Saturday For our first day in Foz we had decided to visit the Argentinian side of the falls. We had heard that the easiest way to do this was on a tour (as they take care of all the border formailities) and being the lazy travelers that we are, we took this option. The Argentinian side of the falls, has more walking paths and more look outs and a closer look at the falls (they actually have about 2kms of falls to Brazils 1km). Now theres not really a lot to say here but wow!!! Lots and lots of water falling [View Full Entry]

How often do you end up in the wrong country?? This is the question that we were asking ourselves as we sat on the foopath in some kind of industrial estate in Cuidad del Este in Paraguay.... We weren´t meant to be here, we didn´t want to be here, we were supposed to be in Brasil...... Now before you all started painiking we actually weren´t that far away from Brasil, probably no more than a kilometre or two... but this was certainly something we hadn´t expected!! The bus trip from Bonito to Foz do Iguacu had been long, delayed but pretty [View Full Entry]

So when we last left you we were about to make our way from La Paz Bolivia to Bonito Brazil.... we had taken the smart option (or wussed out depending on your point of view) and decided to fly to the border and cut out about 48hrs of bus travel. Monday started early with a 5:30 pick up at our hotel the girl from the travel agent who booked our flights escorted us to the airport - we´re not quite sure why but we´ve given up trying to work out why over here, it´s easier just to accept. The flight to [View Full Entry]

Well we´re back in La Paz for a couple of days (since thursday - we leave tomorrow if everthing works with our flight) So with a couple of days to fill we decided to do what every other tourist in La Paz does and that is mountain bike down the most dangersous road in the world. This is the old main road to Coroico. Gravel, no guard rails and 400m vertical cliffs make up this trip. We were a bit nervous as Tiare couldn´t remember when she last rode a bike and Nick realised that for him it had been over [View Full Entry]

So after a couple of days in La Paz we were off to Uyuni for a 3 day tour of the Salt Flats..... The trip down was an overnight bus (the bus was very good - but the road was very rough, so sleep was reasonably hard to come by). We arrived in Uyuni at about 7:30am and after having breakfast were ready to depart on our tour at 10:30. The tour group was six tourists, a driver and a cook all piled into a landcruiser wagon. Cosy but our 4wd drive was reasonably modern (when compared to others - 1994) [View Full Entry]

So the bus ride from Cuzco was a little bit different to the supprisingly high standard of transport to which we have become acustomed - we suppose that it wasn´t too bad really but it was just that the windows wouldn´t close all the way so we neally froze to death on our ride through the night. After a problem free border crosssing into Bolivia (people had warned us about 'fines' and confiscating 'fake' money) we arrived in Copacabana on the shores of Lake Titicaca. It is only a small town on a hill overlooking the lake but is set up [View Full Entry]

We survived the Inca Trail! WOW WOW WOW! What an amazing experience it was tough going for Tiare not so for Nick but totally worth it. Tiare just needed to get that off her chest straight away! But hello again to all of you. What a week it has been! After leaving Quito we arrived in Lima Peru at about midnight. once again it was lovely to have a pre arranged transfer waiting to take us to the hotel. And the hotel was very fancy.... it even had a lift!!!! We spent Sunday in Lima in miraflores (where our hotel was). [View Full Entry]

Inca Trail

Just quick note to everyone, confirming that as planned our time in Ecuador has come to an end. We have a late flight tonight from Quito to Lima in Peru. Where we shall start the next and probably hardest leg of our journey - hiking the inca trail. On reflection we have seen some pretty great things in Ecuador - the Galapagos were fantastic, the jungle, volcanoes, snow. We have also suffered a bit, sea sickness, flu, malaria tablet sickness and in the end we finally manage to score a double bed (marital bed apparently) So good-bye Ecuador and Thanks. We're [View Full Entry]

Today we return from Baños to Quito. The end of our week long tour. On the way we stop to visit the Cotopaxi volcano (not the erupting one - don't worry mums). This is going to be an altitude test (nick has been taking diamox to see if it weel help with the altitude - for the inca trail). This mountain is actually higher than anything we will do on the inca trail. The carpark is at 4500m and the plan was to walk up to the snow line at 4800m. When we arrived at the park, there was no mountain. [View Full Entry]

TUESDAY 4 MARCH 08 So today we leave our lovely jungle hideaway and start heading back up the hills. Tiare is going to miss the warmer weather!! After breakfast we all piled back into the old canoe and headed back to our bus. Today is going to be another day of mainly bus travel. Some on paved roads some definitely not paved roads. Close to Baños we stopped to look at a pretty spectacular waterfall and some of the group shot a cross the canyon (400m?) in a fairly basic looking cable car set up (we skipped that bit). And thats [View Full Entry]
