I enjoy travelling, meeting people and making new friends. I really want to enjoy life in full, I think staying in one place would probably make me sick... I guess that the symptoms of the wanderlust disease... :)

We used to organise running races for the local kids on saturdays. The last few weeks we have been organising some other games for them. I think they love playing. Some games were really fun and other games were a bit hard for them to get into. They really liked the poision ball where they had to dodge the ball that was thrown at them. We had to be very careful not to hit them on their heads. Some kids were really young about 3-4years, so we didn't want to knock them out senseless. Any way, it was really nice to see them all have a good laugh at their friends and as well as themselves. ... read more

It's been great to be back in Kenya. It's a bit difficult to cope with the slow pace of things after spending a busy few weeks in Chennai. The change of pace is good for me, but I think Africans are too laid back for my style of things. I really loved seeing the kids again. I really missed them when I was in India. Last Saturday, I met some of the kids. I sat by the side of the road and have a little "chat" with them in little Swahili that I have learnt so far. I wish I had learnt more, sometimes they ask questions, but I don't understand them at all. When they see my hairy legs, they always ask questions about that. Some kids are very cheeky and they pull them to ... read more

Here is what Koyembedu market looks like. You can buy fruit, vegetables and flowers in these markets. It gets so busy early in the morning, there won't be much room to walk around. I have been to this place so many times and it is always busy with people...... read more

The other day, I went to a bank to deal with some issues. Man, those guys really piss me off. Anyway, I had to wait for a while to meet up with the manager, so I thought I might go walk-about the streets. I really hate to sit on my backside and wait for someone to turn up (instead I love to sit on my backside and watch the world rush by :) ). I sat by the curb and watched the people who were rushing off to their work, vendors yelling by "Tomatoes", "old paper". I can't believe how busy life is here in chennai. I don't remember it was like this about 10 years ago. Any way, here are some interesting pics that I took while I was observing the people... ... read more

Have you ever wondered the rubbish that we throw out every day, where it ends up? well, in Velachery rubbish dump. It used to be a swampy area , but now it looks terrible with rubbish everywhere. It can be quite depressing. I think we are going to pay for all these bad things that we do to our environment. For our mistakes our children would suffer. The whole thing reminded me of a song "Where do the children play?" I guess in this case, away from the rubbish dump, I suppose. ... read more

Finally I took a train to visit my folks in Salem. As usual I don't seem to be able to handle them for more than 24 hours. I stayed with them for a night and the next evening, I wanted to get away from there. It's not like I hate my parents or anything like that. I just feel I can't really relate to them that well these days. Any way, I decided to take a bus to Kodai and camp there for a night or so. I had been to Kodai many times, but I have never climbed up the Perumal Malai peak. I figured that would be a good place for me to camp. The climb was quite easy compared to some of the other treks I have done. It took me about 3 ... read more

I arrived in Kamapala on the new year. The city was very busy with lots and lots of people walking around. They were so many shops on the streets selling clothes, toys, shoes and various things. It didn't take very long for me to find a place to stay. In general people seem to be lot more friendly than in Nairobi. I never had the guts to walk out on the street in Kenya whether it was in Nairobi or in Kisumu after it was dark. Here I was in Kampala, I wasn't afraid at all. I was very impressed by the locals behaviour as well, they treated me really well. There were heaps of Chinese selling things. I guess they are pumping in all their products to Africa in exchange of minerals and other natural ... read more

After hearing a lot about the refugee camps in Kakuma, I thought that was one of the better place to visit than go to the usual tourist place. I find it really hard to be a tourist in anywhere when you know the locals are going through some rough times. I find it strange that whether it was Jaffna or Jammu, whereever there is a conflict, the people there seem to be very nice. That's pretty odd when you think about the &^%* that they had gone through. Any way, I packed my bags, tent, guidebooks and stuff and got on a bus to Kitale. Once I got there, I found a bus that was about to leave for Kakuma "very soon". The words "very soon", "immediately" and "as soon as possible" all have a different ... read more

I think I am pretty spoiled with good food all the time and never really appreciated the food that is available everywhere in Kenya. It seems ugali is the Kenyan national food with almost everyone likes to eat. Ugali is just a bit like the raggi balls in Bangalore, India. Except the Ugali is made with maize flour. It really has no taste by itself, it can be pretty blah when you compare it with most Indian food. But having said that if anyone (non Indian, of course!) ate idli by itself without the sambar, I reckon he would hate it... any way, ugali generally served with meat soup or sukuma wiki (collards). It's ok I guess, but it really puts me to sleep. I should say my favourite food is githeri. They put the maize ... read more
