Finally it was time for us to explore some more of our own amazing country, Norway! As we drove north from our home in Oslo, excited about being on the road travelling again, we first had to make a few stop-overs on the way; first Børre’s family in Otta, then a pitstop at the beautiful cottage “huttan” in Rødven (Romsdalen), and Marianne’s family in Kristiansund (Nordmøre). We arrived just in time to celebrate Norway’s national day (May 17.) which is a huge thing here in Norway. After all these visits it felt great to continue our travel up north! The first day we drove from Kristiansund to Steinkjer. Further from Steinkjer we had to decide whether to continue driving the highway or the scenic coastal road “Kystriksveien”, we went for the first one, (the boring one) ... read more

For Børres birthday he got a surprisetrip to Dublin! Since this was our first trip alone after Samoa was born we dicided not to make any plans for the trip except relaxing and having fun! Arriving Dublin in the evening, the first thing we did after checking in to our great hotel (Best Western Premier Academy Plaza Hotel, € 53/night) was dinner and a beer at the next door restaurant, continuing with some more beers at a local fotballpub. The following days we did some great walks around the city and saw the beautiful St.Augustine & St.John Catholic Church, as well as enjoing coffe breaks at every other corner, drinks at the Temple Bar area and the popular bar/restaurant 'The Chuch', wich is the cool restored former St.Mary's church. And a visit to the Guinnes Storehouse ... read more

Travelling alone this time I wanted to see more of the Middle East, and Qatar is definitely one of the countries! Leaving Bahrain riot just before all hell broke loose in Manama made me really happy arriving at Doha airport. A sandy airport with a feeling of being in the middle of the desert, even though the sea and the city of Doha was just next “door”. The independent desert-state of Qatar is situated in the Southern Arabian Gulf, surrounded by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Iran. Oil discovery in 1940 transformed Qatar from being a country with very few resources to becoming one of the regions wealthiest states due to its enormous oil and natural gas revenues, and seeing the crazy beautiful architecture and buildings, especially in the New District of Doha ... read more

Travelling alone on this trip, I wanted to see more of the Middle east; this time Bahrain, a tiny country situated on an island in the Gulf that links with Saudi Arabia by a 26km causeway. After a couple of stop-overs (England and Qatar), I finally arrived at Manama,Bahrain. Sometimes I get this kickass feeling arriving countries were I don't have any expectations at all. Theese trips usually ends up really great, and Bahrain is definitely one of them! Arriving at my pre-booked hotel in the middle of the bustling old souq made my first impression really great!! I coulden't wait to explore this amzing city with all it's smells, sounds, architecture, culture and not to mention the curious multi cultural people of Bahrain! Walking around the extremely crowded souq, located in the heart of the ... read more

Enjoing the price”war” on internet, we stumbled over some crazy cheap airplane tickets going to Palanga, Lithuania. Costing us only NOK 2,- (about 30 cent usd) pr.person we just had to go for it! Palanga is one of Lithuanias main tourist destination during summer with its 18 km long sandy beach, hip party places and cafes and restaurants at every corner. But that’s summer time......... we vent there in January and only a couple of hotels and restaurants was open. Going to Lithuania in January, we expected the same temperatures and weather as in Norway, and were correct; lots of snow and around minus 10 degrees Celsius! Since the sandy beach was covered in hard packed snow it kind of made a walkway for the few tourists and the locals. And in splendid sunshine and blue ... read more

After some great travelling in the U.A.Emirates it was time to continue our adventure in Oman. Crossing the border on foot, with a baby stroller in between all the cars driving in line, was a strange but funny experience… I recon all the people staring at us thought we were lost tourists...ha ha! After a super-warm crossing in the 40 degree desert sun and a visit to the border office, we finally made the crossing from Al Ain(Emirates) and into the Omani border “city” of Buraimi. The bus to Sohar wasn't going until 5 hours later, and that’s TO LONG time to kill in this really boring desert "city", so plan 2: ‘Long distance taxi’, a common transport were people jump in and out of the car along the road.. A great way of transport and ... read more

Starting with Dubai, a crazy city in the Gulf, an amazing start for our travel in the U.A.E and Oman! Arriving Dubai airport, the biggest in the world sat the standard for Dubai. The worlds tallest building, the worlds biggest man made islands, a high tech metro system, indoor skiing in a desert.....everything is possible in this amazing city!! Over the last decade Dubai has grown into the most progressive and modern city in the middle east. Dubai has become a centre of finance, tourism and trade. Despite beeing hit hard by the financial crises, Dubai is still the place to do business in the Middle east. And for travellers like us, Dubai is a crazy cool place to ... read more

The travel bug bit us again, as always after a few months back home in Norway... This time we're going for a stop-over in Bangkok before exploring Hong Kong, The Emirates and Oman. Bangkok: It's time for Børres working days in Bangkok again, and this time the whole family comes along! We decided to stay at a quite nice hotel with swimming pool this time, since Børre is going to be working most of the time, and so the girls can enjoy some relaxing days by the pool, overlooking the always busy bangkok city. Prince Palace Hotel became our home for a week, and the view from our room on the 34 th floor was great!!! The swimming pool on the 11 th was a great place to relax and enjoy the view as well. For Marianne's 30th birthday, Børre surprised the whole family with a surprise holiday to Morocco!! Jippi!! Since this was our first travel with our baby, Samoa (4 months old) we decided to upgrade our accomadation a bit, and pre online booking turned out to be a great deal. 1/3 of the price when we booked thru expedia or norwegian. So FIVE STAR hotel for us!! Our first stop in this wonderful country was the amazing city of Marrakech. Marrakech is a city full of life: cars, donkeys, people and horses everywhere! Snowkiteing at Finse, the roof of Norway, is the perfekt way to celebrate my 37'th birthday. Marianne, got me the perfect gift knowing my passion for kiteing, mountains and outdoor adrenaline activity in general..thanks a lot Marianne!! I LOVE YOU! Early morning and extremly tired, we (Børre,Marianne & Samoa) jumped on the train, heading for Hardangervidda and Finse. It's a must to say we love train travel, so the five hours passed by pretty fast. Approaching Finse, the signature of Hardangervidda appares; majestic and dramatic mountains is rising up from the platau, the big glacier of Hardangerjøkulen is seen in the distanse, and the sudden lack of trees is making us realize we're closing up to our final destination, jippi. Jumping off the train, I got a little bit nostalgic; I have actually lived in Finse some ... read more
