Miguel picked me up at the airport as he had been as kind as to offer me to stay with his family until I left for Cuba. It was so nice to walk into the arrival hall and see a friendly face waiting for me; it was so nice to see a friend I knew from before. We took a taxi back to his house, and I have to say I was overwhelmed by all the cars, people and the noise in this city. We got to his apartment in the late evening, and I got introduced to his mother, father [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Orlando late evening, and unfortunately my drive from the airport to the Inn, was not a pleasant one. On their way our of the airport I got a migraine attack that my medicine would not cure, so in the bus ride the pain and the throbbing kept escalating. I sat with my head between my legs trying hard not to throw up all over the bus and the lovely English people sitting in front of me. The tears kept streaming down my face, and thankfully the English lady took pity on me and walked me into the Inn, [View Full Entry]

This has to be the friendliest country I have even been to. People here are open, and curious about other people and cultures. The people are genuine, honest, kind, generous, funny, and charming. People here are passionate about every aspect of life it seems. I have never felt so welcome in my life anywhere before. People here are intelligent, and all seem to have higher degrees. People here find any excuse for a party or get together; they really enjoy their dance and music  This is the county of cars! Every family has 2-3 cars parked in their parkway. It [View Full Entry]

San juan From the air
The coastline
Puerto Rico in the far

My last days in the country I spent in the area of San Juan meeting up with friends, shopping, going to the movies, and just hanging out. I had a day outing to Las Cuevas de Camuy wich are caves and potholes. The photos are spectacular but after Brian and I made our way there the main caves were closed, so we basically saw a film, and went into one little pot holes clapping until our hands were sore in the hope that some bats would appear. And when you imagine that was the highlight of that tour, n\I think it [View Full Entry]

Once back at Doel lovely abode I got to wash all my clothes and pack my bag for camping at Culebra Island on Flamenco Beach. We headed of mid day on the Monday on an open air boat with the perfect view of the sunset and all the Cayos on the coast of Puerto Rico. Both Doel and I were too busy to take photos that we barely said a word too each other the whole way, but it was never an uncomfortable silence so it was fine. I guess that is how it is between good friends :) We arrived [View Full Entry]

I had arranged with Simon, Milton and Raiza from Mayaguez to go to the Island of Vieques for the weekend, for some fun and sun. I met them in San Juan and then we drove together to Fajardo where the ferry’s leave from. As we missed the car ferry we decided to get on the next passenger ferry and instead rent a car when we got to the Island. After a few hours wait we finally got onto the ferry and we all got comfy on the top deck where we could enjoy the fresh warm air, and hopefully some [View Full Entry]

Amy and I drove up to Doel’s house in the afternoon, and the person who greeted us was a bundle of smiles and charisma. He was super friendly and not the stereotype image I had of a Puerto Rican man. He told me that as it was Election Day we were heading of to a friend of his BBQ up in the mountains to follow the elections on TV. The though of not even knowing him and going to a party with all of his friends made me a little nervous, but I was happy to be invited, and to get [View Full Entry]

I arrived at Amy’s apartment, a gorgeous 2 bedroom situated inside a closed urbanisation. Her apartment is gorgeous and she had lit all these aromatic candles everywhere. Her Pets Oso and Carmela were my welcoming committee, and a good job they did, because I felt right at home. She showed me my room, and the bathroom, and I felt like I was in a 5 star hotel. It was definitely the nicest accommodation I had had since I started my travels. My room had a big double bed, and was spacious and light, with big windows, a desk, chairs and a [View Full Entry]

I thought I would spend one night in Rincon, as it is famous for its beaches…….. When I arrived it was already late afternoon and raining, so most of that day was spent on the computer updating my blog and such. It is not really a town, more a strip (a really long strip), as evening arrived the road filled up with cars and people with banners. At first I did not understand, but then I was told it was election time in a few days, and therefore everyone heads for the streets to show their support for their party. I [View Full Entry]

An Island of the coast...

After arriving and getting settled in the cheapest hotel there but still very expensive, I got in touch with Simon from Sweden who a common friend of ours told me lived in Mayaguez. Simon is a student there, and is living his life to the full here, enjoying every moment, and partying big time ;) He is just one of these people you can not like, he is so easy to talk to and so easy to have fun with, that you just feel like you have bumped into an old friend  Simon came and picked me up at the [View Full Entry]
