Thursday, July 17th This morning we were able to take a walk with Mary Taylor, a former nurse, who is now leading tours in London on health related topics. Mary was able to take us to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital where we were able to tour their museum and learn about the history of the oldest hospital in London. St. Barts has been treating patients for NINE centuries! We also had the opportunity to visit the St. John’s Ambulance and the site where John Snow discovered the water pump that was linked to the great cholera epidemic that ravaged London. Some of our destinations included the famous platform 9 ¾ from J. K. Rowling’s ... read more

Today (I can’t believe it’s already Friday!) the Health Exercise group had the amazing opportunity to participate and run two biomechanical experiments in the University of Salford’s labs. In both labs there were about twelve infrared cameras that were analyzing movements. I was selected as the volunteer for the Fit Flops experiment (which was based on shoe size). The Fit Flops are supposed to exercise your bums, thighs and calves while walking. They do this by having the densest part at the heel of the sandal, a softer section in the middle and a medium density by your toes. The idea is to allow ... read more
