Niklaus
Did you see this town when you traveled up the valley to Zermatt. It was decked out with Father Christmas Decorations (apparently year round) honoring St Nikklaus, who will be waiting in the wings for you when you get home to do your decorating in his honor. Now you see why I can't stop Ruth from telling everybody "go to Zermatt". Yes it truly was magnificent. I fear you did not walk down the side street there to view the 800 to 1000 year old farm houses with animal quarters below as used to be done then. Happy travelling

Marvellous scenery
We have been closely following the trail up and down the mountain passes. It certainly is spectacular countryside-one shot reminded us very much of the landscape at the top of the Crown Range. Also keeping DD busy-sent her 20 pages of fax the other day with your travels!

Those poor muscles !!
You will be able to run up our" mount" when you get home. That train you saw would have been the Glacier Express which we went on.A much easier way to get up the mountains, lol. Really neat to relive our trip as we read your blogs. Looking forward to the next one !!! Take care.

What A CLIMB !!!
Oh "our" goodness, what a climb. !!! Sir Ed would be proud of you both, as are we. We could feel the muscle burn just reading about it. Thank goodness, also that you are O.K after your falls Graham, and hope Gretch's bones are hanging in there too.( Remembering that Di broke her thumb coming down a mountain climb)What a shame the fog didn't lift to allow you the full benefit of the view . Sounds like we are going to have a little "mountain goat" in January. We bet you were ALL well ready to have a shower, a feed and put your feet up. Oops, and a beer and no doubt a good nights sleep!!!

Thanks Heaps.
What, no cuckoo clock coming home, they are beautiful though, but also rather expensive ! Isn't that part of the world lovely and clean. We just love the straw sculptures, what a find. But most of all "Thanks Heaps" for delivering the big hug to Di, we sure do miss those. plenty of contact all the same.Sebastian certainly is a good cook. We always enjoy his German/Swiss goodies as well. We wont spill the beans, but how are the muscles. Really looking forward to your next blog

Ad
Funny to see that the ad that pops up on the page when viewing this entry is for 'The Cuckoo Palace' advertising Original German Cuckoo Clocks!!

The water "pool" is there for healing reasons based on the theories of Mister Kneipp, see the following link of the so called Kneipp-Kur: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Kneipp

surprising find at Mlini
Actually, the damaged hotel complex is not in Mlini. The destroyed place is called Kupari. In the 80's it used to be a retirement resort for members of the yugoslav army.when the war started in 1991 they had to leave so the burned the place down Mlini is a village where I live, and is located 2 km to the south Cheers M

What's up with the floppy-eared sheep? Altho, Murray appears to have matching ears.....perhaps he is really of German ancestry....?

Beautiful Isn't it
Wow these pics bring back memories for us. Beautiful mountains, green pastures and lovely clean towns. Don't you just love the cow bells to wake up to, and what about the church bells !. Imagine all that under snow in a few months time.Nice to see Murray chatting to his German cuzzies, a bit of a likeness there, don't you think ? Those bridge structures are something else aren't they.Makes our fancy harbour bridge look a bit tame huh !!

Where is the sound track
A pity you did not add your "wonderful" singing voices to this blog. It would have really brought it to life. I could then really imagine you two as Maria and Captain von Trapp frollicking through the Mirabell Gardens and over the bridge. Talked to a teacher at school today about Lake Bled. Her daughter had attended a family wedding at the church on the island just over a week ago. Thought it was the most beautiful place in the world. The groom had to carry the bride from the boat up to the church - a local village tradition. The bride had been dieting for a week or two for the occasion.

So there was no Aryan Rolf lurking around in the church cemetery? *lol*

You were VERY lucky to have the luxury of meat and 3 veg in Germany. When we were there for almost a week in November 05 (winter) I had my lifetime's fill of sausages and *preserved meats* and not one veg! I don't know how they don't have a higher incidence of scurvy there! ;-P

Wow....who thought you would encounter so much snow on your Summer European Adventure! Love the photo of Murry in the snow :-)

Ideas for your trip
We are driving a Euroloease arranged in NZ before we started this trip so that won't be any use to you.Not sure best rental company to deal with in Croatia.Which country do you live in? Lake Bled,Slovenia is beautiful and worth 2 nights at least. We stayed at Apartments Tina and our room was mediocre but there were rooms with small kitchens which we would go for if we visited again.Cost €35 plus local hotel tax per nite and was very cheap for area and walking distance to the lake.Dalmation coast is magnificent. We stayed just south of Dubrovnik at Apartments Brasina and had kitchenette and also small balcony.Place has a swimming pool also.Think we got it off Booking.com.Worth 2 nights at least.Plenty of accommodation along the coast heading north. We stayed on two islands adjacent to the mainland and didn't get out any further. The stops on the islands were better than staying in Split or similar.B-H was interesting after Sarajevo down to Dalmation coast with spectacular mountain scenery.Sarajevo worth a visit just to see how it is progressing after the war.Our hotel there was an odd one but cheap. It was the Royal Hotel and about 10km out of Sarajevo at Vogosca. There were better hotel prospects in the area but maybe much more expensive. For vehicle try www.auto-europe.co.uk and see what their deals are.If we can be of more help let us know.Another blog on Lake Bled coming up.We are now in Austria.

SLOVENIA/CROATIA
We are leaving on 10/3 for Zagreb and will spend 20 days driving from Zagreb to Zagreb. Hope to see Slovenia, Croatia, Italian Dolomites, and parts of Bosnia. Who did you rent a car from? Did you stay in any pensions that you can recommend. Not sure if it is worth it to travel to any of the islands in Croatia - there's so much to see. Any advice would be great...

Croatian cats
The lucky stray that found me at a cafe in Supetar was the best-fed cat in Croatia when I somehow ordered deep-fried whole sprats for lunch!

Is this photoshopped?
The photos are stunning! Am wondering if you've been doing a bit of photoshopping just to convince us it really is that magnificent? Caught up with Angela and Petra for kai last night and reminded them to check out the blog as well so you may end up with more commentators.

Nice photos! And although I haven't been to either Santorini or Dubrovnik, I say wait until you get to the Cinque Terre in Italy to make that call and you'll have another contender for the most beautiful place!! :-)

Love the photo of the bridge in Mostar - it's awesome :-) And love the description of the international sign language used at brekkie - gotta love what info you can get across when language is a barrier! My personal favourite is asking for a bill in a restaurant using one hand to "write" with an invisible pen and the other hand acting as an invisible piece of paper. Yay for getting information across to other cultures while looking like a moron! :-)

Bombed-out buildings
We were surprised at the number of bombed-out buildings still standing (sort of) in Serbia too - after all that time. Maybe they keep them there as a reminder of the futility of the war.....??
