Banking did it's thing. Big cities get too small.
87 days of mostly my own company, this is going to be either a disaster or totally fabulous, or for some fabulicious!
I will not miss car guards, Juju, weak men and plastic! (plastic does not include the already bent double Visa sign, where without I can't go nowhere). I will miss The B's, Jasper, freakshow, lil bro and a bunch of incredible wine drinking friends.

Bolivia: The’ Other’ bit! La Paz is a shithole, I hate it! The highest airport in the world (4058m), the longest runway in the world (due to the obvious) blah blah. Originally we decided we’ll stick together until after Christmas, but Christ and Gertrude (Gareth) decided to head to Peru earlier, because well, no one wanted to be stuck in La Paz over this time. I also don’t blame them for this in the least bit. “The Wild Rover” is this Irish owned hostel, where all you can do is party, literally, that’s all you do. Your nights and days are all merged into one big mess. Every morning there is vomit in the bathroom somewhere, the bar opens the same time as breakfast starts and closes when the coke bar opens. I was also by ... read more

Bolivia- The good part Following Peru it was crossing into the infamous Bolivia. The poorest country in South America and they have been at war at some point in time with all their neighbours. Chile ‘stole’ a part of the coast line from them and during the 1930, they were at war with Paraguay, who took a piece of land that was believed to have oil, to date none has been found. Wars make so much sense…. Crossing from Peru you hardly pick up any differences in appearances between the local people. Lake Tsitikata, where the original two Inca’s are believed to have originated from is the highest altitude lake in the world. The border between Peru and Bolivia runs through the lake, the floating islands are on Peru’s side ... read more

Cuzco - By far the most touristy place I have been and by far one of the most interesting, mystical and beautiful places on the planet. It has it all; history, mystery, cathedrals, pride and blatant beauty. You can’t get away from the tourists and every Tom, Dick and Suzanne trying to sell you a pedicure, massage (pronounced; maasaage) and a trek and every person you meet complains about that, I just smile, because honey, if you went there, you’re part of the ‘problem’. The city itself is absolutely gorgeous! You can’t help but just love it and you understand why some backpackers end up staying here for months, although I am sure the famous pub crawl that happens every night around the square might have something to do with it. After a day or two ... read more

From Punto Hermosa (surfing) I headed down South to Paracas, where you find Isla Ballistas (the poor man’s Galypolys), it is a tiny tiny town, with not much more than a row of hostels and a full two minimarkets. Being an absolute cheapskate, I influenced Taylor, a Canadian girl I met in Paracas, to not take a tour for R90 for the day to the National Park, no we’d rather walk the 11km’s to the first lookout. 11km, a breeze right? Here’s the truth, it’s desert, it’s probably 35 degrees, there is nothing, nothing, but sand. We started out fine, after roughly 20minutes, we realized this was a bad idea, there is zero scenery. We decided hitch-hiking through the Peruvian desert is a way better idea! First we were picked up by this Italian guy with ... read more

Not so tough and King Carlos

"Not so tough now” So after the “feeling sorry for I stint” passed, I made it to the extremely gorgeous, exceptionally irritating city of Arequipa. The second largest city in Peru and it has something of everything. From legend, to myth, to archaeological history to beautiful buildings, to about 5million hooting taxi’s Yeh, you guessed it, the altitude floored me! Waking up on Tuesday night from a screaming headache, buzzing in my ears and heartbeat of 180 from walking 5metres to the bathroom, I had no clue what the heck was going on. Arequipa is 2,800m above sea level, but because I’m so ignorant, I don... read more

Through the Atacama Desert where the Nothing grows higher than the double decker bus! And as always, I was blessed with the curse of the snorer!! I honestly believe I did something wrong in my previous life to always end up with the snoring ones! Since high school days of sharing a room with someone, including some really gorgeous girls, they all seem to snore! I attract them, boarding school, tubes, ski trips, hostel rooms, planes, spot me; spot the snorer next door! I was very well behaved and only did the “beeeeg, pretending to be asleep, huge arm/elbow roll over” once and the snorer next to me on the seat woke up, luckily he got off at the next stop next in the middle of the double decker nothingness! The 28 hour bus ride from ... read more

God's Office

The locals here have a saying “God is everywhere, but his office is in Santiago”. I’m still mulling over this, as I’m preparing to leave God’s office and to me there is only one word for Santiago and that’s “Subtle” and that I like subtle people, subtle things, subtle lives. It means something is not screaming out at you, but giving you time to decide for yourself, making up your mind as you go. I am falling for this subtle place in a subtle way. Everything about the city is subtle and, I think, to a large degree underrated. In a couple of years the tourism industry from here will probably be booming, whereas at the moment, it’s just a day stop over either on your way to the desert or down South. There is a ... read more

It took me only about driving up 5 one-ways and Charle going “Chicka jy moet aan die ander kant ry!” to learn that, here, they drive on the wrong side of the road and the steering wheel is also on the wrong side of the car! We pretty much reversed all the way to Pucon, but we made it there and we both immediately liked the place, but we didn’t go there for the scenery, no, we had a goal! And that was to summit volcano Villaricca! Being as lazy as I am, I figured, nah, rock spider shoes, water and a waterproof jacket, we’ll be sweet! Hah! That’ll teach me to do better research. The summit is only 2,847m, the temperature on that volcano is between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius and no, water is ... read more

The In-betweener! It has been days since I’ve gotten round to (attempt to) write something! So small bites First: I met up with Charle in Buenos Aires (meaning- Good Air), what a city! But since you’ll probably go there one day and you’ve read all about it, I’ll only say two things; 1. Do not call it “The Paris of South America”. Why do people do that? You offend the locals and you take away the uniqueness of something very unique. 2. The next time you go to BA, make sure you are there on a Monday night! And whatever you do, DO NOT miss “La Bamba El Tempo”. There is no way I can describe the insanity to you, but you have been warned! Don’t miss it! Change your flight if you have to. After ... read more

Cosmic Chiloe

Cosmic Chiloe!!! Today I fell a little bit in love….with a secluded, untouched piece of Chiloe . I also learnt that passion is universal, you don’t have to be able to understand the language if someone has it you’ll see it. More than 40 minor islands, the main island can only be reached by ferry from The Lake District. The whole Chiloe area is 180km long, but only 50km wide. Agriculture and fishing is the main activities here and people live simply, yet, very extravagantly off selfish and salmon. The island is a Unesco World Heritage Site. After the drama (more Charle’s) than mine, which I’ll cover soon. I decided to still leave the dreary, dirty Peurto Montt behind, as per our plan and caught a bus to Ancud. The town is built against the ocean, ... read more
