For many years the idea of traveling and seeing the world had been on my mind, during day to day life however, work promotions, girlfriends and property purchases always seemed to take priority and prevent me from taking the leap into actually doing it.

When I finally found myself in a position to do it, myself and a like minded friend (James) decided that we would go for it and this time we would let nothing stop us otherwise it would probably never happen and I would spend the rest of my life wandering what it would have been like.

The decision was made but these things still take time to plan and save for and in that time a lot changed. So as it turned out I was still in a position where I had to give up a lot in order to make this journey but I felt that after all these years it was something that I had to do.

I might love it, or I might hate it but at either way I’ll go home satisfied that I’ve done it.

I am now officially recognised as a Chief by the Mitai Maori tribe. Having covered a wide range of the extreme activities that Rotorua has to offer I decided to take in some culture. I was keen to learn more about the indigenous Maori culture, I had already visited some museums and read about Maori history but I wanted to see it for real so I decided to go and spend an evening with the Mitai, one of the largest Maori families in the area, This is an organised cultural experience and I was one of a group of about 60 people there, our host Tui explained what the night had in store but said that in order to go and meet the Maori warriors we must have a chief to represent our group and ... read more

Whilst on the road between locations we stopped of at a few places to check out some of the Geo-Thermal activity, bubbling mud pools, geysers, steam rising from the ground that type of thing. We had an extreme action packed day in Rotorua. First on the list was the Luge, we had done this already in Queenstown but their are three tracks here and it it is much longer and faster. There are a couple of photo's but just to explain what the Luge is, you get a cable car up the side of a mountain, you then put on a helmet get in a ski lift to the very top of the mountain sit in a little free wheeling car that is almost flat to the ground with handle bars like a bike which ... read more

Today I flew around a canyon in a little rocket and it was pretty cool. This is one of the many ways to kill yourself on offer in Quennstown. Well like many of the activities its probably perfectly safe but Queenstown is the extreme sports capital of New Zealand and there is loads to do here. This particular activity is called Fly By Wire and it quite literally allows you to fly a little rocket on a 400m span around a canyon and it is suspended high ion the air from a cable to prevent you from flying off or crashing into anything. It's quite simple to operate, you have an accelerator and all you have to do is keep that nailed on the whole time for maximum velocity and then just steer it like ... read more

On our road trip we stopped at a University town called Dunedin. We found a hostel just out of the town centre and booked into it. The guy working there gave us the grand tour of the place. It was an old building nice solid looking place with big spacious rooms, big hallway with a wide old style staircase that doglegs round up to the first floor. He showed us the room he had for us, it was nice and big had two wash basins in it which was unusual but handy we thought because the shower rooms are separate and down the hall as usual. There was a window on the rear wall but it had been bricked up and there were another couple of doors in the room one of which had been ... read more

So I'm in New Zealand, on the South Island, which is just about as far away from home as I could possibly be. We go to see a mountain called Mount Cook which is pretty much in the middle of the South Island, one road in and out to go and see it. We get there and as you would expect it's pretty deserted we are the only two people there looking at the landscape, which is pretty spectacular like nothing I've seen before. When all of a sudden these three girls appear, they are English so I start chatting to them and I ask "where are you from?". This one girl, Kimberly says to me "do you know a place called Milton Keynes?".....what are the chances of that?!. Actually apparently the chances are not ... read more

We rented our car and once again we are on the road travelling. The landscapes here however are much more diverse than those we encountered in Australia. While on the road I tend to play my Ukulele a lot a more and it was early into this road trip that I wrote my first song which I put to self composed music. It's actually the second song I have written since being away but I haven't put the first one to music yet so this was the first fully finished piece of work. As most of you know I'm normally quite modest about my accomplishments but I have to tell you that the song is awesome, I think it's gonna be a big hit. The only problem is, it is so good that I have ... read more

We landed in Christchurch and caught a bus into the town centre (I think they call it a city centre, but that would probably create a false image for anyone who's not been there) As I observed the views from the bus window I thought that it looked very 'English', at least as far as the natural surroundings were concerned, the parks and trees etc. The architecture of the buildings is not so typically English, although it is very much a mixture of Northern European styles, at least that's how it appeared to me anyway. When walking around the town centre it was not as cold as i had expected it to be, I mean it is obviously a lot cooler than Australia, it is Autumn here after all and the Autumn season here presents ... read more

The train from Miriam Vale took me to a place called Landsborough where I was met by relatives of mine whom I have been in contact with since I arrived in Australia. We had never met or even spoken to each other before I came away so it was nice to meet with them for the first time and interesting to find out a little bit more about the family. They were kind enough to put me up for the night, we had a nice meal out with some friends of theirs in the evening, I was shown the sights the next day and in the afternoon they took me to Brisbane airport where I caught my flight back to Sydney. Back in Sydney I met up with James again at our old favourite 'the Funk ... read more

Glassford Creek is a 4000 acre property about a 1 hours drive inland from a small town called Miriam Vale on the East coast. The terminology 'farm' or 'ranch' could be used for identification purposes but technically it is a cattle station. They do cater for guests but only in small numbers at any one time as it is a working cattle station and as a guest you are helping with the day to day running of things. I had decided to go and spend some time there to experience a different way of life for a while and I can honestly say it is probably one of the best things I have ever done. I had been in contact with the owner Bill for good few weeks prior to my stay, his business there ... read more

Well we've been travelling up the East coast, have stopped off at quite a few places, been to Byron Bay for a few days been in Surfers paradise for a few days its been fun but there's not much to wright home about to be honest. Byron Bay is very chilled out full of hippies, there is a place nearby that we visited called Nimbin which is a town/ community of hippies and stoners, I think Cannabis might be legal just in that town, it is openly pushed by dealers who line the streets and there are smokers cafes and a central ministry of Marijuana or something like that it was quite an interesting place to visit but more appealing to stoners I should think, the whole place literally revolves around weed. Surfers paradise is ... read more
