it looks farely quiet but usually there are cars and bikes fighting their way down every inch of these narrow streets
Aaahhhhh.....home again. No, not the place I was born.....Im back in Asia =) It just feels so familiar being here, even though Im in Nepal, a country Ive never visited before! And it was quite an adventure getting here. It was cheaper to fly from Jordan than from Israel, but it turns out its quite inconvenient to get to Jordan! Israelis dont generally travel there so no one knew how to get to the border! Once I got my hands on a guide book that gave me the right info, I began the 5 hour journey that took me on a [View Full Entry]

All the Berke's and Epstein's meet up in Israel
Welcome back to my blog!! Its been a year and I'm happy to say my travels have started once again =) If everything goes as planned, this next adventure will take me through Israel, Nepal, Tibet and India! Actually that was the original plan and already I've added 2 more countries....so who really knows what lies ahead! This trip started quite differently from all the others. My parents dropped me off at the airport...like usual, I got on the plane myself...like usual, but unlike every other trip, they were there when I arrived in Israel! And being the most experienced travel [View Full Entry]

After a few close calls, I finally made it to New Zealand to meet up with Gary, where yes, it was approaching winter. It didn't seem like the smartest idea to be leaving tropical weather for close to 0 degree weather, but there are lots of benefits to traveling in low season...not so many obnoxious tourists around, lower prices and it was actually a welcome change to not be sweating out of parts of my body i didn't even know had sweat glands! and with a few layers on i stopped noticing it was fall. it actualy made for much nicer [View Full Entry]

Indonesia is amazing....by far my favourite place in all of Asia so far. its absolutely beautiful. there are amazing sunsets, gorgeous colours, both in the ocean and on land (i've never seen such turquoise water in my life) and the people are unbeatable. they are even friendlier than in thailand and just want to please you. one guy at a bar scratched a bug bite on my foot for me and told me, we are here to service you in any way you need. he told us it was ok to drink the mushroom shakes because he is there to take [View Full Entry]

what's up montrealers....i think its time for some more asian stories. heard the weather's getting better in montreal, so now you don't have to be too jealous that my stories are mostly set on the beach! somehow i find it pretty impossible to make plans here and actually follow through with them...so weve done nothing i said i would do last time i wrote. Kim and I spent another few weeks in thailand, we went to ko lanta, an island i've never been to before, so it was nice to check out something different. then we made our way to Ko [View Full Entry]

Yangon
the busy street, with dirty, old buildings in the background!
so much has happened in the last few weeks, I'm afraid of how long this blog is gonna turn out....I'll try to keep it brief! In mid Feb I headed to Mynamar with Gary......I'm assuming this alone requires some explanation...Gary was a teacher at that camp I worked at in Korea (the one all the kids thought I was dating). And for those of you who don't know, Myanmar is a small country just west of Thailand...used to be called Burma. It was in the news a couple months ago because some monks protested and got shot by the military. I [View Full Entry]

I'm back from camp, or prison as we often referred to it! We were stuck literally in the middle of nowhere. (by we I mean me and the other 2 teachers....it was just me and 2 guys) there was a tiny town about 10 minutes away with some korean restaurants and a pizza place. otherwise the closest city was over an hour away. On my one day off I went to the "big city" other than that I think I left the camp 3 times in the 3 weeks i was there. And by camp, I mean 2 buildings and a [View Full Entry]

I'm back! i hope these blogs are still interesting and you're not bored yet with my Asian travels!!! I promise next time to go to a different continent...sorry mom, just being honest!!! well first, i have to say, air canada is a great airline. expecially if you're sitting first class...which i wasn't! but the variety of movies and tv shows they had even for us cheap'os in coach was enough for 2 flights. i didn't wanna get off the plane, cuz i hadn't watched every episode of entourage yet!! k but before that happened, i noticed one thing....the vancouver airport is [View Full Entry]

So we finally made it to Thailand It's great, the only thing we're happy to leave behind are the bathrooms! Our hotels either have self-flush toilets (you pour water from a bucket into the toilet) or squat toilets, they never have toilet paper, but always have cold showers, and sometimes no sink! oh and for some reason the towels never actually dry off the water! i take so many things for granted! Before we went to the beaches we spent a few days in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand. I took a cooking class there.....not sure why, i don't actually cook. [View Full Entry]

Not quite ready to let go yet!
Not quite ready to let go yet!
Me, swinging from the trapeze
From Hanoi we had the choice of taking a 20 hour bus ride into Laos. First it would have taken us south (back towards where we came from) because that's the only border foreigners are allowed crossing, then we would have spent 2 hours at the border before it finally made it's way north to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The only benefit was the low cost of $16. It was a tough decision, but we opted for the 1 hour, $110 flight! We only read in our guide books after that Laos airlines aren't quite up to the safety standards [View Full Entry]
