I love every aspect of life. learning to grow from new experiences. adapting to different cultures. finding myself. finding amazing people to create memories with. jumping out of planes. skinny dipping in the ocean. exploring deserted ruins without another person within miles. reading with my legs dangled over the cliff edge. feeling free. then coming home to find a new light shed on a familiar setting. always moving forward. looking forward. but living in the now.

As begins my Roman Holiday. I decided to take a train down to Rome for a weekend during my study abroad so I could meet up with some friends that were passing through: mainly my roommate (Jesse from back home), her boyfriend (Lucan), and the boy I had been seeing at the time (Sam)... Journal entry... Was the first to arrive in Rome. The train ride was beautiful. Jesse came next, then the boys. Over the weekend, we hit all of the major sites as we winded our way through the city. Lucan was a very good planner in terms of getting to see everything and not having to plan it out ourselves. We joined a tour to see the Vatican and skipped the line by doing so. I highly recommend doing this to anyone wanting ... read more

After Arriving in Ancona, we traveled down to Florence where we started our semester abroad of study. I studied both art history and Italian... Here are the entries from my travel journal: 5/19/10 It's the second day of classes and we are already starting to pick up the language (only a little). The lessons are very interesting and well taught. Our teacher does not know any English, but she works on teaching us grammar for 2 hours in the morning and then conversational speech for 2 hours in the afternoons for 4 days a week. Within our program, we also went to a performance theater and sat in to watch a ballet practice. The dancers were all skinnier, more muscular, and older than I originally expected >_... read more

Here is the journal of my first real travel away from home unaccompanied by my family. I have decided to enter it here, the first of many, for safe keeping. I was born and raised in a small town in Michigan, having only left for camping trips, horse shows, and a few cruises with my parents. I was 20 years old when I decided I should stop dreaming about traveling and make it happen. Since I was about to enter the summer between my sophomore and junior year at Uni, I decided to plan a study abroad trip sandwiched into a backpacking excursion throughout Europe. My friend, Rob, accompanied me on this experience. I left for this trip thinking it may settle my mind from travelling for at least a little while. However, it only fueled ... read more
