VictorHK - Victor Hugo Kawakami

Victor Hugo Kawakami Born on April 17th, 1982 in Sao Paulo Brazil, my parents and I migrated to the United States in 1989 and that's where we've lived since.
I grew up speaking Portuguese but also studied Spanish all throughout high school and along the way eventually taught myself some basic Italian.
There are so many wonderful places in this world that I've never seen or enjoyed and since I'm not tied down at the moment I plan on enjoying as many of these places as possible!

Day 8. Napoli!!!!

 Europe » Italy » Campania » Naples
The ride to Naples was pretty easy. I went cheap and took a regional train which was pretty slow but since I wasn’t in a hurry it didn’t really matter. Once off the train I took the circumvesuviana south towards Sorrento to the Via Liberta stop which only took about 10 minutes. I got off the subway and headed down Via Liberta. On the way to the Hostel Fabric I saw a group of people who were on the opposite side of the street and headed in the same direction. They were all wearing backpacks and looked very American. The funny [View Full Entry]

Day 7. Soriano Nel Cimino

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Viterbo
It rained all day today! It was cold, windy, and dark. I stayed in and played some board games with Genevieve and Eric. Genevieve is Julia’s daughter, from Great Britain, and Eric is half Swedish, half Mexican. I had some mozzarella and salami that I had bought a few days before so I made a few sandwiches’, which were terrific, then took a nap and then eventually woke up to go see the Good Friday celebration the locals were commemorating in the town center. They did their thing with the Jesus and the music and the KKK look-a-like clothing. It was [View Full Entry]

Today was a pretty good day. The night before I ran into Mark and Oksana and after a few glasses of wine we decided that the three of us would go driving around to look for some historic sites. We left the resort at 9am and went to Viterbo first. Viterbo has an interesting history including a story about how the town itself took part in the selection of a Pope in the 12th or 13th century. Around that time period several years had passed and the cardinals had not voted on who was to become the next Pope. Viterbo has [View Full Entry]

Day 5. Rome....part 2.

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Another wonderful day in Rome. I got off to a slow start today. I woke up at 10pm, had breakfast and arrived in Rome a little before 12pm. I've been fighting some severe jet lag for the past few days and my brain is all whacked out. I don't remember if I mentioned this but in order to get to Rome I have to take a bus from Soriano to Orte, which takes about 30-40min, then hop on a train from Orte to Termini Station in Rome; which takes about 1 hour. I've come to discover that the public means of [View Full Entry]

Piove Oggi! Quanto triste. Thats right. It rained all day. The morning started off cloudy and cold even though the forecast printed on our daily hotel journal indicated otherwise. I guess these Italian meteorologists are worse then those in the USA. I just stayed in and relaxed. I've been having a hard time adjusting to the 5 hour difference so it felt nice to be able to sleep in and recoup a little. The great thing about being on the lower level is that the restaurant is only about 40 feet away. I had a hearty breakfast and studied some Italian. [View Full Entry]

Today was "Rome day." I went down to the Tabacci shop and bought a $9Euro ticket to Rome. Now I remembered Stef's advice and almost just tried to get away with not buying the ticket but then I also remembered my mom's advice not to take risks, so I went with mom's advice and just shelled out the money for the transportation. The cool thing is that $9Euros covered the entire trip! It handled the bus ride from Soriano nel Cimino to Orte then the train from Orte to Termini station Rome. It also covered the return trip and any public [View Full Entry]

What started as a cloudy, melancholy day turned out to be incredibly relaxing and beneficial. The jet lag hit me like a bag of bricks and I quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to function properly without a good nights rest. I've felt so anxious and nervous since I booked my flights that I haven't had a proper nights' sleep in 5 days or so. Well I made up for the loss last night by going to bed early (11pm) and waking up late (9am) and getting a good breakfast and walk around before getting a good 3 hour nap [View Full Entry]

First day went sorta like this: I arrived at Fulmicino Airport at aprox 11am (local time) having departed from Logan Airport in Boston and taking a 1.5hr lay-over in Dublin. There's a 5 hour difference from home and it didn't seem like it would be a big deal when I left but I'm slowly realizing how wrong I was. The flights were good. I ate a chicken-ish meal on the 1st connection and nothing at all on the second. The plane from Dublin to Rome was really small and everyone walked out on the tarmac to enter from the front and [View Full Entry]
