How does a tour bus of 6 girls sound? Well, you would think you would never hear a man complaining but we had our bus driver getting that way!! So I set out on another 3,5 day camping trip from Alice Springs upto Darwin together with Heli a Finnish girl I met in Adelaide and have been travelling together since, the pleasantly disturbed blonde Dutch girl Mer, the upmost entertaining young Laura from the UK, the crazy Ozie chick Cyndy and the outcast Lara from Canada. We visited many places including Wycliffe Well known for the most Alien sightings in Australia, Devils Marbles (which look like big balls..) are massive granite spheres, the popular refreshment stop of Daly Waters pub, Katherine Gorge and Mataranka Springs where we swam and canoed with fresh water crocs!!! And finally ... read more

After my 19 hour train journey from Adelaide I arrived in the small town of Alice Springs. Alice Springs once known as just a simple telegraph station set up to communicate with England is now Australia's key town providing tourists a taste of the outback. Having heard various stories, including the recent movies Wolf Creek and Hostel (have not seen either film and choose not to till I get home) I decided will not put me off from camping in the bush. Therefore, I booked on a 3,5 day camping trip visiting the sights of Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta and Uluru. I have never been camping before and was delightly suprised how fun it all was. I was prepared for the dramatic temperature change from day and night by having 2 sleeping bags and a swag ... read more

I caught my train the Indian Pacific, from Sydney with 2 mins to spare. All the passenger doors were locked so I had to board from the luggage section. I was so close to missing my train I had to run for my life! I could hear my heart beating in my head and was coughing like a... unfit person.. So the first leg of my journey started at 3pm on the 26th July from Sydney and ended in Adelaide at 3 pm the next day. It was a 24hour train journey with a 2 hour stop at a small town called Broken Hill which very much reminded me of the town Radiator Springs in the Disney 'Cars' movie. (if you've seen the movie you'll know what I'm talikng about if not then watch it :) ... read more

Today was my last day at American Express and the project I was working on will soon be launched. All instructions have been lodged so that managers can easily update the system in continuation of my ‘good work’ (in the words of my manager…) I was really taken back when I was given a cake, flowers and a goodbye card. I am very lucky to have met and worked with such lovely people :) I have now got a day of rest and packing and then I’m off to continue with my travels on Wed the 26th July. My overall plan over the next 3-4 months is do the Northern Territory, West Coast, and then be joined by my Uni friend Tony to do the Ocean Road and then East coast. I just have to point ... read more

Me and Jen were looking cool this weekend whizzing around in her new black convertible MGF! She is called the ‘Minx’ and is a nifty little mover. We just could not help but cruise the city top off pumping the music and then driving to the local beaches to do some sight seeing…Shame the car is only a two seater… ;) Jen firstly took me to Palm Beach which is where Home and Away, Summer Bay scenes are filmed. We saw no action but reenacted a few scenes ourselves! We also popped into Manly and Coo gee Beach, seriously these beaches will look so awesome in the summer!! And on Sunday we went to Bondi Beach where Jen had her charity event swimming competition. It was held in a 50 meter swimming pool located right next ... read more

Why didn’t anyone tell me how good weekends are??? It is the first time in my life that I have got a job that has not required me to work weekends and I love it!! Especially when you go out the Friday night making your weekend even longer.. Since I have been in Sydney I have definitely been catching up with lost time. Last weekend I went out to a karaoke night with Jen and her work Co’s, and what was a microphone in my hand at the beginning of the night ended up as a wine bottle! Also last Saturday was a good night meeting up with friends and making new ones. I also met a ‘prince charming’ who unfortunately turned into a pumpkin at the chime of midnight!!! (or whatever time it was we ... read more

What has been happening in the life of Turkishdelight in the past 2 weeks, well let's see.. my weekdays have consisted of the bog standard work routine with a trip to the cinema to see the animated Pixar movie "Cars" which was highly entertaining and recommended, and also a trip to the gym for a 'body jam' class with Jen which again was highly entertaining... from a spectators point of view that is!! However, the weekends have been the main hip shakers.. SO what did I do? The weekend before last was a busy one; It consisted of a night of Champagne, Wild Catz, Big Mac and Opera... To elaborate abit more, the champagne night as you will be correctly wondering is not the sort of backpacker thing and to your relief was not obtained by ... read more

As all bank holidays go it rained the whole time and there were renovation works on train lines! This did not stop the Angels from going on their adventures so we bused it for 3 hours to Port Stephens, Nelson Bay. After meeting up with Chris (the mad scientist guy whom Jenny and Jo had met on a previous holiday) we made our way to the local pub to watch the England vs. Paraguay football match, wearing England t-shirts, being the true supporters that we are… and goal!!! Well done England you did us proud!!! That night we were out this guy came over and put some money on the table infront of me. At first I thought he thought I was a waitress and then I thought he was putting the money down as a ... read more

A thing I have noticed about traveling is that you end up meeting some really nice people. It may be the case that you only know them for a day or maybe a few but you exchange details as if you are genuinely going to stay in contact. Half of the time you don't but then there is the other half chance you will... And one of these examples is when I exchanged my details with Jenny and Jo whom I met in Fiji... What happened is after spending my 4 nights at Nananu Island I had 2 nights booked and paid for on the Beachcomber party Island. I was abit reluctant to go as I was enjoying the company of the Famous Five but thought I had to try it out. And I'm so glad ... read more

Once arriving to Sydney again I had nothing booked only the name of the hostel to go by so I caught a bus and arrived at the Wake up hostel. I was put in a dorm of 7 blokes... am I complaining..!! Actually the one downsider was that there was snooring symphonies going on. Good job I'm becoming a heavy sleeper. When I first walked out of the hostel and looked around I didn't realise how many Chinese people there were in Sydney, then found out I was actually in the China town region... I have been out and about discovering the city and so far I love it. It kinda reminds me of NY but with an Istanbul resemblance to it. There are some amazing harbours and sights to see. I have already been on ... read more
