Georgia

crossing the boarder between Florida and Georgia
The state Georgia is just about 30 to 40 minutes driving from Tallahassee. We went to this little town called Bainbridge, just past the border with Florida. It's a very cute place to be, with a very distinct kind of style and feel to it. The houses are absolutely beautiful, dating back to the late 19th century. I was mostly amazed by the colors and the decorations giving it a 'homely' feel. The little shops surrounding a city center square were all closed due to the fact it was Sunday, making it almost seem deserted. I think in the half hour [View Full Entry]

We've spent the last couple of days to desperately find jobs. I'm glad to announce that Dave has succeeded! After having an interview and one IQ-test he was picked to be the new employer as a key-operator of Target Copy I haven't found one yet, and I'm afraid it'll be difficult seeing that I'm not really allowed to work as a tourist here. In the mean time we've explored the surroundings of Tallahassee a bit. Mostly we try to do things when the sun goes down because during the day it's 37 degrees now...in the shadow. I can notice my mood [View Full Entry]

The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science
There is a lot of wildlife here in Florida. I guess that's my favorite part as an animal lover. The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science is nothing like a museum really. It's in the middle of forest where they take in injured or orphaned wildlife. Some of which are deer, alligators, bobcats, butterflies, foxes, wolves, and many more. It deserves a better name than 'zoo' as the animals are in their own natural environment, with trees to climb in and bushes to hide in. Dave and I both agreed that the albino squirrels were the coolest. He'd seen them [View Full Entry]

Having lunch at Cocoa Beach. From left to right: Shannon, Dave's dad (David), Dave's mom Dorothy, and I
I did something crazy yesterday. I ate alligator for lunch as an appetizer! We were out at Cocoa Beach with Dave's parents and Shannon, a friend of the family, to eat lunch and take a quick dip into the ocean. The alligator tasted just like chicken, but nobody besides Dave's mom and I liked it. I felt really proud of course! The waves in the ocean were slightly bigger than they are in Holland so we had good fun getting all wet and crazy in there. When the sun was out the sand got crazy hot, so we didn't hang out [View Full Entry]

Cuddling a ferret at the petstore
I don't know if this the correct term for it, but I found out that Florida has a monsoon season. Yesterday we planned to go to Cocoa Beach, a very popular beach about 20 minutes driving from here, but we never went because the rain kept pouring from the sky like there was no end to it. Nevertheless it stays really warm here, so all the longsleeve shirts can stay in my suitcase. Instead of going to Cocoa Beach we went to three different petstores. I guess I don't need to explain that to anyone because pretty much everyone knows I'm [View Full Entry]

The front of the T-REX cafe
It's official now: I've set foot on land that my parents have never touched. As a child I thought it was impossible, but here I am in the United States of America. Hooray! I'm staying with Dave's sister and her family in a place called Viera. It's about an hour driving from Orlando where all Disney wonders happen. It's a beautiful house in something called a 'planned' community. It's straight from the show 'Desperate Housewives' on Wisterialane. Strange enough there is hardly anyone doing things outside. Maybe that is because the weather is so hot here. When I got out the [View Full Entry]
