Tom Farthing - Tom Farthing

Tom Farthing Me and my sister have decided to get some travelling done before we enter the real world and are escaping on the 8th Jan 2009.

We start off in China then work our way to , Vietnam, Cambodia, Tailand, Australia, New Zealand, FiJi, American, and finally Canada.

Should all take about 11 months (roughly) and we'll be having a laugh all the way round.

Getting towards the end of this section of this tripo and as me and emily thought we are getting tired. Well tired isnt the right word, i think we are getting exhausted. Its just getting harder and harder to do anything after two months non stop. Okay rant over. Bangkok and the backpacker places in it are interesting and really remind me of Camden in London, but a whole city of camden. I thought i would like that but after a while it gets on your proverbial t*ts (pardon my french, or language whatever). I realised i like camden because its [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Siem Reap (which is the town nearest Angor wap) and had a walk around. The town is based aroudn the central square market in the middle and everything like pubs and shops are on the outside. After a bit of shopping we went to a bar called Angor WHAT? ( see what they did there changing wap to what- clever chaps). It seemed to be the backpackers hangout and we met lots of friends there over a bottle of whiskey each (it was the cheapest thing, honest!!!!) and a few beers. So much so we got a T [View Full Entry]

We got up early to beat the crowds to go to S21 which used to be a high school and was turned into a mass prison/torture chambers/death chambers. It seemed sick that a place like that would have so many crowds you need to leave early in order to see it, not that i was overly pushing to get in. The wierdest thing about it was that there was trees and it looked like a really nice place. Then when you got closer they had either pictures or detailed explanations or what happened here and there- confusing and messed up. Then [View Full Entry]

Arrived at the hotel and was glad to find out it was 3 minutes walk from the beach and on that 3 minute walk you passed through the bar area with happy hours. The happy hours included beers for 25 cents (10p), between 12-7 in the day if you paid 8 american dollars you could drink as much beer as you wanted, and buckets of cocktails for 3 quid. It looked like a place where you had to get drunk- its the law. One down side of the backpacker orientated place was the rubbish and well- the backpackers HA HA. When [View Full Entry]

Arrived in the Capital of Cambodia called Phong Phen which is okay but empty. Its wierd its about as busy if not less than reading and ITS THE CAPITAL OF A COUNTRY. The reason for this is that 25-30 years ago thier idiot leader Pol pot got paranoid and decided to kill a third of the country, then due to starvation more people died and half the population is under 18. And most of those kids are on the streets with no parents staving. So a bit strange to say the least. For this first visit to the captial we were [View Full Entry]

When we arrived me toni, Barry, Lourda and Joe were given a room to get a nap in. As we arrived at 3 Am or something stupid, we pushed two doubles together to fit us all in and got a rather uncomfortable sleep. We were better off than a few other people who had to squeeze 6 people in one double. After a few hours nap everyone but me toni and karen went on a bike tour, now this is not a normal bike tour. This envolves a bike but above the front wheel they have a seat/basket thing, and you [View Full Entry]

Had a quick walk around the town and it didnt seem anythign special, a few temples to go see ( seriously by this time a temple with jesus preachign at wouldnt be that tempting, i have just been to so many-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) and a few nice bars. Ended up wathching a few movies in a bar with a big screen then back to the hotel as we were all really tired and it was getting late. On the way back to the hotel however i saw one of the wierdest sights. A groupd of 5 lorries had big speakers blaring techno music [View Full Entry]

Arrived in Hoi an (the place in top gear where they get suits made) around 3 and went for a massive walk with our guide. Turned out the map we had did not understand scale so it turned out we were about 40 min walk (in blazing heat) from anything, GRR. Me and joe decided at 6 to go and look for suits, this was a bit late to be doing it but if we didnt start straight away we wouldnt have enough time. So the pair of us turned into two blue arsed flies and ran around like nutters trying [View Full Entry]

So after getting into Hue from Hanoi we had a look around the city and the Citadel, The citadel was like the forbidden city in Beijing but smaller and with gardens built into it. Then just had a bit of a wander round but not much to do. That evening we found a restaurant that did 8 courses all of traditional food for a fiver with beer- Went for that like a bullet. Then couldnt move afterwards- felt like christmas day when you eat to much. In the morning we had a motorbike tour for the day where you hope on [View Full Entry]

Took a Long ass bus from Hanoi to the Docks and got on a beatifulo Junk type boat. We could already see it was going to be a good day. We had lunch with the boat anchored down between loads of lime stone island, just a perfect view with a perfect meal. Then had a trip inside one of the island that had a limestone cave that seemed to span the whole inside (no idea how it stayed up). The boat then took us to one of the islands where our hotel was, only problem with it was that the few [View Full Entry]
