We are passengers aboard this small fishing vessel, being oared to land by the locals.
Mole St-Nicolas: We sailed into this very picturesque village just after 2:30 pm Friday, to a gracious welcome by the villagers along the shore line. It felt as if we where Christopher Columbus ourselves!! What a feeling to arrive in a small, very secluded place were very few come visit. Some of the local fishermen came to us offering their catches of fish, lobster and conch. We exchanged a handful of Gourdes (local Haitian currency) for 10 lobsters, which calculated too around 15 dollars US. West Caicos: Today, we made the short hop to West Caicos which took about 5 hours. We made this short sail in order to line ourselves up for a proper (and shorter) departure towards Haiti. We left Providenciales around noon and arrived West Caicos at approximately 5:PM. The plan is to set sail at 11:PM tonight in order to arrive in Haiti during daylight hours. Cheers! Monday November 20th 2006 The third storm hit us as predicted on Wednesday night and all was mostly over within a 48 hours. We did get up to gale force winds for a good part of the day, and we where all happy to be safely in port being nicely tucked in at the Tide Water Marina in Portsmouth VA. Safely tucked in this small harbor, with a Naval aircraft carrier in the back ground.
It is now Wednesday November 15th We are still dogging bad weather, pushing our way down the east coast before crossing Gulf Stream, On Monday we dropped our dock lines and set sail offshore for Norfolk VA, arriving here yesterday afternoon. Our over night sail went off without a hitch, sailing here in less than 26 hours. In the night the wind picked up for a short period to the 30 + knots range with some confused seas, but later all died down and we sailing calmly into the Chesapeake Bay. Since the last update, we set sail last Wednesday Nov 8th from Manhattan to Sandy Hook NJ. Where we ended up staying two nights at the Atlantic Highlands Marina before setting sail for Atlantic City on this past Friday. Tuesday November 7th 2006 Our crew comprised of Caroline, Miro & Marcel, have arrived on time yesterday evening at 8pm. They made really great time driving in from Montréal via Burlington VT. Everybody is looking forward to a great crossing and all are in great spirit. As of 8am this morning Annie is already sadly traveling back to Montreal via Amtrak.
