Need infomation - From: Back to the Blue Hole . . .
Hi Jeanette, My name is ALicia McCalla, I doing a TV program in Jamaica called Hidden Treasures. I was researching falls in Jamaica for the show and came upon your blog in Google search and found the Blue Hole very interesting. I realize that its virtually unknown to the average Jamaican, and that there aren't many avenues of research for this beautiful place. However i would like to know if you would be able to share more information on the Blue Hole or help me to make contact with someone who would be able to give me the information I need for my research. Your help will be truly appreciated. Looking forward to your response. Walk Good!

OMG Netter. I am soooo glad to hear that you made it ok. I guess this gets filled into the Crazy, Hilarious and Totally Random - Carnival Cruise Lines story vault. Again, no one who has worked for Carnival would believe any of this. "People who have never worked on a ship", THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS LIKE, in one experience. tee hee......hugs.

Miami to Freeport - From: How to Make a Disasterous Transfer into a Game . . .
What a crazy day & a half! I might be mixed up, but isn't there a ferry from Miami to Freeport??..........But I suppose you'd have to get that travel approved in order to be reimbursed. Seems as though the flight you "missed" to Miami was actually cancelled & the shady business of flight convinced all the 'stand bys' that they had actually missed their plane. If so, JERKS. Congrats on your Amazing Race Win!

Hey Brave Netters! There were 5 jerks in the car (who knows, perhaps they are victims of corrupt politics or moral erosion) but there were also 4 WONDERFUL people watching over you and protecting you...for absolutely no other reason than human kindness. That is the real beauty of travel and the reason you do it. You can't be saved from all difficulty. During my travels in Brazil, I had money stolen, I was hit by a car and had to ward off slimy men left right and centre...but those are not the memories that stick. I believe that our angels send the people who help us. And they work overtime when we step out of our "comfort zones." You keep truckin'! Apart from the jerks, it sounds like you had a lovely time. And you will have many more lovely times (for me to read and dream about at 2:00 am back home! :)

The confusion you feel is very normal, I think, and one that everyone who has travelled to S. Africa feels. I will be interested to see if you make peace with that feeling before you come home...That feeling still resonates with me. The frustration you felt in your last post (re: apathetic voters in Canada) is also very true. We are so spoiled, and many of us take it for granted. Lots of hugs! xo

Grand Turk - Paradise! - From: Shortest Port Day Yet . . .
Good Morning! I was lucky enough to live on the Island of Grand Turk for 4 years way back in 1998. It has to be the best time of my life. I could not believe that one could be perfectly happy day in day out on an island 1 mile by 7 miles. Looking at your photos it seems to have developed quite a lot, is it for the better? I have never managed to go back but would dearly love to one of these days. Happy times were spent in the Salt Raker Inn listening to Mitch and Dave and I loved the afternoons when I would go walking on the desolate beaches. Heaven! Anyway I have been back in Scotland for a few years now and long to go back! Best wishes and thanks for the memories in your photos... Anne Mearns Aberdeen Scotland

AMAZING - From: And It's Official . . .
I AM SOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU NETTER. I remember us talking about this sitting in the CTC, and then on the beach, and then on crew deck and then in the jungle and then and then.... I am so happy to see that you are striving for your lifes goals. I would have loved to be there to do this with you. I remember when we went Ziplining and the soul searching we had to do to sail over the canopy without wanting to loose control. I can't wait for you to come back when we can share all of these little stories. Hugs, Brooks.

Trying to live vicariously through you, as weather here is not nearly as nice as yours looks. “May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May Good Fortune hold you in the hollow of her hand.” Miss ya babe.

Dominica... - From: Dominica Sail Away . . .
Hey Netty.....interesting reading about Dominica. Kelsey's school raises money for less fortunate in Dominica and Elsalvador (which she has been part of). A group from the school leaves for Dominica on Feb 24th...there has been a last minute cancellation and Kels had a chance to go help do some missionary work there but unfortunately it conflicts with her trip to Greece. She was sooo disappointed. I will make sure she reads this blog!!! Lots of love...don't be sad...another adventures awaits you. xoxo

CONGRATULATIONS! - From: And It's Official . . .
I know how big a deal it is to get certified! Congrats! If you have time in any of the ports to do an adventure dive (these lead towards Advanced certification) I HIGHLY recommend it! The buoyancy proficiency (can't remember the proper name) is a great one for further developing those skills. I also did deep, navigation, night dive, drift dive, and fish identification. You'd love Fish ID, as you get an underwater clipboard and Fish ID card, and you get to write down all the types you see! Really helps for future reference and when writing down fun fish in your dive logbook. Also, you can check these via google images but I think the big silvery yellow ones may be yellow-tailed snappers. Black and yellow stripped may be sergeant majors. The rainbow ones are one of my favs. Stoplight parrot fish - male, as the female parrot fish are red and white. Not sure but those are my guesses. SO proud of ya Netter! Way to go!

