We left Kununurra and made our way across the top of WA to Derby via an overnight stop at Halls Creek. Not much to report there, the caravan park did have a pool though. We decided to explore the other end of the Gibb River road and see Tunnel Creek. This is a creek that runs through the Wall of a gorge and in the dry you can walk right through in the dark, knee deep in water. We had a great time with our torches and took heaps of video(i am yet to master downloading video to the blog) and [View Full Entry]

Cool fun!!!!!!!

We crossed the NT/WA border this morning. Felt like we got up really early because we had to wind our clocks back 2 hours compared to the east coast. We arrived in Kununurra and spent the first day laying around the pool and getting use to the heat. We met the local hairdresser, Kylie is from Grafton and owns her own salon so us girls decided to spend the next morning in the Salon. The next afternoon we went to see the Dam wall at Lake Argyle and then jet along the 55 km long stretch of the Ord river known [View Full Entry]

We arrived at Litchfield NP and decided to stay at the Park campsite at Wangi Falls instead of the Caravan Park. We spent the entire afternoon swimming in the pool at the base of the falls. The next morning we explored, Tolmer and Florence falls before making our way to Katherine. We got up very early the next day to board a breakfast cruise along Katherine(Nitmiluk) Gorge, it was a beautiful morning and the sunrise over the gorge made for some jawdropping scenery. We had a huge buffet brekkie as we cruised the first 2 of the 13 gorges. We then [View Full Entry]

DARWIN - Our first 3 days in Darwin involved cleaning the Watergate and the Nissan now nicknamed Voyager (after Star Trek of course). They were both extremely red from the few days in Kakadu. Steve Sam and I visited the Aviation Heritage Museum to see the B52 Bomber that was given to Australia by the US, and learn a bit about the Air attacks on Darwin in WW2 The girls arrived on Sunday to the heat of the Top End so it was off to the airconditioned Shopping Centre for the afternoon before heading to Minindil Beach market and watching the [View Full Entry]

Heading out into Darwin harbour

Our visit to Kakadu began with a decision to take the Watergate on a 40km long very corregated dirt road to Gunlom(Waterfall Creek). It was well worth the drive to the campground at the edge of a waterhole with a 75m waterfall. We spent 2 days swimming in the water and relaxing before making our way to Cooinda Resort Caravan Park in the centre of Kakadu. The next morning we boarded the Yellow Water Cruise to go crocodile hunting and we were not disappointed , we saw about 20 crocs including a great performance from FatBoy when he swam across the [View Full Entry]

Last night we stopped off at the Devils Marbles again and Samuel spent the afternoon riding his bike . He can officially ride without training wheels hipeeee!!!!!! We arrived a Daly Waters to check out the famous Pub. It was a unique place with everything you could imagine hanging from the walls around the bar. There was Frank the chookman to entertain us that night. He told some great Aussie jokes and sang some funny songs with a wedge tailed eagle on his head AKA a black chook. This was another monumental moment for Samuel as he lost his tooth and [View Full Entry]

We spent the next few days relaxing and exploring Alice Springs. Samuel got a new bike and began practicing to ride it. The Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air were very interesting and Samuel found it all very weird that kids live to far from school to go there every day. Desert Park was a great place with heaps of wildlife and plants set out like it would be in the landscape of Central Australia. There was a great bird show. [View Full Entry]

We sadly left Ayers Rock resort today and headed the 300km to Kings Canyon, when we arrive we set up camp with the Lemos and had a great view of the edge of the Canyon, we also found out that the DINGO population was very strong and they love to venture into the caravan park and steal stuff, shoes, food and even laptop computers so we made sure nothing was left outside. Tonight we went to the Outback BBQ bar for some great food and fun entertainment. We spent the first day doing some short walks around the Canyon. We decided [View Full Entry]
