Hi all, Greetings from Aruba ~ Trip started early morning with a news story about a airline crash on a Caribbean Island and a trip to the airport (thank you Annette). This followed with a very long flight from JFK to Aruba with a charming, hyperactive 3 year old whom decided to kick my chair for the entire 5 hour flight ~ JOY But I landed & checked in and I will let me photo's speak for me ~ Thus has started my detox from DC ~ I just wanted/needed to get far away and step out of my box once again ~ Years ago I inherited a cute little quote "The next best thing to being Rich is traveling as though you are!" and this trip is no exception ~ Calling this my Castaway meets ... read more

Hello all, Last summer prior to my Germany/Amsterdam excursion, my friend Chris and I talked of going to Paris! He needed to take a business trip and I have a need for foreign travel so - a marriage made in travel was born! Well that and a gift of Christmas Angels LOL. I took over 300 photos and have loaded what I think is a decent cross section of my trip! I believe that a picture does say a 1000 words so I won't blather on but will touch on the the highlights~ Our flight over was turbulent over the Atlantic - 1 from the air and another from a passenger 3 rows up. She was having an issue with something and I could hear her whaling over my headset~ 5 air hostesses and 45 minutes ... read more

Last day - My how times flies when you are having fun! It has been action packed vacation. My time here has been great, eye opening and I now know that I was born to be euro trash LOL - I had the best time, met the nicest people, had my first espresso and went to the mothership of H & M. Chaqa was a great hostess, showed me what I needed to get along on my own. Forever Grateful. Our day started out with showers and and a short walk to brunch. We a has a great all you can eat buffet for 9 Euro's. Then we continued on to Rudolph Platz for a cafe, waiting for the right time to meet up with my parade. Can you believe that 1000's of people came out, ... read more

We have all seen some type of performance here or there! A few of us have even seen a drag show or two in our day. I have seen several in the states and was not overly impressed. In DC they dress up - and work the room for dollars. Big whoop. When he suggested seeing the show I was like okay. Chaqa, however modest, does not like to talk about his career as a performer. He has quite the following, reputation and body of work. Funny thing when I first saw him dressed...I didn't recognize him. He was like, Terry, it's me! The show was entitled "Brazil Forever" and it was off the hook - singing, dancing, comedy (in German) and COSTUMES and COSTUMES and COSTUMES. Chaqa only had one number, a comedic number, with ... read more

Back in Cologne we resume are daily chore - get up, head out & walk the city until Chaqa has to head to work and then I venture around on my own~ I am an easy guest and tourist. Once I have my bearings I don't need to be lead around. At times I prefer to be on my own, get lost or into trouble. Yes, trouble - well I can always say I misunderstood I was lost in translation. Thursday day we hustled around town doing shopping - I had a few requests. Hopefully Vernon & Levar were pleased with their items. I am not a typically tourist - I prefer to do a day in the life opposed to hitting all the "attractions" well aside from the obvious ones! The Dome was amazing - ... read more

Monday, started with a restful sleep, 10 hours give or take and we were off to the train! The walk through town was nice - seeing the sights - Koln is a more post WW2 architecturally. Over 80% was destroyed in the war and was rebuilt fast to accommodate the homeless. The train ride was uneventful. 3 hours through the countryside - no high rises, traffic snarls, just lots of green land, country landscapes and EUROPE. I have to say that I took a lil nap just before we arrived, Jet lag is a killer. Fresh off the train it was exciting. Everything was obviously different, but more than that it was Amsterdam! I went on sensory overload - People walking, biking as if it was the norm and cars falling somewhere down on the food ... read more

Hi all, In Mayish of this year my friend Chaqa announced that he was moving back to Koln, Germany, to work as he did not acquire a work visa here. Although sad to see him go, we kept in touch via Facebook and email. Of course as I am want to do, I offered up that I would love to come visit prior to his departure to Singapore in July. He kindly said sure, come on over and the Madame Kwan Beauty School Drop-Out European Tour commenced! Once I decided to go everything fell into place! Great price on tickets on both air and ground transportation. Accommodations were at his apartment in Koln or his friends in Amsterdam so it was turning out to be a very inexpensive trip! So I thought it to be a ... read more

Hello all, Sorry for the delay in writing what has turned out to be my last blog. It is hard for me to believe that a year has passed since I left! Many have asked "why did you leave paradise?" So this entry is an attempt to explain why I left and what lead up to that decision! It has taken many attempts and this being my 20th to get it where now I think I can type what I want to say without it sounding … Let me start by saying that I had an amazing experience in Costa Rica. The people I met, the things I did would have never happened had I not emailed Andrew and asked him if I could come for a visit! Even though I had joked with a friend ... read more