Congratulations on your diving certification!!! You should be proud of yourself. I too am proud of your accomplishment. I know someone in this house that is just droooling over your diving/snorkelling excursions...the queen of water herself, kels. Any big plans for your b-day?? Have a great 27th birthday on Saturday. So proud of you Netter! - From: Continuing My Dive Training . . .
Removing the mask is the one that freaks everyone out. BUT YOU DID IT! The bubbles thing is weird. Oh how happy I am to be reading your blog and being reminded of when I did my training. So hard to describe to anyone who hasn't done it. I can promise you that clearing your mask is one skill that you will use at least once on every dive. It's a good one to master... not that your mask floods often, but to relieve pressure, etc. Scary thing but SO rewarding! Can't wait to have another dive friend!

Just look at the world around you... right here on the ocean floor! - From: Becoming a Scuba Gal . . .
It's one of the scariest things to start but can also end up being one of the most exhilarating. I've done 27 dives and still get nervous before each dive. That's the fun and excitement of it all. I've never seen an octopus. Yay you! Buoyancy is one of the trickiest skills to master. I can only suggest trying to use your breath the majority of the time, and not your BCD. You'll get it. So proud of ya Netter. See if you can spot a Christmas Tree Worm. They're my favourite. (you can google image search it to see what I'm talking about). They're cool. If you snap your finger beside them, they disappear into their holes...or something. Keep at it babe.

You ARE so lucky - and your stories are my escape at my lunch time. :) I know what you mean about jellyfish - i swam with them many times this past summer in the Black Sea and my boyfriend would pick them up all the time and I thought he was NUTS! He says the clear ones are safe - the ones with colours are poisonous, so be wary. Your trip to the Emerald Pool is beyond words. I think I would want my soul to live somewhere very similar to that place...and don't you look so cute in the waterfall!!! Love you, miss you, be well! :)

Hi, I just wanted to express a huge number of thanks for this blog of yours. I stumbled upon it whilst I was reading my friends blog from South America. I'm just about to start on The Caribbean Princess (2 weeks yike!) as a photographer and it has been really inspirational to read what life is like firsthand on a ship. Surrendering - From: Partying in Mexico . . .
Oh, Jeanette, it's an honour just to be mentioned! :) And here I am again, crying at your adventures. It's that word: surrender - a deliciously seductive word, and yet so...terrifying, as you said. A word I love, a word I long for, and yet my need to be "in control" often stands in the way. I think that is what makes me so proud of you - to let go of that control, and let go of your own limitations and beliefs about who you are. To challenge those who say "you can't do that" is so powerful to see. So empowering. I was absolutely terrified the first time I took a plane to Japan, panicked in the airport. But skydiving? There is nothing that can stop you now. You are the champion of yourself and I just LARVE you, my pal, just LARVE you! :) Keep breathing it all in....(and Oriah is an excellent companion!)

Yeah, they are ripe. I've always known that the sign of a good mango are them being the oragne/red colour. But then the last time in St. Lucia with the fruit man on the boat, he had green ones and I asked him if they're ripe and he said yes and it's true, they are. They don't grow very big in St. Lucia either. Maybe it's a bit like apples, that there are different types of them? Whatever, they're delightful!

Your mangoes are green! Are they ripe? We know ours are readu when all the green is gone and they are more of a red/orange/yellow colour. Maybe they are different in different countries. Ours should be falling off the trees in our backyards any day now ;P Glad you had fun on your port trip :)

That was exceptionally thoughtful. I've had trouble accessing your journals, and then finding time to read them, but I finally got caught up, and boy oh boy, you bring tears to my eyes! I am overwhelmingly excited to have found this blog!! I begin as Club02 Director for the Liberty on Wednesday March 14...soooo soon!!! I have been trying to find someone to talk to about the experiences so I know what to pack, what to expect, how to prepare!! My suitcases are overweight and I dont know what to take out. I want to bring stuff for my walls but I was told we can't stuck stuff up? I want to get a phonecard for my parents but I dont know which one? I hope to have internet but I wasnt sure if we had to pay for wireless? Your blogs have gotten me so excited, I've had goosebumps for the past hour and a half while reading through these. If you have any advice, pointers, suggestions, anythingggggggg before I leave early wednesday I would so appreciate it!! How much business casual should I have? How much crew party stuff? How much anything-casual? How are the afternoon uniforms? How cold are the ships - longsleeve versus short? So sorry to overwhelm you! Though it sounds like you have ample email time throughout the day if the cruise isnt packed. Many many thanks from one crazed-excited girl!!!!

