferry from Lopez back to Seattle where we couch surfed at a guy i met when i came through seattle a few years ago. Then we headed to Vashon and got to stay with Adrian and Simon, my hobo friends from Alaska, and their baby girl OMI FINCH. so great to spend time with them. I worked on writing my essay to Berea and got to have great socializing at night. and Simons job doing outdoor maintenance and trail building seems like a dream. I also got to see my aunt Julie for a night and meet her husband. They took Travis and me out to dinner at the hardware store and then to a play called EL Diablo, which was great. ... read moreI left north Carolina on a bus and went to Nashville to see my friend Katie. Then I headed to Seattle and met up with Travis there. We got picked up and went to Nick and Melissa's house. All the guys in nick's bridal party were in one place for the first time and everyone enjoyed each other. We had a great time and the wedding was held out on Neah Bay on the Olympic Peninsula. It was sunny there, which is impossible for this time of the year in the NW. The weather was amazing - sun shining - and the ceremony was beautiful and close. ... read moreOur friends Sam and Shamba had moved from the valley near the camp and up into the mountains a little ways and told me i might be able to come out there and help out on the farm. So i went out there. done. And lived in an A-frame with a room attached and loved it. the Love shack it was named. And sam and shamba where in their tipi down the road and the family in between was wonderful. Travis came out there and stayed with me during one of his two week breaks from work in the fall. I started a list which i hope to make into a huge speadsheet of all the uses of plants, medicinal and culinary. its exciting to use and watch them work. Travis hurt his ankle one of
... read moreThe guys and i headed from PA to Detroit to stay with one of Joshs good friends. We went to a diner in the morning and heard about what detoit is now. We saw what Detroit is now. Its empty. Done. but things are starting low down. things are building. Then we stopped in Kalamazoo to get a beer at Bells before dropping Travis off with Liz. And we headed on. We stayed with a friend in Chicago at her community house. They were hosting a college party that night and after feeling old we found out place in the basement.
