We (James, Colin and Matt) graduated from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce this May and decided we needed one last trip before completely selling out (both professionally and musically). We'll be doing some extensive diving, trekking, beaching, and guitaring/mandolining before this trip is over. Hopefully we'll be able to post some of the music online (field recorder permitting). Internet access may be shotty but we'll be posting as much as possible.

Here are the countries we'll be traveling in:

Thailand
The Philippines
Malaysia
Vietnam
Cambodia
Bali, Indonesia

So we've been neglecting the updates a little bit. We're in Bali right now so needless to say its hard finding motivation to sit infront of a computer and write about Cambodia and Vietnam. We've tried putting up pictures with this post a bunch now, we'll try again tomorrow. For now, just text. Anyway... We last left you all on our way to Da Lat which turns out to be a quite large city in the hills of Vietnam. There was an informal agreement between the north and south not to fight/bomb the city so it was in very good shape. [View Full Entry]

The boat ride over
We're in Ho Chi Minh right now waiting a few hours for our flight to the hill station Da Lat in south central Vietnam. We were essentially without internet the past few days in the Perhentian Islands (and didn't want to spend time in front of a computer anyway) so this might be a long entry... sorry. After our last post we jumped on a bus to the Perhentian Islands on the east coast of Malaysia. Kate, one of the Americans we had met the day before in the jungle was headed the same direction and joined up with us for [View Full Entry]

some cool hotels
Since our last post we've been in 4 different cities, slept in a hotel, an airport, a sleeper train, and a rain forest jetty. Meals have been sporadic at best and we've each taken to carrying a can of peanut butter around in case we miss a meal due to unplanned travel. We left Malapascua by boat after some sad goodbye's to new friends/staff/and locals who were convinced we were lying about when we'd leave (we'd changed our departure from Malapascua 5 times). After a miserable (especially for James) 5 hour ride into Cebu City we ended up at a hotel [View Full Entry]

We ate here far too much... the dutch snack balls were delicious though
The effects of traveling finally caught up with us and after our last post Colin got hit with a 24 hour bug that put him in bed for 36 straight hours (he's fully recovered now... and 24 hour bugs somehow last 36 hours here). We posponed diving for the day and James and Matt went into the middle of the island to find a game of basketball. We found a well maintained court a couple minutes outside the resort and after wandering around aimlessly in the village for a few minutes someone threw a basketball out of their house for us [View Full Entry]

Our hotel in Bangkok on Khao San Road
Sorry we've been slow to put up a new post... our guesthouse is a few steps off a white sand beach, the weather is about 80 degrees all day and the water is perfect, we haven't been able to get the motivation to find a computer until now. Here's whats been going on the past few days: In the hours following our last post we walked out of the main backpackers area to find a place to eat. We ran into an off duty cop who informed us it was a national holiday and that the king was in Bangkok. This [View Full Entry]

Tuk Tuk Ride
Bangkok Dangerous?
Standing Buddha

Well, after 24 hours of flying we're finally here (kind of). We got into Bangkok last night after a pretty uneventful flight (except for Matt turning $200 of airplane video poker into $1,000,000... took 7 straight hours, who says he has ADD now?). Got some pad thai on the main backpackers street in Bangkok (Khao San) which was full of people and bumping music until 3am. We're checking out a few museums today and then heading out to Manila and then Cebu City for diving tonight at midnight. Should be a nice 4 hour flight, followed by an hour flight, followed [View Full Entry]
