Yes. "We're going to Saaaan Fraaaancisco"

So after returning from Vegas to Pasadena the plan was that we'd spend a nice finale day with Steve and the family before getting back onto the road to head up the Pacific Coast taste some wine in the Napa and then push on to Frisco. That nasty tennis bug we spoke of previously came back into our court and Thom took his turn to be very much out of action for a couple of days. To finish this e

The Grand Canyon Vegas Road Trip

So as you will probably have interpreted from the last entry this one slots in the middle of it. A blog sandwich if you will.So in our car we sped off in a slow upwards gradient all the way up to the Grand Canyon. The view on the way included lots of dessert like terrain and then as we got higher the road ploughed through flintstoneslike boulders and finally 'piney' forests filled with snow.

After landing safely in the US of A we spent ages sorting out our lush rental car a brand new PT Chysler Cruiser When we had finally gotten this done Laura tackled driving on the wrong side of the road operating an automatic car and all of this combined with jetlag. Well an hour or so of crazy highway driving and following GPS and seeing the wonders of big city life we arrived at my

I'm going to keep this entry short and sweet for you all as I am unable to put 2 weeks of smug grinning into words. This holiday was utterly amazingThe resort was lovely even though we had spiders enjoy the picsThe beach came with it's own wonderous reef attached which was home to rays nemo's and even a huge Leopard shark which we would snorkel out to say good morning to every day.The

With a week to spare before our flight to Fiji we got to Auckland full of excitement about parting ways with the Bartmobile and sleeping in a real bed for a change. Things didn't really go that well here's the storyWe had made an arrangement with the fella whose hostel we crashed at when we were originally in Auckland. As we left the city after buying the van he said to us that we could par

What else is there really to comment on about the famed Marlborough Wine region except the glorious wine they have hereWe were so bowled over by it's magnificence that we ended up staying for at least 2 hours in one of these fine wineries getting incredibly geeky on tasting a couple of prepay wine platters complete with a huge file that you are given to compare your palette findings with tho

We had a whale of a time in Kaikoura literallyAfter what was turning out to be a stormy day we were both dead pleased to find out that the outatsea conditions were in the 'perfect' classifications for optimum whale watching. We spent the rest of the day in the boat jetting from one spot to antoher as different sperm whales were coming to the surface for a big breath of air before diving back d

After the nature burst we told you about back at Mount Cook we soon found ourselves in the city of Christchurch. Instead of doing our usual activities of checking out museums and things we decided to simply take the city in by spending the day mooching around it. As the day went on we found ourselves saying how it was like being in a very warm Cambridge. There are lots of similarities they'

Mount Cook

We camped inside the Mount Cook National Park grounds before doing a day of hiking towards the famous Mountain itself in the Hooker Valley. As we are not trained mountaineers we were not allowed to pick our way up the side of the mountain itself but we did manage to complete a hike right through the national park across the glacier valley over swingbridges and then up to the foot of the mount

Otago Rail Trail

So after the Catlins we arrived in Dunedin. Being back in a city we did the usual timesucking city acivities of updating ourselves online for hours sorting out bank transfers and then we checked out the rather comprehensive museum to learn as much as possible about the local area. This pretty much took up all of the day so we decided to stay outside of town in a free rest stop but instead got

From Te anau catlins Our last entry left you back at Te Anau after our trip out to Milford Sound. It was in the Deep South that we saw a lot of different sights as we mosied along the beautiful coastline roads. As it was here I also started reading Gullivers Travels the explorer in me was more than ready to experience something fantastical and I am pleased to report I was not disappointed. W

As most of you will know we were both reHeally looking forward to going to Milford Sound. We were hoping to join the comparison sound clan and visit both Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound so that we could become official members of this pose who as I seem to understand it discuss their personal views on how each of the sounds compare when they meet fellow members. It's one of those thing

This entry will begin with a funny little story I have about English stodge cravings. After a Sunday morning lie in who am I kidding we sleep till we want to every day unless we have any appointments like a particular tour to be on we both decided the only thing that would make the day worth living would be a big ole bacon buttie. This may sound overly dramatic but I firmly believe we all n

We made haste towards Buller Gorge and happily presented our far

Sounding out to Nelson

The first thing we noticed about the South Island in between jawcracking yawning was the sandflies aka Blackflies they are not as bad as mossies but they are a close second. They bite and have no fear to swiping or insect repellent it seems you have to be unmerciful and just crush them as soon as possible. But a small price to pay in contrast to how gorgeous the South Island is. The ying

We solved both of these mini problems lets face it when you are out seeing the world these problems are certainly not major by checking ourselves into the De Bretts Resort.
We arrived to the Eastern side of the North island after enjoying a really lovely riverside drive which wound it's way in and out of farmlands and rural settings. When we got into Gisbourne we stayed at a beachside campsite which was full to the brim of last minute holidayers enjoying the last of the school summer holidays. After sorting out the usual restocking of food petrol and also splashing
