GOAL!!!!!!!! My congrats to the German squad on their 3rd place finish! But please cheer, support and celebrate the Italian team while you are in German. I know it's going to be hard, but it's the least you could do for the an Italian that's 9 times zones away.
PROST!

Some people's friends I can't believe Wiebke didn't sign on as Melon Head in her comment! She was psyched to see the little green man as well as the pic in the previous blog. In fact she showed me some other shots of that evening, hmm they didn't seem to be for public viewing. I guess that's why you said a night out with them means Trouble!
Had a braii, watched soccer, played A--hole, and Trevor drank whiskey in his fancy glasses last weekend. Twas great! xo
Ampelmänchen Thank you so much for the Ampelmännchen.....am missing them down here in the SA....as well as the snow....which Germany seems to get even in the summer!
Go Ghana!!!!!
Love, Wiebke

You Still Have it Yup, you guys still have it even though you had your good cameras taken in Tanzania, you're still making it on to the front page! Nice work.
Can't believe Melon Head made it on to another blog. Too bad about the stores being closed, she would have loved getting a melon from you two. I guess the countdown has begun (no, not for the world cup), only 5 more weeks of your trip. Wow it's been a year already?!?! See you in the Homeland. xo
beefeaters Hi! cool blog, it sounds like you guys are having a great time! Just a note on the Beefeaters... I've heard two stories about where the nicknname "Beefeater" comes from. It may be from the French name "Buffetier", which was the name for the guards in the palaces of the French kings. They were named that because one of their main jobs was to guard the King's food stores. The second reason I've heard is because in the 1800s, the tower guards would recieve a generous ration of meat from the government as compensation for their good work. So you can pick which reason you like best!
wow - front page news! S and N - you guys made it on the front page of travelblog! Congrats!!! Gald Eve showed you guys how to work the "post-box" thingy. And, Nick - careful man, with hair like that you are starting get disturbingly close to hippie.

So many places... ...I thought I was on top of your blog until I realized I was a few months behind. Wow, you guys are having such amazing adventures! Glad you're back on with cameras - you tend to capture the most amazing photos. Enjoy the rest of your trip, and I guess we'll see you back here soon enough! If you'll be back to London at end of June, let me know...Take care!
Sky train nostalgia! I spent some months in Vancouver recently. And having used the sky train there a lot of the time, I miss the "Expo Line to King George" announcements! :p I come from Liverpool, and here we have similar announcements on our trains as they have on sky train too. Nothing so elaborate as the London tourism announcements. Just a woman who sounds very much like Joanna Lumley telling us what good or nasty part of town where coming up to! :D
I hope you can get around a bit more of the north of England if you get a chance to. It's not as interesting or exciting as London maybe, but I think it might be interesting for you.... Maybe!
Enjoy the rest of your trip wherever you go. :D
What...no tatties? Here I thought you were going to say you got matching tattoos in Scotland. And they turned out to be potatoes. I'm sure your folks are relieved! Have a pint for us, eh. Cheers!
short-long Don't let anyone tell you any different, that developing short-long is very impressive (remember to cut only the top!). It really is quite breathtaking...
Best of luck for the rest of the trip!
Err...haggis = meatloaf... right. That's what they had to tell me to get me to eat it too... Love your blog guys, Cheers, Jen Carroll
Haggis
1 sheep's stomach or ox cecum[portion of large intestine], cleaned and thoroughly, scalded, turned inside out and soaked overnight in cold salted water
heart, liver and lungs of one lamb
450g/1lb beef or lamb trimmings, fat and lean
2 onions, finely chopped
225g/8oz oatmeal
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp ground dried coriander
1 tsp mace
1 tsp nutmeg
water, enough to cook the haggis
stock from lungs and trimmings
Method
1. Wash the lungs, heart and liver (if using). Place in large pan of cold water with the meat trimmings and bring to the boil. Cook for about 2 hours.
2. When cooked, strain off the stock and set the stock aside.
3. Mince the lungs, heart and trimmings.
4. Put the minced mixture in a bowl and add the finely chopped onions, oatmeal and seasoning. Mix well and add enough stock to moisten the mixture. It should have a soft crumbly consistency.
5. Spoon the mixture into the sheep's stomach, so it's just over half full. Sew up the stomach with strong thread and prick a couple of times so it doesn't explode while cooking.
6. Put the haggis in a pan of boiling water (enough to cover it) and cook for 3 hours without a lid. Keep adding more water to keep it covered.
7. To serve, cut open the haggis and spoon out the filling. Serve with neeps (mashed swede or turnip) and tatties (mashed potatoes).
Beans? I cannot believe you ate beans on toast for breakfast...how gross. Hopefully this is not a dish that you bring back to Canada with you and serve at family functions... Also, Sarah - try to persuade Nick to get a haircut; forget about adding a mustache. Now that you have fans you must look your best all the time... Luv you, Moni
The only reason I know where Slough is because the show "The Office" was set there. I actually thought it was a made-up place until I met someone from Slough!
Oh, and I now expect you to come back to Vancouver with a british accent. :P
How Cool!?! That is SO cool that you were recognized from your blog! How funny. What next, the paparazzi?! Definitely think the moustache idea for both of you is a good one! Just to protect you from the masses.
Been too lazy to write u a proper email, but will soon. Spesh was so happy to hear from you guys! xo A.
oh, my god its you. Ya, i thought that i scared you on the train. But that is ok. I would have reacted the same way. Thanks for the shout-out. Maybe i´ll run into you two again.
Nowhere Like Brugge Brugge is my favourite city - no contest. We visit this place each year (this year we go twice, including Christmas) and it is somewhere I just never tire of.
It is nice to see photos of my favourite bar - 't Brugs Beertje (pity this is closed on a Wednesday!) And I can recommend a beer called Sloeber to anyone reading this, it is one of Belgium's many golden beers, medium strength at 7.5% ABV.
In another 18 weeks I shall be walking along my beloved cobbled streets and having my beloved Sloeber in my favourite bar.
I cannot wait.
