Untitled Lyn C “Here the whistle blowing, All Aboard for Californiay on the Atcheson, Topeka and the Santa Fe“. Sang that over and over. On my way to Santa Fe, NM. Know I’m showing my age! I arrived in Santa Fe after a six hour drive from Deming, I enjoyed the drive which was mainly on Interstate 25. I had reserved a spot in Trailer Inn RV Resort, an older RV park with lots of trees (eeek) but they sent a guide with me and he very expertly backed me into a spot. What a difference from the past week’s peace and quiet -- I’m on a historic Route 66 and I can see a Harley Davidson dealership out of my bedroom window! Still it’s convenient and the city bus that will take me right ... read more

SILVER CITY, NM Took a little side trip to Silver City, which is just 50 miles north of here. There are signs that Mimbres culture were in this area long ago and were mining copper and turquoise for centuries before they, like a lot of the indigenous native people, disappeared. The Apache Indians were in the area and mining copper when the Spaniards came along. Silver City is a very interesting little place, named of course because they found silver and started mining it in1870. Unlike a lot of these silver rush/gold rush towns however, the town’s founders decided Silver City would be built to last and that it would not meet the fate of many mining towns which often burnt to the ground over night. The tents and shacks that initially housed the miners ... read more

I parked the motor home and spent four great days with Bev in her new digs. Left Austin in brilliant sunshine on Thursday morning, temperature about 75 degrees; pulled into Fort Stockton 45 degrees, I had to put a sweat-shirt on for the first time since March!! Friday morning was grey and dismal but I was New Mexico bound. I really love Texas, it is so diverse (in every way). I entered through the Orange, Texas border where the landscape is absolutely flat - and travelling on Interstate 10 it stays that way for more than 300 miles. In Austin which is basically in the middle of the state, the west side is almost mountainous while the east side is very flat. Some fantastic view of the city and surrounding lakes can be enjoyed from ... read more

2007 Trek Lyn C I left Abita Springs, LA on May 5th on my first leg of the 2007 Trek. After an amazing 15 miles I was parked behind Debbie and Bobby's house in preparation for a joint birthday party for my two youngest grandkids. Kid's birthday parties aren't what they used to be, just check out the water slide that the party goers enjoyed. Early morning on the 6th I set out for Texas, stayed over one night in Beaumont on my way to Houston to have some maintenance, warranty work and additional equipment installed on the motor home. Pulled into Stephen F. Austin State Park late Friday. Wal and I came here often, there are lots of deer, the occassional racoon and plenty of bird-watching opportunities. It's quite close to Bellville so I ... read more
