Congrats on Making It! You guys are very lucky to have pulled this off. Not many people get to do it, and it really is an accomplishment. Just the short time I spent was pretty intense, so I can't imagine doing it for a year.
Good luck back home, and if I am ever in london hopefully we can go out for those beers!
Hi..! Dear Louise and David,
thanks for sharing your adventure story of Torajaland. I enjoy how you tell the story of your adventures in Sulawesi. I hope someday both of you will visit us again...Gbu
Greeting form Toraja.

Borobudur I'm glad that you had a good time in our country. But I really want to have my hand on the people who tell the story of touching the Buddha statue! Climbing the stupa and touching the statue could damage them, so please don't do it, it's silly and damaging. There is this campaign within Buddhist Indonesians: If you can not build it, don't destroy it. Indeed, Borobudur is a World's Heritage Site, please take care of it not only for Indonesians, but for the whole world's sake :)
'ave it 'hats! (is at all good in the hood) We 'perused' this blog with some amusement -particularly at the outfits. We have mixed feelings now - is Eastenders and MOTD going to be too mundane after all this excitement? Or will it be like putting on your favourite old jumper and slippers? xx
machu-pichu? - bless you! Another place which one of us would like to see! Glad you will have lots of pictures to show us. We are proud of both of you who have become completely seasoned travellers.
from the sofa-surfers of surrey.
David! I stood right where you're standing, on Indian head! Looking down into the calm waters below and seeing scores of giant rays gliding around under the surface. I think I dropped a lighter round there somewhere if you get the chance... Glad you enjoyed the Whitsundays and Fraser Island, those were two of the best things I did in Australia. And no, three weeks would certainly not have been enough!
Aaaaah how this takes me back... you were right the first time, Sydney just is a very clean and organised city. Sounds like you had a lot of fun and I'm chuffed to bits someone else finally shares my genuine love of seagulls! Looking forward to the Melbourne and Nimbin entries!
Cool! This sounds like one of the best, most soul-enriching entires from the whole of Indonesia (besides that paradisical retreat you found next to the lake where you stayed for a week)... Iwan sounds like a really great guy and I can just imagine you pair of hens during your existential discussion, losing all track of time and space as you throw yourselves headlong into it! I was, however, a little disappointed that you described Mr Bean as (quote) FUNNY (unquote). You've clearly been starved of decent comedy for too long!
This place sounds fascinating... fancy being guests of honour at a funeral?! Can you imagine the reaction if a couple of Indonesian tourists turned up at a strangers funeral in England? Great photos too, and the grave cave-graves look very eerie.
Wow! Wow, you lucky things guys! The trek sounds amazing, if a little hard going, but sounds like you did alright for a couple of lazy gits! Hope you're enjoying your last few weeks of travelling to the max - weather sucks here!
loving the girl-power At last another blog! Only one question.....How did you get the Llama into the pink, flowery t-shirt? (Oh and will David be back for the final test against India? - we may be needing him). We are just about containing our excitement at your impending return but can't promise you a dry-eyed arrival. xxx
It's very nice to read about such a positive experience in PNG. I've lived in the capital, Port Moresby, now for 5 months and am absolutely loving it. Do come back for spending more time in this wonderful country if you have time :)
intriguingly incomplete... Good to hear you are still enjoying the trip (we are quite worn out by it - must be our age!) This episode was interesting but the passing references to arguments and the need for extra tents has got us guessing - was this the result of a Louise and David special?
Feeling better I hope you're having a great time in South America. Looking at your last entry I had to laugh at Louise's comment about David riding off into the sunset-must have been a really scary moment. I had no idea the film was over! It was also quite nostalgic to see some of your pics from Easter Island and Chile. Apart from the sixteen Easter Bunnies,(sorry June and Graham for pinching your title) everything looked quite bleak, with craggy outcrops in abundance, just like Scotland. Never complain again about the British transport system, keep using the horses, much more economical and less stressful. Love you both, a happier Jimmyxxx
The mysteries of Easter Island I know how this population died out; I saw it on the telly! It was actually a very informative David Attenborough programme about Mans' destruction of the earth.
The story goes that 500 years ago the Easter Island Inhabitants were thriving. A pinical of art and culture and a strong ecomony built on the fishing industry. The industry required a lot of boats which came from the trees. Eventually the inhabitants used all of the trees and the last of the boats wore away. No boats, no food and hence a massive in fighting and ultimately there downfall. A perfect example of how we have to live with our environment and sustain it.
As for how they got those statues onto the shore; thats must be one of lifes mysteries much like the pyramids or the inca temples - it must have been good old fashioned slave labour
Just very glad to hear you are both ok after reading this. I don't think this is the sort of extreme activitiy you're supposed to sample in NZ! But thank goodness you came out (miraculously) unharmed. Enjoy S America, take care! x
Jungle Eddie Greetings! I'm loving your travel blog. My fiance and I were in Indonesia last year and spent some time in Lake Toba and Bukit Lawang as well. My fiance was volunteering with an Orangutan research group while there, and since jungle Eddie was dating a member (they've since married) we spent a lot of time with him.
Anyways, just wanted to pipe in and let you know that your blog is making me dream of our trip that we have scheduled next year!
Please keep it up!
Easter Bunnies Hi Easter Bunnies! - I always wanted to see those statues! We totally agree with Jimmy. Please don't drive anything more powerful than a space-hopper until you get home. Lovely pictures. xxx
Hey guys, I like your art work. Some of those pics would look great framed, especially love the Marlborough Coast photo. You two could sell your pics to fund more around the world galavanting, writing hilarious and insightful travel notes for Rough Guide along the way!
