I have been elected to write the story of when we climbed the mountain. It was bloody hard, but we did it! It was every bit as amazing as we hoped it would be. After the fiasco that was trying to organise our own independent trip up Mount Kinabalu we decided to just head to the Park HQ which is at 1700m and try and organise it there. The Lonely Planet had filled us with hope that we could just rock up, chose a guide, buy a permit and off we go. It certainly wasn’t that easy but we managed it. Unfortunately Stu was still complaining of feeling ill, although the squits had long since passed. But we hoped that a few days of healthy mountain air and clean living would sort it out. So with ... read more

In case you hadn’t already figured, we have not sent the same blog twice; instead we have edited it with the full story and some photos. We know some of you find this blogging business a tad confusing, but really it is quite simple as long as you read the dates and location header, it follows chronologically. We thought we would write a quick blog just to let you know what we got up to on the 6th March, Stuey’s 30th. It didn’t start in the best way possible due to the lingering stomach bug issue. He really wasn’t a happy chappy, and anyone that knows Stu will know he doesn’t handle illness well at all. Much grumpiness followed. But really he was on the mend, I gave my best reassurance. We started off the day ... read more

Right then cowboys and cowgirls it has been a long time since we last spoke. How are you’ all doing? Well, considering that we have not kept you in touch with our travel progress I must first apologise. “Sorry.” Secondly I will inform you of the reason why - we have been rushed off our feet recently, meetings (Getting to know all about the wonderful animals out there in this world), deadlines (Catching international flights from tropical destination to beach paradise) and of course presentations for the boss (Well we can’t divulge that information - top secret). I am confident that all of you out there in the powerful world of business, with the ever pressured turmoil of juggling your busy career, can empathise with us. So with out further a do, or a don’t, lets ... read more

Whaaooochop! A little on the sidetrack note but since we have been away traveling I have started to read some books, a gasp from most of you cynics that just thought I was pretty to look at and no brains. I hear the jokes that the books have more pictures than words, yes very funny. I have only one question, do yuo thinc it has haelped mi speling? Moving swiftly onwards... We had booked our transport the day previous to this blog, it was a nightmare. As we have experienced terrible problems with road travel across the whole of Asia, whether it be traffic jams, bus crashes and general distaste we wanted to opt for a very sedate train journey down from Southern Thailand into Malaysia and into Kola Lumper (I do know how to spell ... read more

Congratulations Marie and Ben on the birth of your baby girl on 26th March 8lbs 4oz !! Our next plan was to head for Thailand's southern beaches and perhaps do some island hopping on the west coast, which by all accounts, and from previous experiences, we had heard was the best. Less developed, more chilled. After the trek we returned to Chang Mai for one night only. We were dusty, dirty and tired. We decided to give the 'Smile' - not! a miss and booked into the 'Green Tulip' - a lurid lime green building, but new and modern inside, with comfy beds (no bugs!). It had shared bathrooms, but they were so clean and plentiful we decided to give it a go. After 2 nights of sleeping in huts on the floor in the jungle ... read more

It's been a while but we're back online and ready to update you guys on the highs and highers that have been occurring over the past weeks. When we set out on the road to travel heaven it was always an aim of ours to go trekking in a remote part of the world. We had chosen countries that could supply this and our revamped decision to head to North Thailand was going to be the solution to our search. Yes, yes it is a very traveled road of the "Jack Johnson, head scarf fed, I have just left university with no idea of what I want to do" traveler but we had heard great things about the place and wanted to see for ourselves what the fuss was about. After our couple of searching days ... read more

I have just spent the last 1 hour writing this blog then accidently managed to loose it all...despite the autosave feature! So the second time round might be a bit rubbish and much shorter!! Hi to everyone, I have a few things to say first: Happy Birthday MARK you old git! ...hugs from me and kisses from Stu xxxxx Marie and Ben....we are thinking of you, our fingers are crossed. Sorry we haven't been in touch but we have been moving around a fair bit and haven't had time. Also the internet has been more expensive in Thailand....and often slower. Thank you to everyone who has sent us messages, its great to get them. Hope you all had a good easter! Apologies in advance to Powells...for the lack of school boy humour compared to Stu's blog, ... read more

Hi all, (Baker are you getting replies to your email cos I had some sent back?) Thanks to those of you who took Wendy out. I am writing this blog out of order again!! Stu is on the terminal next to me putting photos on, but he wants to do the Phnom Penh blog...so it will follow. Check back on old blogs in case we add any new photos. After the emotional roller coaster that was Cambodia's capital city we decided to head for the temples, still a little disappointed that we didn't get to do the cross country slow train. We had heard from travellers before us that Siem Reap was definitely worth a visit, although we would find it very touristy. We took the $5 bus (locals + tourists) which took around 6 hours. ... read more

For all you lovers out there, a blog surrounded with hearts, kisses and little bit of love. We arrived in Phnom Penh on the day before Valentines day after being dropped off by our tour company at a hotel that they suggest we stay in. No, No No we have booked a far cheaper place around the corner that was suggested to us by our Halong Bay buddies, Darren and Amanda. We took a Tuk Tuk (Not east to say with these teeth) over to our hotel, the Okay guesthouse and were pleasantly surprised with our room and accommodation. A lovely stately room with black teak furniture and amenities that we are becoming used too. As we had arrived in a fresh new country with empty bellies with thought that a quick jaunt around the town ... read more

The Mekong Delta, is it? Lovely! Sounds like a type of Toyota car but it is not. For all of you non-geographical bodies out there it is a group of islands in the estuary of the mighty mekong river containing 9 vast tributaries (nine giants - vietnamese name) or it is the place where the largest mozzie's in the world live, just waiting for some pale flesh. Dengue fever is definitely here! We left Saigon planning on making the trip from the city down to the delta for a night and then over the border and into Cambodia. As we were now verging on being professional travellers we thought that we would opt for an organised tour with A/C buses and short people to translate. A bit of a cop out I hear you cry but ... read more
