Hello there! It's been 6 weeks since I arrived in Ghana and 2 weeks since I left Bawku - the remote market town in the 'Upper-East Region' where Rey, Sam, Luke and I were conducting research for our dissertations. I last updated the blog in week 2, while I was in Paga- the so-called 'successful' sacred crocodile ecotourism project. After conducting over 20 key informant interviews, 10 individual interviews and 2 focus groups in the communities surrounding the crocodile ponds, I concluded that the money generated seemed to be helping very little towards reducing poverty in the area. Hello from Ghana!!! I hope everybody is well...Happy Birthday Claire, Penny and Fili!!! I hope someone bought one of them a drink on me!! I arrived in Accra on the 14th June, after an incredible plane journey sitting next to a 70 year old Ghanain lady named Elizabeth. As we were taking off she requested that I stick my head under the seat and and put her flight socks on, then held my hand for most of the journey! Hello and welcome to my travel blog! Having been inspired by my adventures in South East Asia and Australia during my Gap year, I am currently preparing to fly to Ghana and Mozambique.
