Cambodia is in need of healing Tim thank you for writing this blog and sharing this work with us. Sounds like you and other people are making a difference in this one spot in the world. I will write to find out how to make a contribution. I would like to push back on the description of yourself as someone who just shows up. Your Heroic Imagination Project proves you do far more than that. How outstanding. I do hope your students are successful in becoming involved. Congratulations.
Really appreciate your support I'll respond to your email but wanted to say that this thing has been building into something really substantial. I'm going to have to cut the number of students off at 300 because I don't think the community can absorb that many people just showing up and I probably won't have enough money to provide Tshirts and bikes for more than that. Our University President, former Minister of Education, is going to attend and present a University award to Agape. It's blowing me away.
Sexist language Where have all the female words gone? Actress? Heroine, hostess...? etc
Are they being removed from the language, by those who think feminine is bad?
Appreciate your support, I think. You know, I agree with you that words create worlds and what you call things is important. But I'll let you decide what labels you want to give it while I try to stop 5 year old girls from being sold like a piece of meat to a lunatic pedophile. We all have our work to do and it seems you've found yours. I'm not sure what if anything you are objecting to? Should I not have called Mina Sorvino an actress? Should I rename my project the Heroic and Heroinic Imagination Project?
What a Blessing! Wow... count Jim & I in! Thanks for moving us into action. Praise God for you and those who are making a difference in the lives of Gods people...ALL are God's people in ALL the world. This month at FBCMI we celebrate February as the month of Missions (we are on Mission All year but this month is set a side for recognition and awareness) What a great blessing for us to come along side of you and Agape International! Give us the details on where & how to get you the funds.
Bless you for your work with the students...they are the future leaders of their country, together things can and will change for the good of their country, and may they find Jesus in and on the journey...thanks for showing them Jesus! I love you brother.

Thank you for sharing this opportunity for TBers to make a difference... I will be emailing you for information on how I can contribute. I have friends working in Cambodia in similar organizations, but having you create this link between your university students, the future leaders of Cambodia, and their most oppressed will have a great impact on the future of the country.
Last Semester While a last semester in Cambodia is bitter sweet, returning to the states to be with your ALF family will be priceless. Can't wait to have you back! :-) Celene
great update Hi Tim, I just stumbled across your blog, and having left PP just over a week ago, it's great to read your update on the current situation. I love Cambodia and it's people (I volunteer there whenever I can), and the current political rest is disturbing. CPP are, in my opinion (!!), incredibly corrupt, and I can only hope that Sam and the CNRP can bring about change in time to come, that will benefit all people.
I am going to follow your future posts ...thanks for this one.

SHINING LIGHT IN DARK CORNERS Thank you for your thought provoking, enlightening blog. A country emitting such gentleness and peace when I visited recently has a dark desperate underbelly. these matters need light cast on them. Please appraise of developments.
Turmoil Times of change can be difficult for a country and Cambodia has had more than its fair share of tragic events. Please take care and stay safe. Loved these stories. Thank you for sharing.
I heard that the Koreans controlled the concessions... perhaps it's only the resorts. In any case, like you, I'm skeptical that the Cambodians benefit.
Thanks for your commentary on democracy in Cambodia... and as for Hun Sen owning everything, someone ought to investigate the deal he mad with Koreans to "manage" the entire tourism market in Siem Reap. Hun Sen must be making millions on that deal.
Korean Interest in Siem Reap? The temple entrance fees are managed by Sokimex. The founder of Sokimex, Sok Kong, is Vietnamese. Supposedly 1/3 of profits are supposed to revert to the Apsara Authority but there's a good chance most of that is skimmed. It's a shame this money isn't kept in Cambodia to improve the lives of Cambodians.
I Love You Teacher :) My dearest Tim,
You are such a gifted writer. I felt like I was right there with you as I read your blog this morning. You are in the polarity of staying and going. Maybe there is a way that you can do both but the "how" hasn't come to you yet. Either way, as in all things, you're on the path.....
Love you,
Nory
I wouldn't presume to give you advice... indeed my response reflects the culture of Thailand where I grew up and where my son shared his recent adventure as a teacher of English. Thailand hasn't been through the horrors that Cambodia has...and your beaten dog analogy is great although in Thailand, and perhaps Cambodia, a dog is the lowest form of life...to be compared to a dog is the greatest insult. But it is an appropriate analogy anyway. The problem of teaching in Thailand is that the two words that encapsulate Thai attitudes best are "sanuk" which means fun and "mai ben rai" which means it doesn't matter. So students for the most part want to have fun and nothing matters. They expect, as a part of the concept of saving face to get good grades without putting in any effort. My son had to draw the line somewhere so gave F's to students who never showed up for class. The school expected him to pass everyone else, and even had concerns about the F's. So, as long as your students learn from you, that is a great achievement at least in terms of the Thai culture. You will have to translate that to your situation. Anyway, I look forward to hearing of your decision.
Thank you Very insightful response. Thanks for following me. Just when I think I have an answer, I don't. I truly love this country for all its warts and blemishes and I am forever changed.

Hello there I am 17 years old & I am trying to get to London & eventually travel the world after that. London will be my first stop. But I need some help getting there and since all you are a traveler I thought you would be willing to help me out or at least know someone who is willing. I am a little behind on funding.. or a lot behind so I set up a funding page at www.gofundme.com/marratolondon . Please don't flag or remove my post. Everyone has wanted to go somewhere really bad before and this trip is not just a vacation to me its the start of my life. I don't know where else to post. Please don't be mean. Thank you . God bless.
What a touching blog. I'm sorry for your loss, but thought it was amazing how you celebrated Zeke's life and generosity with Thet. Thank you for sharing.
Hey everyone!
Today makes the three month mark that I packed up my life and moved to Southeast Asia. I'm currently residing in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and working throughout the region on different consulting projects. I'm based at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia where I'm in the process of creating a Leadership Institute and two new degree programs. Every day is a new adventure. I blog in fits and starts, when I feel I have something to say. Thanks for reading and if you are ever in the area, stop by!... full info
