In the morning light, I have to say it's looking grim. Woke up this morning needing to go shopping. Jules, it's far to say is not a morning person. She'd rather sleep. Some say she's even a Koala - only moving to eat. I don't think it's true, she also moves to get a drink and smoke. Either way, I checked the old Google maps and headed out to a nearby Woolworths to grab the supplies. 2 roads and about 2k. No worry. Well, after 20 minutes and a 25% gradient hill I made it. Knacked and supplied up I headed [View Full Entry]

Well it's only gonna be short and there ain't no photo's but my ability to land on my feet like a cat has happened again, call me Peter Bonetti, the Chelsea bastard. Me being me got us to the airport in Sydney @ 1pm for a 9pm flight as it was raining like ticker-tape at a Britney concert (i'd guess). After 3 hours of Blogging, DS and a dabble on poker I wandered up to see if we could check the bags in. "Sure" the guy from Virgin Blue said, "In fact, did you want to catch the 6.10 flight instead?". [View Full Entry]

Sydney, English thought capital of Australia. We had already stopped here on our way over to Perth but as the flights were cheaper to stop here and then head off to the Gold Coast, it seemed rude not to. It was a quick taxi (cheapest option again $40) to the hostel in Darlinghurst (2 min from the city on foot). The Strand backpackers. $27 a night, more of a workers longs stay place but nice all the same. People were friendly and no noise. Clean to which is always a plus. Hostel aside, we again walked the streets, taking in the [View Full Entry]

That's it, no more Perth. No more shops shutting @ 5pm, no more crazy drivers, no more boredom of nothing but beaches and beers (yes, it actually gets boring), no more Perth. Melbourne was the next stop. A flight over that was delayed 30min meaning we were stuck in the airport at 4.30am, meant we camped in the airport until 7am. More drama to follow as we ended up messing the hostel bookings up and eventually stayed in Formula 1 on Elizabeth St, right in front of the station. Getting to the city from the airport is no fun either. No [View Full Entry]

After a quick 2 day stopover in Perth we reloaded the car and set off up north to the Pinnacles. The car was behaving itself which was great and Sally Sat Nav gave us the route, all 4 hours of it. A literal 4 hours later and lots of driving behind the numerous "P-Platers" that drench the road we arrived. Cervantes, or, the little town next to the Pinnacle. And little town it is. Really, it's small. Coastal holiday village more like. We spotted a pub, sports field, Bottle-O and a corner shop along with the campsite we were staying at... [View Full Entry]

1500k in 3 days. Last week we headed to a cooler climate south, Margaret River, Bussleton, Bunbury, Augusta and Albany. I had massive fears about the car - something we'd bought for £500. Thankfully it was running fine and got us everywhere we needed to go. So with the iPod charged and the eskie and tent packed we set off Wednesday lunch time. Heading straight down to Bunbury we had a dip in the sea, thankfully cooling us as it was about 35 when we left Perth. On to Bussleton and then straight onto Margaret River. I love my wine, hence [View Full Entry]

The past week has been crazy. I've never been one for drinking excessively, I drink a bit but not to George Best standards, but in the last seven days it feels like i'm going for some sort of world record. Topped off by yesterdays session. Christmas day was good. It was strange to be sitting in nearly 40 degree heat but fun all the same. We had the typical Aussie day with an eskie of beer on the beach and a bit of soccer then back to the house for a feast of traditional English food cooked by Jules. After that [View Full Entry]

Being vague with the WA posting I know but it seems appropriate. Been spending the past few days looking up things to do in January. So far, pending authorisation from Jules, we'll be heading south from Perth to Margaret River, across to Esperance and then up to Kalgoorlie before heading home via Wave Rock. The car is running well (suggestive hint to prospective buyer...) so hopefully our Landlord Aaron will let us borrow a tent for the week and we'll be off and running. The only issue I think we'll have is that it's tourist season (says the man on a [View Full Entry]

First I need to mention that Jules' arm wasn't broken by the Indian Ocean. We popped back to hospital on Monday (Sir Charles Gardner - Highly recommended for anyone in need of treatment) and the CT scan showed nothing but soft tissue damage. She's now sporting a support sock and a strap on support thing. It does mean she can concentrate on her tan again however. She's also starting her own blog so if you need a differing opinion on where we go or what we do then head over here to have a look. But back to the important stuff. [View Full Entry]

Today we hit the wineries as a taster for Margaret River. Anyone who knows me knows I like wine. Any wine. I try anything. It was only a little trip. A few hours but a lot cheaper than the tours that are touted. For about $130 you can get a 9-5 day of cruising up the river with breakfast, lunch and tastings at wineries along with a trip to the chocolate factory. We spent nothing on food, about $5 worth of petrol and went round at our own pace. From what I gather the tours are full of people that are [View Full Entry]
