Left Cambodia.. on a boat!!! the boarder crossing muuuch easier!!! over pretty quick, arrived in chau doc at around 6pm so had no choice but to stay the night. Woke early to get a bus to Rach Gia, were we caught the fast boat to Phu Quoc Island.. stayed at Paris Beach resort which was RIGHT on the sandy beach!! we ate dinner at a table on the sand!! the staff were really attentive and sweet and the food was amazing!! Met more people to have a free drinks with- everywhere was very quiet! tourism is yet to hit Phu Quoc, there are building an international airport in 2012.. then it will all be over! Whoooooooooooohhhhhhh like motor bikes much?!!!!!!!!!! absolutely CRAZY city!!!! we walked around town.. oooh yes we did.. no pavements - as obviously they are for cars and bikes... hundreds of bikes everywhere, dont even ask us how we crossing the roads... hahaha we attempted to find food but mere impossible if you didnt want to eat something random from someone on the street. Next day- we went to the S21 museum- former school, turned into a prison by the Khmer Rough for people who opposed their regime.. appalling, its weird but you can sense what has happened there, the site has a horrible feeling. We saw the rooms which were set up for torture, then the bottom floors which held the prisoners in tiny cells. out of 20,000 prisoners, 7 survived. they had a detailed museum section ... read more

Next morning took a tuk tu to Angkor Wat where we brought the three consecutive day pass $40. We entered the main temple and it all seemed slightly surreal. The main temple Angkor Wat was very large and impressive. We decided to walk the day, we walked up the Angkor Thom area, my favourite there- Bayon temple = hundreds of faces on the walls they were not curved into one large stone but put together in blocs which made it fascinating and every face differed as the blocks shifted over time. Saw elephant temple then walked to ta phouem- stunning!!!! trees had grown over the top of the temple walls.. so breathtaking, the sun setting around us was really good... long long day!!! we walked the WHOLE thing in 40 degress and humid! craaazy!!! never sweated ... read more

05:50 train from Bangkok Central station headed to Aranyaprathe arriving at 12:20, nearly 6 and a half hours!! We paid 96 Banht for two people.. under 2 pounds.. The train ride out of Bangers gave us an interesting look into the lives of those living in the outer districts- shack houses with washing hanging out, water buckets outside, people preparing and cooking food on the ground outside. Lets just say the smells entering the train on the journey out were not helping my queasy stomach. Once out into the countryside we found out why the train took double the time of a taxi.. it stopped everywhere.. in places that didnt even look like a stop. people just jumped out onto the tracks. We were definitely in the minority as westerners on the train (we only saw ... read more

March 24th 2010

24th March flight from Christchurch to Sydney to Bangkok. .. really sad to leave NZ had an amazing trip :) but.. start of a new chapter. FLight went surprisingly quicker- probably because i did not want to get off.. i was dreading Bangkok... I did not know what to expect but my opinion was not good. Arrived at 1AM. Took the airport city transfer to the city the driver told me my hostel was down Kho San Road. I left the taxi- as no cars allowed down road, i walked down the MANIC street at 3.30 AM and couldnt find the hostel, 35 degrees, a heavy rucksack, busy, in asia, alone.. not good!!! eventually found some Brits who pointed me in the right direction and of who i actually met up with the next day for ... read more
