The night before I left for Patagonia my computer gave me an ugly error message and shut itself down. I then electrocuted myself a little on the crazy outlet because I had lotion on my hands but I decided there was nothing I could do about my computer as I was leaving in the morning and I would just have to deal with it when I got back. SO. Coming back from vacation (even if you are coming back to another vacation) is always a little upsetting but in addition to having to come back to class I had to [View Full Entry]

I enjoyed spending that next weekend in Buenos Aires and even watched the Red Socks game at an American bar near my house. It was my first baseball game and I still didn’t really watch it. Oh well, but go Rockies for making it as far as they did!! Not too much else super exciting happened except I had a fantastic, relaxing Sunday after going to church and eating dinner out with a friend. Buenos Aires has warmed up quite a bit and the humidity is coming on too, which also means lots of mosquitoes…but beautiful flowers and trees too [View Full Entry]

Bariloche is known for its delicious chocolate, especially at a little place called Mamuschka´s. We headed off after dinner to get a taste of her famous chocolate and enjoyed hot chocolate which was literally a melted down chocolate bar, and chocolate truffle cake between the three of us. It was fantastic…but so filling that we pledged we’d never return. The next day we headed off for a beautiful, two hour horse riding tour up into the mountains which was fun for me because my horse had quite the ego and loved to gallop - a little scary when going down [View Full Entry]

Once we arrived in Calafate we were again impressed by the grace of the airport which only used one terminal and I think my bag was the first one out which has never happened to me. We took the bus to our hostel, America del Sur which was a great place to stay. The moment we walked in they kissed us on the cheek and asked our names…and actually remembered them for our entire stay. We had a wonderful, breathtaking view of the mountains and a glacier-fed lake from the common area which was perfect to relax in after a long [View Full Entry]

Patagonia was the trip of my life! My two friends Katie and Carrie and I left for Puerto Madryn super early on Saturday the 29th and started having a great time as soon as we discovered how wonderful Aerolinas Argentinas is. We were welcomed with a great coffee and medialuna breakfast with jam which was far better than any US airline food. As soon as we landed we were in awe of the beautiful landscape that went on forever. Having been in Buenos Aires for two months we weren’t used to seeing the horizon! Our hostel, El Gualicho, was great. Once [View Full Entry]

Milonga y Tigre

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Tigre
Hola! This past weekend I enjoyed three wonderful days of beautiful weather in Buenos Aires and Tigre. To start, Friday was Students Day, a national holiday, so my friends and I hit the bars on Thursday night to start celebrating (I had one of, if not the most fun nights I’ve had in BsAs). I made an Argentine friend named Carolina who was really fun to talk to in Spanish. Hopefully we’ll be able to meet up again sometime after Spring Break. Anyway, the bar we went to was free for ladies which was fabulous, although in addition to meeting Carolina [View Full Entry]

Hola familia y amigos! Sorry its been so long since my last post but I’ll try to catch you up on life here in BsAs. A few weeks ago I again ventured by bus to La Boca…I really just can’t seem to get enough of that place. However, when we arrived my friends and I encountered ten times more tourists than we have in the past, which was overwhelming. I don’t know what changed but all the sudden tons of tourists arrived in Buenos Aires. Day to day I don’t really notice the tourists but they are definitely present in some [View Full Entry]

This weekend I went to the play Cabaret which was amazing. I really didn’t know what to expect but what I saw was far from what I’ve ever seen in a play. For any of you who have seen the movie or play, you know what I mean! The singing and acting was incredible. I was so impressed with the performance. I was also excited that I understood the story line even though it was in Spanish. The theatre was also beautiful but it was hard to take pictures because of the lighting…you can check some of them out though. [View Full Entry]

So today was funny. My Spanish class got canceled so I had the whole day to myself. I woke up at 9 and thought, oh no, is what I’m feeling immediately when I’m waking up homesickness? No, this can’t be, don’t think about it, don’t think about it! So I decided to pamper myself with a slow, relaxing breakfast in my PJs with delicious coffee made by Malbina our maid. I got myself dressed and decided to start my Spanish paper. I had to change into a tank top and running shorts because the heat was on so high that I [View Full Entry]

Cordoba

South America » Argentina » Córdoba
¡Hola amigos! I hope everything is going great at home! This past weekend I went to the province of Córdoba, which is located in the Central Sierras of Argentina (about a 9.5 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires). The bus stations are really interesting because your ticket doesn’t specifically tell you which terminal your bus will be leaving from, it gives you a range of ten terminals so you have to find your bus before it leaves. It gets really confusing if your bus is late. The travel buses are nicer to travel on than planes and are the most economical [View Full Entry]
