I am an instructional coach at Walnut Creek Elementary School in Austin, Texas. As a part of our reading book club with third grade students, we are reading a book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. This book is about a young boy named Stanley who is accidentally flattened when a bulletin board falls on him in his sleep. Stanley is able to have many adventures because he is flat such as sliding under doors, making himself a kite, catching thieves in an art museum, and mailing himself to California to visit his best friend.
We are mailing Flat Stanley to you to learn more about cities all over the world. Stabley stays with his “host family” for a short visit. He then returns to Walnut Creek to help us learn about the city he visited and the adventures he had. We learn about the exciting things he saw, the weather during his visit, and approximately how far he traveled so that we can calculate the number of his total number of miles. Of course, Flat Stanley loves to be in pictures, be dressed in clothes appropriate to the climate, and pick up post cards to show where he has been.
I hope that you enjoy reading about Flat Stanley's Adventures around the World!
Today Stanley went to Bull Creek, the 360 Bridge, and the outlook on 360 to take a picture in front of the Austin skyline. We are working on taking pictures at all the great places in Austin to send to our buddy 3rd grade class in New Mexico.

We took a picture with Stanley in front of our school with our principal (posted). We are working on taking pictures with Stanley at hot spots around Austin. Students will write letters to the 3rd grade class to tell them all the important things one needs to know about Austin, Texas.
... read moreToday Stanley got to play in the snow in AUSTIN, TX! He was so excited to see big flakes falling for most of the day. This is a very unusual thing to experience here in Central Texas. We ventured outside with one of our reading specialist at lunch and we couldn't believe our eyes! It was definately a Kodak moment. Unfortunately Stanley forgot his jacket at home, so we couldn't stay outside long. He enjoyed building a snowman and throwing snowballs after school at home. Now he wants to be mailed to Colorado so that he can go snowboarding! He better hurry, spring skiing is the best in my opinion. What a fun day!

The students were very excited to mail their envelopes in the school office! Now the waiting game begins! I will begin posting entries as soon as Stanley makes his return to Austin.
