Mel’s BiG Adventure continues… over 2 years ago I set out on what was my first of many trips to discover the different parts of the world. After gaining many invaluable experiences, good or bad, I have come out stronger and realized that I still have so many more places to go and people to meet. SO after a few years of scrimping and saving I am back on the road and if you would allow me to be your eyes I can take you on the journey with me. This time I am embarking on a journey that will take [View Full Entry]

As far as White Christmases go I don't ever recall ever having one. Apparently the only white Christmas Kent has seen is in 1970 and as I wasn't even born then it doesn't really count. It just goes to show that Bing Crosby's “I'm dreaming of a White Christmas” song can be portrayed as either a far fetched memory or merely a dream!? If the dream can't come to us we then shall go to the dream :))) Me and mama booked on a coach trip to spend the festive season in Austria to experience Christmas with all the trimmings. Taking a gamble with the weather and a random Kiwi, I took some time out for what worked out to be a week full of beach hopping, partying and camping!! It all started when I picked Richie up from the airport and brought him back to the lovely Garden of England. We spent the next couple days checking out some of the local Kentish taverns, a trip out to the beach of Whistable and headed to Canterbury for the sights and also some Barbs and Ads loving... Getting off to a wet start we set out to the south westerly coast [View Full Entry]

As far as productive and enjoyable trips go I would definately rate this one in the top category. In the past 11 days not only did we manage to squeeze in essential chores but also some play time too. Once I returned from my Anzac tour I arranged to meet up with some of my old school friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in over 10 years!! Its amazing how time doesn't change anything except for a few extra wrinkles and a few additional pounds... I also saw some of my relatives, and went out for some delicious dinners (I [View Full Entry]

April 25, 2008, marks the 93rd anniversary of the Allied landing at Gallipoli, Turkey, in World War I, 1915, and the beginning of the Gallipolis Campaign. It also marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during WWI. More than 8,000 Australians and New Zealanders, under British command, died and 18,000 were wounded. ANZAC Day is held on April 25 each year. In both Australia and New Zealand, it is a sacred day. ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, which is what they formed for this war. Briefly, WWI in [View Full Entry]

Hey there dear friends and family. Yes, believe it or not I am off on a little travelling venture again!!! Its not quite like my previous backpacking experiences but never the less an experience I'm sure you all would like to hear about. As you would have all guessed from the blog title, I have gone back to my family routes, Turkey, for 2 weeks. I flew into Istanbul with my mum and have some leisure, pleasure and business to attend to. Eventhough I haven't been back to Turkey in 3 years coming back to Istanbul felt like second nature and [View Full Entry]

So after a total of 1118 miles of driving in 9 days I managed not only to stick to schedule but also to see all the places I wanted to. All my stops were very brief and I wish I had more time to have discovered more but I am still happy with what I did. I saw beautiful landscapes, drove lots of crazy windy roads, met lovely people, ate lots of Irish stews and drank way too much cider!!! I thought myself rather lucky with the weather and how I have had some good ones considering it was snowing back [View Full Entry]

Slightly delayed but never the less still keen to update you all on my last few days of my Ireland adventure.... Day 7- After spending a morning on the hostels computer writing my blog and loading my pics (I have to say that Ireland well and truly lacks internet cafes and if there is one its a posh cafe with a few computers with no USB access!!) I headed out on my journey to Donegal. Not much really going on there so after a bite to eat I headed off to the southwestern peninsula of Donegal. I drove through villages made [View Full Entry]

So heres how my next 3 days go... Day 4- Setting out at an early time of 8 am allowed me to miss all the weekend, Easter traffic. I made good time and managed to get to Tarbert for my 20 min ferry crossing to Killimer. It was nice little break which gave me a chance to have some breakfast. (normally I get too wrapped up in the journey so I forget about eating till my tummy cries out 'feed me!') I drove straight to Lahinch, a little surfing village and walked along the beach. It was a nice sunny day [View Full Entry]

I have got 10 days, 9 nights to travel as much of Ireland as I can. Dave has kindly let me borrow his car, an Opel Astra Electra called 'Carmen'. The plan is to try and see as many places, walk as many national parks, drink as many different local drinks, eat as many Irish stews and also include Northern Ireland!! That's a challenge and a half I hear you say... Bring it on!!! So the road trip begins; Day 1- I set out from Dublin following the detailed map Ro had drawn me to get out of the city (you [View Full Entry]
