From what I remember studying, these feelings of amity towards the British empire are rather recent - starting from the first World War at the earliest. Before that, there was quite a lot of animosity towards them. Especially throughout the 19th century, when the US was busy expanding across the continent, while the British kept hovering about trying to nab bits for themselves.
enjoying Hi Yuval, only now I give comment to all your writing.
I enjoyed the way how you descrbed your travel very much . also the pictures of as well New Zealand and Australia were great .Hope to see you again one day in Amsterdam , many greetings and love from Turkey, Bodrum where we are now.
Most of them don't live in Alice Many of the "purposeless" Aboriginies you have seen there live in the desert, not in Alice. They come to Alice mainly to drink. They are not accepted in the white people hotels and hostels so they sleep in the dry river. They do nothing but drink for a few days and then they go back to their settelements where Alcohol is strictly forbidden (by their own leaders, not by the government). This is one of the known problems of Aboroginies in OZ. (BTW the first time I heard about this and other aboriginies issues and problems was on the Wayward bus trip, seems I had a better guide after all, luckily. He was very knowledgable and cared a lot. Even convinced us not to climb Uluru).
In Seattle there was another seafood stall in the market with dozens of people clamoring around to see that had me wondering what all the attraction was.
Then I saw they didn't move the fish around as much as they threw them about from side to side, which is what people came to see.
It's even more apparent when flying to Eilat, for instance - I've driven there. I know the way. I know how far it is.
But now I go to a building in Tel-Aviv and end up in Eilat 45 minutes later, so... WTF?
Also, you start out in the middle of the city, so you have no idea where you come in or out.
Australia can be scary for a moment I remember landing in Sydney, I also felt lost. I hated Australia in the first few days and missed NZ.
But you'll see OZ has its own charm... Enjoy!
The train spiral is really something Well my travelmate didn't want to stop at the watch point so I only saw it from far away and maybe just imagined... after reading about it in the LP.
And I think I also got the next fact from LP: National Park got its (stupid) name because Tongariro national park was the first national park in New Zealand.

James Keir Baxter (June 29, 1926October 22, 1972) was a New Zealand poet, and a controversial figure in New Zealand society.

KIWI: The shameful truth... Not only they call themselves after tiny grounded birds, but that bird is also the symbol of the armed foreces... Including their air force!
WOW, an upgrade is good... I also loved chopper flights... and yes the scenery is absolutely amazing. When you get to OZ, don't forget to take one over the great ocean road in Victoria (cheaper than NZ, don't worry)
sometimes on the beach is just that on the beach is a name of a novel about this part of the world (New Zealand, Australia what's the difference). I thought you were referring to it .
