Really happy to hear such pleasent words towards us, Belarusians=) ..Thanks a lot, we're very glad to recieve such open-minded and sociable guests as you are.
Good luck
You are always welcome in our country=)
Unfortunately... ...I didn't have enough time to meet the soldier again, but ended up meeting plenty of Belarussians in Lepel, where I then spent 3 weeks with a humanitarian aid organisation, building houses. And I have to say: I haven't met a single person in Belarus that fits the stereotypes.
Glad I'm so glad you are meeting REAL Belarusians, rather than the grumpy border/passport control types that most people talk about. I have been visiting Belarus for 15 years and I find them to be wonderfully open and generous. If you were to take up the military man on his offer you'd probably end up with a delicious meal, lots of vodka and possibly a banya (sauna) before the night was done. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip through my second home!
I'm a mathematics PhD student with an interest in bike touring. Just returned from my first tour - 2 weeks from Berlin to Lepel (Belarus), an amazing experience!

I have a 3 hour stopover in Iceland in a few days. Do you think there would be enough time to drop by the lagoon before take off?
