King Ludwig
I'm really enjoying your blogs. And I'm very glad you saw the Neuschwanstein Castle. The place is awesome. It was the early eighties when I saw it, but it left an everlasting impression. If Ludwig had not been murdered (for squandering tax money on fairytale castles) he would have finished the rooms. Little did the people back then know, he was planning ahead for the future tourism industry. And of course, you now know all this because you bin there and done that. Ausgezeichnet!!! Does Helga email you with thoughts?

strike-tradition
We've seen the strike on the news. They pointed out that the majority of the strikers were in their 20's and 30's, and therefore would not be retiring for a couple of decades. But they were very theatrical and enthusiastic as if it was going to affect them right away. They also pointed out, like you said, from 60 to 62! Even at the new advanced age, it will still be the earliest retirement age in Europe, and earlier than USA. We hope you take careful notes on the sandwich makins'. You painted a pretty delicious picture. Do they still sell the french bread in long skinny loaves wrapped only in the middle with a little piece of paper? How is your Kangoo working out? Does it have yellow headlights? Any other uniquely un-American characteristics?

Comment on your trip
I was wondering how much weight you have put on after all the food discussions. I imagine there is a Europe wide beer shortage too. Of course the news here is the warnings to travelers in Europe about possbile terrorist attacks. I have recent pictures of you; you know.

Berlin
Great update!. I'm interested in hearing about everything, so don't leave anything out. Cobblestones, lederhosen, crowds, funny signs, funny traffic, weather, etc. I'm looking forward to it all. Lorie will be back in Honolulu on Saturday. She has no internet, so when I talk to her daily on the phone, I tell her what you're doing. Are you going to try and find Hilter's Bunker? Checkpoint Charlie? The Candy-bomber's targets? Cheers, p

Dunkel beer
Just a warning: Dunkel beer is for kids. That's what I learned in my German classes here in Honolulu. I used to love the stuff when I was in Germany, but nobody told me I was losing respect with every sip. Now, Hefe Weizen - Das ist Gut!!! And it tastes better at higher altitudes, such as the top of the Zugspitze.

having fun
Lorie and I will be having fun reading about your adventures. We look forward to all the juicy details. Are the streets and alley-ways still spic-and-span in Germany? Is the beer warm? Are the Frauleins friendly? Are you going to try a wienerschnitzel mit jaegerart? Don't forget the Jaegermeister... Can't stand the stuff myself, but it's tradition, and who can argue with that.

amsterdam
Hey!!! I've been to the Ann Frank House, too. Cool. I've also read an outstanding account of her days in hiding that is in the library in Sequim. I'm sure it's still there. You check it out. Also - Michael Pollan wrote a book, "Botany of Desire" in which he details the Hemp Museum. He is clear to point out that the marijuana of today is not the stuff "we" enjoyed as kids back in the 70's. It is now potent like gunpowder, and mostly grown on short stalks inside.

Viel Spaβ
Viel spaβ (pronounced: feel shpass) literally translated means, "much fun", but is more commonly recognized as a parting comment made to someone as they journey off on a vacation or to do some other fun thing. It's like saying "have fun!!!" I wish I was going too. You two are going to see and do some cool things. I'll be looking forward to reading the blog.
