Well I’m sitting at my office, counting down the last fifteen minutes until I can technically leave, so this seems like as good a time as any. Anyways, hello there! I know it’s been a little over two weeks since I last posted, and a reasonable amount has happened since then, so I guess I’ll work my way back through the whole bit. Sadly, or happily depending on one’s point of view (mine) I am actually becoming too busy to keep up with the pace of things. Frankly that’s very nice in its own bizarre way. Let’s see, last time I posted about my (mis)adventures, it was from the series of wanderings our tour sent us on throughout all of Belgium, or at least the half with interesting things in it (read: not the French part). ... read more

Oh balls. It's been a while again hasn't it? Well in between working on homework, working on legal work at my oppressive law firm downtown, and being run ragged across the countryside I'll admit there hasn't been nearly enough time to do all that I've seen justice. Oh, and if there's one thing I can say for being busy, is that there has been a lot to see. This week I wandered into Amsterdam, den Haag, and a quiet little town that may be only interesting to a handful in the world today, but hopefully I'll be in such fine form I can write about that tomorrow. For today, let's chat the last two weeks. Let’s see, when last we left our hapless intern (me), Ghent, Leuven, and Antwerp were on the horizon so let’s start ... read more

Well I suspect this is the last quiet period I've got in front of me for a very long time, so I guess that means it's time for an update! I'm fairly certain that apathy's going to keep me from actually finishing this while I'm being lazy in Germany, so for location's sake let's pretend I'm posting this from Belgium. Why am I back in Germany you ask? Well I can officially say I've resolved my long standing visa situation with the Belgian government. And there was much rejoicing. Was it entirely satisfactory? Well no, the visa covers a very truncated period of time, and I'd sort of hoped to dick around in Europe on the Belgian government's permission slip for a little bit longer than May. Still, things like that have never stopped me before! ... read more

For starters, yup, I'm safe, and mostly settled into my new home on the outskirts of Brussels, in Belgium. It's nice, but I'm fairly certain that once a new semester starts, it's probably for the best if all wacky hijinks from the last have been recorded; or at least the legal fees connected to said hijinks have been paid. With that in mind, and mostly because my brain is like coral (memories don't vanish, just new ones build on them) I think it's high time I updated for Istanbul! Let me explain, well no, there is too much. Let me sum up: Here are six snapshot memories from Istanbul that made the trip, well, fucking awesome. This is just a part of it, and to spare you a college thesis that's what goes here. Walking into ... read more

Oh hello Bratislava

Well this marks my last official night in Germany, and naturally I'm spending it sitting in a hostel, ever so slightly lost in thought. When I know exactly what this has all meant, it might end up here, but you'll have to forgive me if I place an emphasis on maybe concluding my ramblings on the past month or so. since writing about Istanbul would take a small thesis worth or writing, let's chat Bratislava. Right, so after Budapest I moved on to Bratislava using a Hungarian bus line, which was actually really nice. Not only did they help me get a transfer when the bus I was on cancelled, but they actually had a movie playing. In this case it was children of men, so maybe it wasn't the happiest of rides, and especially landing ... read more

You'd think a wanderer in Vienna could think of something better to do in Vienna on a Wednesday night than write a blog, but you'd be wrong. Anyways, hello there! I'm sitting in my hostel, waiting for laundry to finish, and just generally taking it easy for tonight. It turns out that travelling can actually wear a guy down after two weeks. If it's not the constant walking on crappy shoes, then the nightly benders are guaranteed to slow one down eventually. So that's meant my return to Vienna has been a quiet one, filled with all the things I should've done a week ago. I've a lot of ground to cover, so let's get started! I'd decided a while back, mainly because I'm a stubborn cuss, that I wanted to stick to my original travel ... read more

Seriously what does that actually mean? Does anybody even know the lyrics to that song? Eh. A problem for another time. Anyways, hello there! It's been quite a while since I updated this blog, though I think that had more to do with life in western Suburbistan being just a might too peaceful than anything else (not just laziness, I swear). Right now I'm in Dresden, trying to recover from yet another rather poor decision (the planning kind, not the good kind), and also waiting on a bowl of tortellini smothered in butter to finish cooking. The hostel's nice, but they make up for their low price by nickel and diming just about every conceivable extra service. It also marks my last night in Germany for quite some time. Weird. Dresden's pretty decent too, and ... read more

Well this is it, my last official night in 10b Kleine Wende, Kleinmachnow. Unofficially due to visa problems and otherwise I'll be back before too long, but that doesn't mean the era hasn't ended. This means that this is essentially my last blog post from my German semester. There's a lot I didn't get to, I suppose there was another entry's worth of material just on the Zauberflöte, which I got to see at the Deutsch Oper courtesy of my program, or just a lot more about Berlin, but I'll have to settle for just having those as memories, and you all can settle for my final thoughts on the matter. Here's a few things I'd change, or would really like to cherish. WARNING: this entry promises to be insufferably sincere, I'm struggling through nausea ... read more

Oh hello there, it's rainy, and miserable, and I've got two finals in a day, so naturally I thought I'd perk myself up and talk about, well, the country I'm actually living in. Normally these blogs focus on my travels and the stupid crap and hardships that come with any such journeys, but don't mistake me, life's interesting back in humble Kleinmachnow as well. With only one week to go I guess it's time for me to sort of take a look back on a lot of what made life here good, bizarre, and well, what it was. Over the next few days I'll try and post a vignette a day about life here. A Night at the (Cracked.com) Opera Most of those who know me/get tangentially annoyed by what I post I know on ... read more

Ugh. What? It's Sunday? Bugger. So, I was initially planning on writing a brief little update about the shocking number of dick jokes in The Barber of Seville, and generally what a classy night at the opera can be, but finals, and more intriguingly London came up. So that's postponed til post finals. Right, so, London. I'm going to pop off, get a nice mug of Glühwein (take redwine, fairy dust and cinnamon, and a few minutes in a pot), possibly a pillow to scream in, and then I'll take advantage of this blog to bury the most costly five second mistake I have ever made. Ok, we're back, and I'm slightly more relaxed, let's gather round and hear the story of Thanksgiving. So way back in the day a group of buckle-shoed ... read more