I love the whole "tiny part of something huge" thing. I feel it every day. To think that I've spent so much time living in my own little World in Canada, while other cultures are co-existing and making their way perfectly fine without me in their own country.... sounds so naive I know but I have truly enjoyed seeing how others live their life compared to how I normally am living mine. People have told me that I will get home and everyone there will seem spoiled and inconsiderate... we'll see. Wouldn't it be awesome if EVERYONE wanted to be the one to make a small difference? Hello there Netty......I finally sat down today and caught up on your adventures. I'm in awe......the history lessons are wonderful. Interesting fact about your adventure with the Blue Morpho....the other day there were 4 beautiful, bright coloured Blue Jays in the yard playing and enjoying the treats provided. I grabbed the camera and thought I'd capture their beauty. The minute I started zooming in they hid behind branches and eventually flew away. Maybe it's true, their beauty was only to be a memory. We are again in the middle of a blizzard. Last Sat we had lake affect snow and today it has been blowing since 6:00 a.m. Byran says a few miles north of here there is nothing. All aboard now - From: Finally! I'm somewhere!
Hey Jeanette!!! I am living vicariously through you right now, and eager to hear all these interesting adventures, within and without. I know how you feel, believe it or not, about not always approaching new people so easily. There's always that fear of rejection, and the effort that goes into it all. Maybe you just need some solo time for now, until you're ready to take the plunge! Just remember there's lots of us thinking of you and frollicking in those sugary beaches with you (even from a distance!)

yeah, still not honduras. SO close to you though! it's a like a big tease! for my room i have a small room that i share with one other person. in the room we have a bunk bed, closet, cupboard with shelves and a small desk. there's also a small bathroom. the size of the room would be comparable to a bunk in Brant - the storage space being tighter and the floor space being slighter larger. Mehealia (my roomie) has been on the ship for about 7 months now. she only has 6 cruises to go and she's counting them down. she's not really enjoying her contract, mostly because she works so much and it's exhausted her. tara, the girl who i'm taking over from, her boyfriend is from honduras, so i'm always always always hearing about honduras. and missing you.

Newbie - From: Finally! I'm somewhere!
It's easy to feel like the newbie when you have so much experience in everything else that you've done lately. Camp and Keating; remember that both were new at one point too. Now look at you! I totally know the feeling. It'll fade. Give it time. So do you get your own room or share a double room with this roommate of yours. I dunno how these things work. How long has she been working on the ship? So pumped for you Netter. Travelling is wonderful.

Generally they are 8 night cruises, alternating between the Easten & SouthWestern Caribbean, but later in my contract we switch to 7 night cruises of the Western Caribbean. I have the odd 5 night cruise scattered here and there. My home port is Fort Lauderdale. I'm not sure where the Coronation is based. Thanks for commenting!

Awesome. Sounds like a great route. How many days is this route? Does it still use the same home port as the Coronation? Great stories thus far.

puchi had to be put down... only because we couldn't find anyone to take care of her while we were going to be gone... not even the vet. It's sad and totally not fair. In the end, I guess it's for the best.

A good thing - From: Three Days To Go . . .
extended distance will be a good thing Netter. The challenge is definately there but it's challenges that we overcome that make us stronger individuals. Once you're on the boat... then it'll feel real. Good luck babe. I'm off to Roatan tomorrow morning nice and early. Hopefully I'll find an internet cafe I can write from at least once. Talk to you soon!

The Way it's Meant to be - From: It's All Official Now . . .
I'm sure everything will eventually work itself out. It'll all happen the way it's meant to. Maybe you're meant to learn something from the smaller boat, or meet someone cool. Either way, YOU'RE TRAVELING! And not to mention, working on a cruise ship!!!!!!!!!!! I'm pumped for you. Nerves are normal.

Anticipation... - From: More Medical Drama . . .
I remember the feeling well. Things are so surreal. I don't think it really hit me that I was actually leaving until I was on the plane. Even saying goodbye to my family and Estelle, I was bawling my eyes out but couldn't believe that it would be almost a year before I saw Canada again. It's awesome Netter and I am so excited for you. The overwhelming feeling eventually goes away and leaves you feeling somewhat liberated.
