Wellborne - Chris de Montfort Wellborne

I'm 23 years old and I got bored of having not travelled much - so I decided to do that and get paid for it - hence me becoming a travel rep for Thomsons. This vanity project is here to document my experiences travelling Europe and working for Thomson's in the summer season of 2008.

Big One, Innit Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
G’day chaps, long time no see. That’s my fault really, can’t pass the blame anywhere else there. Well my fabric-thin excuses go along the lines of Jesolo Wi-Fi is broken, internet costs too much money and I’m poor, I’ve been really busy and finally, this is really quite hard to write sometimes and I’m not quite the creative genius I may have marketed myself as. Half of the above is rubbish, but please believe me, it isn’t easy to stay in touch here, the internet is still a relatively new invention to Italy and the availability of access is shockin [View Full Entry]

Getting started.. Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
So, here we go kiddies, here is your latest instalment in the seemingly never-ending Wellborne Papers. If a sense of frustration pervades through my writing, it is merely because the laptop I am writing on has truly given up on life, and isn’t even trying anymore. My computer isn’t just depressed, it is distraught, in fact, I would go as far as to say I am perhaps the only person in the world with a Nihilist Computer. Which is all very well for the computer, but damn frustrating when the power just conks out, half way through writing, or watching a [View Full Entry]

Numero 1, 2009 Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
Sunday, 24 May 2009, 09:36 Good morning chaps, I hope you are jolly well, your old mucker Chris signing in here. Right, first thing’s first, I’m not writing up the rest of my mini-European-January-Break, one it’s too long, secondly it’s too personal, and three I’m too lazy. Ok, second-thing-second, where, oh where, are my messages of “Oh my God Chris, you are amazing, it wouldn’t surprise me if you’d been there and helped Lazarus, you wonderful, wonderful man!”. Ok, perhaps even a little sycophantic (and blasphemous) for me, but d [View Full Entry]

Rome & Venice Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
Ok kiddiewinks (which I have just discovered is an approved word in Microsoft Word’s spellchecker), the blog is back after much demand. Well, ok, Greg said he was a bit bored and could do with something to read, but that’s pretty much the same thing as huge demand. Now, to whet your appetites before hurling straight into my current Italian adventure, I’m actually providing you, dear reader, with my New Year’s European Mini-Break Extravaganza. I’m writing up the notes directly from my journal, so, this is not only a testament to my travels but also to how bored [View Full Entry]

Well, hello.... Good morning chaps, for it is I, returned. I'm currently in Bristol International Airport (a cowshed currently covered in a vicious layer of frost), awaiting to board my flight. Now which particular part of the world is about to have me unleashed upon it? Which lucky place will have the joy of my company, utterly useless observations and roguish charm? Well...er...Italy again. But this time I'm flying to Rome - the boarding doesn't start for another hour and a quarter and I'm already bored - already I have eaten the quiche and sandwich given by mother dearest to las [View Full Entry]

M is for My Triumphant Return Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
M is for My Triumphant Return 25th September 2008 So. I’m in the Hotel Monaco e Quisisana, a four-star luxury hotel in Jesolo. I am sat on the floor with my back leaning against the foot of the bed, laptop atop my lap, legs outstretched across the floor, breaking through into the bathroom. Why? Well, the reason that I’m in the Monaco is that I’m flying home tomorrow evening and I have had to move out of my apartment and a perk of the job is that for your last two days you get to stay in the nicest hotel we [View Full Entry]

L is for Language Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
L is for Language Ok, I know what I said about knowing when to stop but… So, language, a subject which I have already ranted on far too much. As a result I will keep this relatively short and sweet. It is without arrogance or an ego I say that I have done very well at picking up this language malarkey, and thoroughly enjoyed myself doing so, however there have been a few moments at which I have faltered. Firstly, however I will give my top five tips for learning a language: 1. Admit, from the beginning, you are going to [View Full Entry]

J is for Jesolo Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
J is for Jesolo Hello everybody, I hope this entry finds you well. As I’m writing this up I am quite aptly listening to Riders On The Storm by the Doors. This is apt because today there was a four minute storm which happened to hit Jesolo just after I had started the six minute ride from the Ambasciatori Palace to the Marco Polo Hotel on my utterly decrepit and crippled bicycle. Now, I am sure you will be relieved to hear, I am dry and in my bedroom, taking the time to write up the letter J. Before I do [View Full Entry]

I is for Italy. It was very nearly for Insanity. I will explain why in just a moment. Other potential candidates were Inebriation, Idiocy and Inability to Choose a Starting Letter (perhaps the most tenuous of the suggestions). I do have a list of all of the letters of the alphabet with their entry title counterparts written out ready, I’m organised like that, however changes do suggest themselves to me throughout my days and I entertain the idea in my head. For example, annoyingly, I’ve just realised the letter ‘I’ shoul [View Full Entry]
