WHAT AN AWESOME DAY. Got up in the dark to catch the sunrise over the ROCK. Then went to the Cultural Centre to get upto speed on the aboriginal stories of the rock and how it came to be, mmmmmmmmmmmmm??????? Got a bit to eat then returned to the base of the rock for Simon the Rangers talk and walk along the Mala track. This was a very good idea and extremely interesting, he talked about the Mala people and bush food and the geological version of the rock and its formation. We left Glen Helen Gorge and made our way back to Alice to stock up again before heading to Ayers Rock we only travelled half way to Mount Ebenezer to stay the night, the wind was very strong and we came across many a dust storm, met some friendly locals who would have loved to buy some beer from us but we are told not to sell it to them, they are only allowed to buy 4 beers a day. The next day we left early to beat the wind and arrived in Ayers Rock Resort for lunch, caught up on [View Full Entry]

Ellery Creek Big Hole before Dannielles Swim

Today was one of those WOW days, we headed off to Gosse Bluff (a meteor crater) and Palm Valley not having any idea what the day would bring. First adventure was a rather odd looking makeshift lookout otherwise known as a mound of dirt that we just had to drive to the top of. Why? Because it was there. Dannielle got scared and decided to walk down the otherside instead of drive. Second adventure was a wrong turn down a gas line track that went in the wrong direction but it took us 8 km to decide that it was not [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Alice Springs for Lunch, did a little exploring before stocking up on supplies and making our way to Glen Helen Resort in the West McDonnell Ranges. The range was amazing as we drove in, a big contrast to the nothing but flat we had stared at out the window for so long. And at the gate of Glen Helen was great view of Mt Sonder [View Full Entry]

We made our way from The Creek to Alice stopping of at the Devils marbles where we had a great time running all over them and finding caves and cracks that some of us could fit through and some of us couldn’t. We arrived in Tennant Creek and only intended to stay 1 night but we called the Lemos and they have decided to join us to Alice Springs and maybe Darwin so we waited another 2 night for them to catch. Tennant Creek is a colourful town and a real eye opener for the girls, but they did discover library internet and that entertained them for hours. [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Mt Isa early yesterday and settled in for a few days stay, today we joined a great bus tour of the MIne and learnt heaps about the Lead, Copper Zinc and Silver that is mined here. We were told about the discovery by Cambell Mile and the way the mine divided the town for years. How the mine works with it 32 levels underground and more than 900 km of tunnels. We saw up close and personally the gigantic Black Star open mine that will be 800 mts deep when its finished, and all the big 250 tonne [View Full Entry]
