Ready or not I am leaving Australia. As I’ve found with most places, there are things to love, things that are hard to adjust to, and things I don’t like. I have had great fun while I’ve been here as well as hard times. I am going to miss Drew a lot. He has made my trip to Australia a memorable and happy one. I hope he comes to visit soon. It is the first week of summer here and I ask myself now why I had to schedule to leave so early. I am satisfied with my travels around Australia given the time and money I had available. I have seen most of the eastern coast destination spots as well as Melbourne and Tasmania. I don’t know when I’ll be back in Australia but, next ... read more

Tasmania is beautiful. I am extremely glad that I made the trip down before I leave Australia, most travelers and locals never do. Tasmania is an island state of Australia. It boasts the cleanest water and air in the entire world. (Mom, I really do think you could drink tap water for once.) I flew into Hobart, the capital city, Thursday, November 13. I took this trip by myself, but it never really felt like I was alone. Through a networking group online I met Claire, a local to Hobart and stayed with her the three days I spent there. She introduced me to some of her friends and we watched a movie, got pizza and went out for some drinks. Claire came with me to the Salamanca markets that happen every Saturday. We had good ... read more

Modern transportation is a marvel. A mere hour in the sky and I arrived in Melbourne, Australia. It was a weekend trip from Thursday, October 30 to Monday, November 3. I had been looking forward to visiting Melbourne since I first flew to Australia. Since Melbourne is in the southern state of Victoria, I waited through winter so that the weather would be more inviting for my visit. The Spring racing carnival is an exciting time for many people. The biggest event is the Melbourne Cup, taking place November 1-4th. Ben and Ziva, friends from Sydney (xchange) came along and we went to the Flemington Racecourse on Saturday with a group of Australians we met. The races are all about fun, fashion, and drinking, and so that’s what we did. After being explained some horse betting ... read more

Tuesday, September 30 Day 11- Walked on the beach in Hervey Bay. Found real cuddle bones on the beach. (I used to buy them for my cockatiels). Then had a great swim in the pool at Koalas. Again, another hot and sunny day. We had an evening meeting to brief us for Fraser Island. We met our groups that we would be riding with and shopped for groceries that we would use the next three days on the island. Wednesday, October 1 Day 12- FRASER ISLAND! Get ready for some 4x4! We took a ferry from Hervey Bay to Fraser Island at 10:30AM that took just under an hour. The sandy tracks on Fraser island were very rough, bumpy, and EXCITING. Noone knew what to expect or what was ahead so we enjoyed getting bumbed around ... read more

Sunday, September 28 Day 9- Left Byron Bay at 7:30AM via Greyhound and got to Surfers Paradise by 9AM. Surfers Paradise is known as the Miami equivalent of Australia. As soon as we got to the beach I jumped in on the 10 o'clock surf lesson. Learned to surf for 2 hours and had lots of fun. Ziva didn't want to join, she took some pictures from the beach. After that workout, I had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. Afterwards, it was back to the beach for another 2 hours before we caught the 5:30PM greyhound to Brisbane. Monday, September 29 Day 10- Australian animals all day long! What could be better than the Australia Zoo. Home of the crocodile hunter. Ziva and I got to the Zoo in Beerwah at 9:15AM. We watched the otters ... read more

Thursday, September 25 Day 6- Ted (tour guide) never came home Wednesday night and no one knew where he was. He was left on the roadside fixing the bus, guaranteeing that it would work as soon as he got the part in. Marko, who had been living at Ted’s place for 4 months went to go find Ted and bring him back. They both returned around 3pm and we headed straight out to Bingara. The bus never got fixed. It ended up being another belt that was the problem. We spent the night at a pub in Bingara. Friday, September 26 Day 7- Woke up at 7am to go horseback riding. It was a hot and sunny morning and we had a perfect river ride where I got to swim with my horse. I had a ... read more

*I know there is lots to read. But, I've come back with 973 pictures on my camera. So, you'll have plenty of pictures as well. Monday, September 22 Day 3- Woke at 6:30am to shower from a trickling drip of water. I was well aware that I was not in for a luxury lifestyle. Country living. Our outback tour group only had 6 people. Marko from Finland, Merium from Mexico, Frank from Germany, Lawrence from London, Ziva and I. We jumped in the back of Ted's truck after loading the dogs in their cage and headed out on our 'wildlife trek'. We were quick to learn that we were taking part in Ted's favorite thing of all time, pig hunting. As soon as a wild pig was spotted in the hills the GreatDane Shepard mix hunting ... read more

Spring Break 2008 begins! Friday September 19 was Conception Day at Macquarie Uni. Celebrates Uni Life and gives everyone an excuse to party and drink. Hot and Sunny outside. Had some good fun on the slide and blow up obstacle course. Then baked in the sun while sitting on the grass listening to the semi-aweful band. Saturday September 20 Day 1 of OZ Adventure Ziva and I left at 8:30am to catch the train. We arrived in Katoomba at 12:10pm. The Blue Mountains Australia. We lugged our bags to the YHA to check in and drop our gear. Was a 10 minute walk from the train station. After lightening our load we set off for a 15 minute walk to bushwalking trails and Scenic World where we road the worlds steepest railway and a Scenic Skyway. ... read more

Wine. Vin. Vino! The Hunter Valley Wine trip. A day of drinking, basically yeh. It is a two and a half hour drive north to Hunter Valley from Sydney. THe Macquarie exchange group on campus arrange a bus for 58 of us to go to 3 wineries and bluetounge brewery. Friday, Sept 5 it rained all day. Our bus driver got lost going in circles around the vinyard maze and eventually took down a barbed fence turning around. We all laughed and yelled for him to stop, but I don't think he cared, and then we got scared a bit of going down a muddy slope. Thank goodness we did not. A group of wallabies (mini kangaroos) were in a field chilling with the cows. That was cool. No pictures though because the bus windows had ... read more

August 24th 2008

It's been a month already and it is nearing the end of August. I've focused a bit of time getting in a good start at school. Macquarie University is not a bad place, although I must consider I am really only on campus Wednesday and Thursday. My internship at Fuse Music group commenced this past week. 10 hours a week seems like nothing at all however, it does take up my entire Monday and Tuesdays. I get on the train and head into the city to Surrey Hills, which takes about an hour from where I live in Marsfield. Surrey Hills has a great vibe to the area. There are design everything wholesalers, design school, boutiques, pub restaurants, coffee cafes, and discount designer shops in the area. Its a great walk about area and if had ... read more
