I am a climber, skier, cyclist and yoga instructor and enthusiastic traveller when I can get away. My wife lets me go to Nepal and other places from time to time. I am blessed. Nothing makes me happier than boarding the next jet to some new land, meeting travellers on the way and learning local languages, eating new foods and catching up on my sleep. 😊

Travels in recent years include 20 trips to Nepal - I lead treks in the Langtang valley, Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, India, Tibet and culture tours to India, Tibet and Bhutan! I have also traveled to Thailand, Cambodia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Denmark and Norway.

At the eastern end of the Himalayas lies a once forbidden Kingdom - Bhutan! It is a country the size of Switzerland with 700,000 inhabitants who are 99% Buddhist. Hence all the temples, chortans, and dzongs (fortress monasteries). The King's father, the 4th King of Bhutan, abdicated in favor of his son about 4 years ago, and had declared Gross National Happiness was more important than GNP. It is now a democracy with the 5th King as figurehead. The Royal Family are loved and revered. Currently you can only enter by air with Druk Air, the government airline, although a private competitor has been recently approved. Tashi Airlines may be operating later this year. You must enter or leave via the airline, so if not flying in you enter by car from 3 points in India. ... read more

The Annapurna Circuit has been known as one of the top 10 treks to do in the world! After a 6 hour bus ride to Besisahar, you start trekking beside the Marsyangdi Kola (river) through small villages and farms. New roads are being built now which has changed the nature of this trek but the views are still amazing! The elevation begins around 850 meters and continues to climb as the days go by to over 3000 and 4000 meters. The crux of the trek is a crossing of Thorung La, a 5416 meter pass that takes you from the Manang valley over to the Kali Gandaki valley. We slept, or at least tried to sleep, at 4925 meters - High Camp - at the last lodge before the pass. It was cold and crowded. The ... read more

We recently spent 10 days in K country with my boys, Andrew and Peter and my wife Gloria. We had some rain on and off over the time but also enjoyed campfires, hiking and some wildlife. I think we live in a special part of the world. Our Rocky Mountains are unlike the Himalayas, Alps and other major ranges. ... read more
