Windward Bound

We are a family of four and a friend, newbie sailors, who are heading from Grenada to St. Lucia on April 1st, 2009. This is our 2nd cruise with the same charter company we were with last March when we dismasted in the Aneganda passage.

Happy Easter to all from Wallilabou Bay, the set from Dead Mans Chest, Pirates of the Carribean. The pirates are still here. Now they are called boat boys. Five of them managed to cause great confusion when we were trying to get the boat moored. Then they layed out their jewerly on the pontoons of the boat and got somewhat pushy about us buying stuff. Jesse bought Shauna a necklace of a young boy and the other men got rather upset. We sailed here yesterday from Bequia, a 2 hour sail, where we spent 2 great days in Port Elizabeth. There was a lot going on as it was the easter regatta. We had dinner at Tommy Cantina that was delicious. Shauna was suffering from ceasar salad withdrawl. Later we were at the Fragipani for drinks ... read more

On april 4 we have a great snorkel in Dragon Bay then headed to Gouyave Bay with Shauna at the helm. Went to the street party where there were many street vendors selling a variety of fish and other traditional meals, The family from the other boat joined us and jesse and chris 12 yrs) got along great. 9:30 the next morning we headed out thru some squalls to sandy island off Carriacou our top speed was 9.9 knots, the average 7.8. At 10:30 Harald spotted whales. He wanted to call out" Killer Whales" but thought it impossible for them to be in the Caribbean Sea. But there were in fact 4-6 orcas!! Got a couple of great shots. They came within 10 feet of the boat. Truely an amazing site here in the caribbean. It ... read more

We arrived yesterday morning on time and without incident. At home our cat, Tigger, went into hiding when he realized we were going away. From previous experience we knew he would be hiding under our bed. We managed to peel him off the carpet. Imagen the combined strenght of cat claws and velcro! Althought Shauna is a seasoned taveller, she had a novel experience at YYZ. A random body search, including the security officer running her rubber gloved hands thru Shauna's hair. The sleeping comfort of the airport in Trinidad was 7 on a scale of 10. The seats were pretty comfortable but we were too excited to get much rest. A woman also woke Harald up after he slept for 2 hours saying he's slept enough and now it was her turn, as all the ... read more

We are counting the days until our flight to Grenada and the begin of our cruise. There have already been some changes in our plans. Our sailing buddy Dave will be jumping ship on April 16th as he has Greenpeace business he must tend to. We are hoping that Shauna's friend, Tyler, will be joining us in St. Lucia on the 14th to enjoy some snorkelling in the shadow of the Pitons and then head up to Marigot Bay, the end point of our cruise. Then we are off to Coconut Bay Resort for a few days of all-inclusive laying about in the sun and eating meals not cooked in a galley. Harald and I went over the maps and put together a general plan of the stops we want to make on the cruise. Then ... read more
